RB J.D. McKissic, FA (1 Viewer)

J.D. McKissic rushed eight times for 53 yards in Washington's Week 2 loss against the Cardinals.

McKissic ripped off several lengthy runs behind the Washington offensive line. He was a far more effective runner than Antonio Gibson. McKissic supplanted Peyton Barber in the Football Team backfield, as Barber saw a single carry against Arizona.

I was watching the abridged gamecast of the Washington Football Team thinking Gibson looked pretty good. I wondered who was this #24 and why he was getting the ball so much. My preconceived notion caused a case of mistaken identity. Long story short, I thought #41 McKissic had better vision and decisiveness, and dare I say elusiveness.

Funny thing is, McKissic played mostly WR in college just like Gibson. I wonder if they'll convert Sims into a RB too since he's a lousy WR.

Washington RB J.D. McKissic rushed once for three yards in Washington's Week 5 loss to the Rams, adding six receptions for 46 yards.

McKissic saw eight targets while running 23 pass routes -- the seventh most among running backs so far in Week 5. Antonio Gibson led the Washington backfield with 11 carries Sunday, but McKissic continues to eat into Gibson's passing down opportunity. With Kyle Allen back under center this week against the Giants, we can't expect a bunch of targets for McKissic from Alex Smith. McKissic is a low-end RB3 option in PPR leagues.

This is the reason I took him in my extremely RB friendly big $ league, 1.5ppr for RBs and bonus pts at every 50yds receiving.  He’ll be the best flex option rest of season now

J.D. McKissic rushed eight times for 27 yards and a touchdown in Washington's Week 10 loss to the Lions, adding seven receptions for 43 yards.

McKissic again dominated targets for Washington, seeing 15 passes from Alex Smith, who threw 55 times against Detroit. McKissic now has a Kamara-like 29 targets in two weeks with Smith under center. As much as Antonio Gibson drafters want their guy to be the Football Team's every down back, it's McKissic who will continue seeing targets out of the backfield. He should be considered a low-end PPR RB2 in Week 11 against the Bengals.

J.D. McKissic caught 10-of-10 targets for 70 yards in Washington's Week 13 win over the Steelers.

Washington was losing for most of this game before ultimately pulling off the upset in the final minutes of the game. With Antonio Gibson going down in the first quarter, McKissic was in line for an above-average role early on. The negative game-script was a massive factor in his target volume. He also added five carries for eight yards. If Gibson misses time beyond this week, McKissic would be a solid RB3 option versus the 49ers next week.

4-10-1 rushing

5-83 on 6 targets

17.8 half / 20.3 full

hard to believe he’s fantasy relevant again

seems impossible to predict when he’s gonna have these Flex appeal games but points is points if you’re desperate

J.D. McKissic caught 5-of-6 targets for 83 yards in Washington's Week 2 win over the Giants, adding four rushes for 10 additional yards.

McKissic came back to life this evening after Antonio Gibson out-touched him 23-1 in Week 1. Gibson's advantage was a more modest 15-9 against the Giants, while McKissic won the yardage war 93-73. That was largely due to a 56-yard reception in the fourth quarter where McKissic faked to the flat before jutting up the sideline and coming completely wide open. Six targets isn't blowing the doors off, but it has complicated the post-Week 1 narrative heading into a tough matchup with the Bills. Gibson still has a ways to go to cut into McKissic's advantage on third downs and in the two-minute drill. Meanwhile, McKissic having seven targets through two games isn't exactly screaming PPR FLEX.

J.D. McKissic had eight rushes for 45 yards in Washington's Week 6 loss to the Chiefs, adding eight catches for 65 yards.

Antonio Gibson coming in and out of the game with his lingering shin injury set up McKissic for his 16 touches, most of them in the second half. Gibson missing time -- a distinct possibility after he finished Washington's Week 6 game on the sideline -- would make McKissic a more reliable fantasy option, though Jaret Patterson would figure to take on most of the early-down workload. McKissic only has PPR upside when Washington faces negative, pass-heavy game script. Good luck predicting when that might be.

J.D. McKissic rushed seven times for 30 yards and one touchdown in Washington's Week 12 win over the Seahawks, adding five catches for 26 yards and a second touchdown on five targets.

McKissic caught a 10-yard touchdown in the first half and then ran one in from 10 yards out in the fourth quarter, accounting for both of Washington's touchdowns in this one. McKissic was out-carried 29-7 by Antonio Gibson, and Gibson actually caught seven passes to McKissic's five, but it was McKissic who capitalized on his two red-zone touches. Late in the fourth quarter, McKissic took a knee to the head and had to be carted to the locker room. His status for Week 13 in Vegas is up in the air. Gibson's floor would be higher without McKissic in the lineup.

