Top 101 Movies of the 90s. We are done. If I knock out Amadeus/Brazil/Ran, We get to have an 80s countdown!! (1 Viewer)

I did my top 100 movies of the 00s (well, sort of) and the top 50 of the first half of the 10s.    I've been wanting to do the 1990s, but kept hitting a wall as I thought about it.   I think a bit of the hesitation was my take on some pretty popular 90s movies doesn't line up much with the masses.   But, in the end I just figured WGAF?   It's just a fun exercise to attempt to generate more good movie discussions and take a trip down memory lane as I rewatch too many 90s movies.

All that said, I did bring along a partner for the ride.   @Ilov80s was willing to stick his neck out there as well.   We will each do our 100 lists, then we will combine them for top 100 countdown that I will start on my day off Wednesday.

If you guys mess this up I might have to do a next 100 or whatever
KP has been doing a ton of research for this. I need to catch up a little, I have a few big 90s films that I haven’t seen yet.

There’s definitely a lot of good films from  the 90s, there’s also a lot of movies I enjoy that I’m sure won’t end up on a traditional top 100 list

This is where I am at.   There is a bit of expected chalk on my top 100, but some odd movies and personal faves that are ranked highly.

What I found doing this was that I had a pretty solid 50 or so movies I initially wrote down as slam-dunks, then I had at least 150 more that were in the running.   THEN I watched 25-30 movies I hadn't seen before.   Long story short, this was a nightmare to narrow down this list even to 100.   On a different day I could easily make a case for those next 100+ movies I had written down.

I think there is going to be a pretty wide variety of films on there but I haven’t seen KP’s list yet and he hasn’t seen mine.

So obviously, the movies that we both have on our lists will be the ones dominating the top of the countdown.  Then our personal faves will be mixed in.   The interesting thing for me to see is how many we will double up on.

what kind of interaction are you looking for from the peanut gallery?

As much or as little as people want.

Like I said above, this was a brutal for me to narrow down to just 100 there are a ton of movies that will be left off, and ones that I really like a lot as well.    I think people would be able to guess what type off oddities will be on the list or what notable movies will be not on the list (my rants in the last month in the movie thread will give clues too as I watched and rewatched a ton of 90s movies in the last 2 months).     I get that my tastes aren't everybody, but I encourage people to maybe rewatch movies they haven't seen in 2 decades plus and/or attempt to make their own top 100 list before being too negatively critical of what our countdown reveals.

I’m up to 47 and I haven’t really even tackled the essentials yet

There were a ton that I seem to like about the same.  There are hundreds of titles I would rate 6 or 7 out of 10.   I tried treating it a bit as a desert island movie list and could only take these 100 with me.

I'm afraid to even read this list...

(but I'm sure that I will anyway ;) )

I am open to anything, even jokes or mockery at my expense. I really don't take this too seriously.
I'll be here for the flogging and mocking. All the week. Until the combine. So not at all, really, with the flogging and the mocking. More like "atta boy's" and the like.

I could come up with a list of 100 from the 90's but I'd really be holding my nose with the last quarter or so.

It'd be a great top 20 though.

fully expecting at least half of my top 10 from this decade to totally miss this extravaganza.

who knows ... i may be pleasantly surprised.

If that's the case, maybe better taste in movies is in order?  ;)

Probably a bunch of stuff like “Sawdust and Mildew”…

I promise to give everyone a nice mix of critically acclaimed and crap in my rankings

I have a mix. Foreign to stupid comedies to blockbusters to period costume dramas. Wong Kar Wai to Jim Carrey to Michael Bay to Emma Thompson.