J.D. McKissic (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday.

McKissic was carted off the field on Monday night and is now in the concussion protocol. He looks doubtful for Week 13, although it's possible he returns to practice later in the week. Antonio Gibson looks like a low-end RB1 if McKissic misses any time, due to the additional reception volume that would be available. McKissic will be an RB2 against the Raiders, if available.

J.D. McKissic (concussion) is out for Week 13 against the Raiders.

McKissic was carted off during Washington's Monday night win against the Seahawks and did not practice this week. His absence will be a setback for Washington's conservative offense and should give a massive pass route and target to Antonio Gibson. Against Seattle, Gibson saw season-high usage as a pass catcher, reeling in all seven of his targets for 35 yards. Gibson, who has 81 rushes over the team's past three games, is suddenly a rock-solid RB1 against a Vegas defense allowing the sixth most fantasy points to running backs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports J.D. McKissic (questionable, concussion) is out for Week 14 against the Cowboys.

McKissic got in some limited practices this week but could not clear the protocol. His absence for Sunday's high-totaled affair with Dallas locks Antonio Gibson in as an elite RB1, one with an excellent shot at catching five-plus passes. Having resumed practicing, McKissic should be ready to return in Week 15 against the Eagles after missing two contests.

J.D. McKissic (concussion) was not seen practicing Wednesday.

Washington has not released their official injury report yet but it's safe to assume McKissic will go down as a DNP today. He remains in concussion protocols and has missed the previous two games. With McKissic completely out for those games and absent for much of Week 12 as well, Antonio Gibson has 15 targets in the past three weeks. He'll continue to see elite usage and project for RB1 numbers as long as McKissic remains sidelined.

Not feeling good about J.D. going forward. It's more than a little concerning that he wasn't on the practice field today...Not panicking yet, but if he's not on the field Thursday a couple weeks removed from his injury, I'm afraid he his more banged up than originally thought.

Idle for another practice

December 16, 2021

McKissic (concussion) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

ANALYSIS
McKissic looked to be advancing through the concussion protocol last week after he managed limited practices Thursday and Friday before being ruled out in advance of Washington's 27-20 loss to Dallas, but the running back appears to have since suffered a setback. He's now been listed as a non-participant in two straight practices, which suggests his absence from Wednesday's session wasn't merely a maintenance day. Even if he gets back on the field as a limited participant Friday, McKissic will still need to get the green light to take contact in addition to gaining clearance from an independent neurologist in order to play Sunday in Philadelphia. Given the multiple obstacles in his way, McKissic appears likely to sit out a third consecutive game.

@John_Keim

Ron Rivera said he was optimistic that WR Terry McLaurin will be cleared to play, perhaps later today. Said he was hopeful on JD McKissic, but he was more upbeat about McLaurin's chances...

J.D. McKissic said he wants to return to the Football Team in 2022.

McKissic, who missed the team's final few games with a neck injury, has limited Antonio Gibson's pass-catching role over the past two seasons. Though Washington coaches have often talked up Gibson's pass-catching prowess and their desire to get him more involved in the screen game, McKissic has served as the primary third down and two minute drill option. McKissic commanded a 15 percent target share in his 11 games this season; Gibson had an 11 percent share. McKissic's return to Washington would once again cap Gibson's fantasy upside.

The Athletic's Ben Standig said the Commanders want to re-sign J.D. McKissic and sign another running back this offseason.

McKissic has served as the team's primary pass-catching back for two years and has said he wants to return to Washington in 2022. His continued presence in the Washington backfield would once again firmly cap Antonio Gibson's upside, and another addition to the backfield -- Standig believes it would be a runner "capable of spelling or taking over on early downs when Gibson sits" -- could further erode Gibson's opportunity. Gibson had an up-and-down 2021 season, as he was benched for fumbling and poor play before he was treated as a workhorse during Washington's late-season win streak. He'll remain the Commanders' lead back, though his share of the backfield pie could shrink if the team is intent on adding to the running back depth chart this offseason.

ESPN's John Keim confirms the Commanders "want to re-sign" impending free agent J.D. McKissic.

The Athletic reported as such two days ago, while McKissic himself has said he wants to be back in Washington. The 28-year-old missed the final six weeks of 2021 with a neck issue, but he was averaging four weekly receptions before going down. That is extremely frustrating for Antonio Gibson partisans in fantasy, and there has been little indication Washington wants to cut Gibson loose as a pass catcher. After an initial increase in grabs following McKissic's injury, Gibson caught two or fewer balls in three of the final four games of the season.

Bills signed J.D. McKissic, formerly of the Commanders, to a two-year, $7 million contract.

McKissic can earn up to $8 million with the deal. His departure from Washington could conceivably open up a larger pass-catching role for Antonio Gibson, whose fantasy upside has been capped by McKissic's usage in Washington's offense over the past couple years. McKissic's addition to Buffalo's backfield is a major issue for Devin Singletary's prospects as an every-down back in a high-scoring offense. Singletary saw an uptick in pass routes and targets late in 2021 after he seized the team's primary RB role. McKissic, who averaged 6.1 targets per game in two seasons with the Commanders, will lop off a chunk of Singletary's targets and receptions in 2022. The Bills targeted running backs at a 15.1 percent rate in 2021, the third lowest mark in the NFL.

Washington signed RB J.D. McKissic to a two-year, $7 million contract.

A sharp eye will notice that McKissic reportedly signed with the Bills 24 hours ago. While that was expected to be the case, McKissic had yet to sign on the dotted line. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Washington initially chose not to make him an offer but decided to match Buffalo's deal once they saw the terms. McKissic's return could put an end to the short-lived, Antonio Gibson as an RB1 era. The pass-catching specialist went down in Week 12 with a concussion and eventual neck issue. These injuries kept him out for the remainder of the year. From Week 12 onward, Gibson averaged 3.8 catches and 23 receiving yards per game. McKissic will likely reclaim his receiving role after posting a 123/986/4 receiving line through two years in Washington. He has some RB3/4 life in PPR leagues while Gibson appears stuck in the RB2 range for now.

What the hell was he thinking if he ever wants chance at a Super Bowl?  He should have went to the Bills, unless he is privy to some news about the Bills that we are unaware of.

He knows we are stealing Watson, flying under the radar...its all just as I dreamed it would be

J.D. McKissic rushed three times for eight yards in the Commanders' Week 1 loss to the Jaguars, adding three receptions for an additional 20 yards.

The Commanders went out of their way to bring McKissic back in 2022 after he nearly bolted for Buffalo. Despite his return to the team, Washington appeared to have little use for McKissic in this one, with Antonio Gibson seeing eight targets out of the backfield for a productive 72 yards. Clearly the better back, Gibson should see most of the running back targets when active. A third-down role for McKissic may still exist, but that didn't appear to be the case Sunday. McKissic may have some upside as a deep league flier next week against the Lions, but he's probably best kept on the bench.

J.D. McKissic caught 7-of-7 targets for 54 yards in the Commanders' Week 2 loss against the Lions, adding three carries for an additional nine yards.

After drawing just three targets last week, the Commanders got McKissic more involved against the Lions. Some of this could have to do with the game script, as Washington trailed 22-0 at halftime in this one, but McKissic's usage in the passing game is interesting given the success Antonio Gibson had through the air last week. If Washington prioritizes McKissic in the passing game going forward, he could be a solid RB3 in games that include negative game scripts -- which could be as early as next week when the Commanders play host to the Eagles.

- NBCSportsEDGE

J.D. McKissic had three rushes for eight yards in the Commanders' Week 3 loss to the Eagles, adding six catches for 32 yards.

McKissic was tied for second on the team with nine targets on the day. Washington chased points throughout the second half, again reverting to a pass-heavy game script. That meant more McKissic and less Antonio Gibson. McKissic remains a PPR asset, with 16 receptions through three games. He should continue as Washington's primary pass-catching running back in Week 4 against the Cowboys.

The Athletic's Ben Standig writes J.D. McKissic's "career faces uncertainty" after he suffered a season-ending neck injury for the second consecutive year.

He was reportedly meeting with a specialist in the middle of last season, but was placed on IR with the expectation that he needed a few months of rehab. It does not sound like, inferring from this sentence, the rehab has been all that successful at fixing the neck issue. McKissic has a $3.23 million cap hit next season, in the final non-void year of his contract, and the Commanders can save $1.2 million by cutting him.

Hi all, new to the forum! Anyone have news on McKissic's status? I'm in a deep dynasty league and wonder if there is a chance he pops up on a RB needy team.

Welcome to the boards 👋

I wish I had a more helpful comment but I haven't heard a peep about him. Depending on just how "deep", I probably wouldn't touch him at this time.

I think his neck injury was/is serious enough that teams don't want to sign him, to protect themselves (of course they're selfish, it's a business) and with the additional benefit of protecting him.
