RB Antonio Gibson, NE (1 Viewer)

Antonio Gibson (shin) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Gibson hasn't practiced on a Wednesday in roughly a month so the limited status actually qualifies as progress. He has been dealing with the shin issue for a while but has yet to miss a game, although he did sit out the final quarter of his Week 6 matchup with the Chiefs. He'll play through the pain again this week and remains a high-end RB2 based on his usage. He's averaging 14.7 carries per game but has been featured sparingly as a receiver. J.D. McKissic has out-targeted him 34-18 on the year.

Washington did not list RB Antonio Gibson (shin) on their injury report for Week 8 against the Broncos.

Gibson has seen his snaps dwindle and his passing game role crater over the last few weeks. Dealing with a fracture in his shin, one full practice on Friday is unlikely to change his situation much. It's still a positive sign that his health isn't further deteriorating. Gibson shapes up as a RB2 against the Broncos. He will likely need to get in the end zone deliver a strong fantasy day.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Stats: Chargers' run D holding Justin Herbert back?

Excerpt:

Washington is 10th in neutral pass rate, 30th in rushing EPA

It’s about time to give up the ghost on Antonio Gibson’sbreakout season. Between the defense being not just a disappointing unit but a net negative, his own injuries and other absences crippling the offense ... it’s just not going to happen this year, barring a miracle.

That said, the third variable in his fall could be about to turn around. Washington has a Week 9 bye and should get healthier in the weeks that follow.

Everything hinges on Ryan Fitzpatrick’s upcoming MRI. Taylor Heinicke is a great story but the longer he plays the more it becomes clear that Washington needs a little more. If the veteran can come back at some point this year, maybe Washington finishes strong. Don’t forget that they have Logan Thomas and Curtis Samuel possibly on the reinforcement line. We just don’t talk enough about how different this offense looks right now compared to who we expected to suit up this season.

i wish they would just shut him down. He needs time off. Be honest about it.
You’re right. Shut him down for a. I think let him heal so he can be useful down the stretch right now he’s not useful to the Football Team or us fantasy owners

well, Cynthia Frelund at NFL.com just put out a list of records for teams. Washington 10.5 wins. This is going to be a damn good team with a power run game and Gibson will be CMC-light.

One of the NFL .com (Handzus?) say they are a bottom 8 team in the league.  Which is BS.

I think they are 11-6 or 10-7 barring bad injuries.

They have made other significant improvements as well. WR group is way better. WFT looks pretty strong everywhere except QB, and again huge improvement there even if still bad.

They'll be in contention for a wild card berth through the last week of the season.
Everyone still think this team is winning 10/11 games?

In everyone's defense, as well as this team played late last year, especially the defense, I think its safe to say NO ONE say this horrid play coming. And the injuries to Fitzmagic, Gibson, Samuel, and Thomas and the o-line have hurt, but yeah....we stink.  :bag:

True enough if we're specifically talking about WFT and nothing else.  But historically in the modern NFL the majority of borderline playoff teams from one year are straight garbage the following season.

Antonio Gibson (shin) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Even after the bye week, Gibson remains limited in practices. It's something that's likely to bother him the remainder of the season, Fresh off getting out-touched by J.D. McKissic and out-carried by Jaret Patterson, Gibson is really difficult to trust as anything more than a TD-or-bust RB2 ahead of Week 10 against the Bucs.

Dynasty guys…what are we thinking about this guy?
That's what I'm trying to figure out. Have been borderline-obsessed with the guy since before he was drafted, but then missed him in our rookie draft. Have made many fairly generous offers over time. But at this point I don't know. I don't want to say his value is "tanking" but I sure wouldn't pay now what I would have this past offseason. I've thought of offering Aaron Jones or Joe Mixon for Gibson along with at least a possibly-high first. I don't think he'd take it, and I'm not sure it's worth the risk since I'm a contender. I really don't know. Any other opinions out there?

I'm holding in dynasty.  I say he's an acquire target if you can get him at a discount from a frustrated owner.  But I wouldn't overpay or even pay "market value" for him, whatever that is.

I own Gibson and if someone offered me Mixon I’d jump at it. It they threw in a first I would think they were just messing with me.

Antonio Gibson (shin) remained limited in practice on Thursday.

Antonio Gibson's shin and D'Andre Swift's groin are in a fierce battle to see which injury can last longest on the report but not cost any real games or even remotely threaten Sunday status. At this point, maintenance rest on Gibson's shin injury is the normal and he can be expected to play a normal slate of touches until further notice. "Normal," of course, being relative given the state of the Football Team's game scripts.

What if I offered Mixon and 3 mid-2d rounders for Gibson and a mid-high first and a low first? I feel like I'm asking a bit much. But I feel like it would be a bad move to get any less for Mixon, as I'm a contender. I'd likely be losing points, possibly significantly, for this season. But I'm asking a lot, right?

Also he is a surprise "brink of playoffs" team. He thought he'd be at the bottom but he's 4-5 in a league where 7/12 make the playoffs. So he might want Mixon to try to barge into the playoff room. Not to mention, he's a Bengals fan, don't know if that matters to him.

Sorry, this would be more fit for the Assistant Coach forum, but, we're precisely on this subject right now.

Here’s the problem. There’s always a chance a first round pick ends up being the 1.01 or 1.02, which is SUPER valuable. No matter how many seconds you get, the best possible position you have is pick 13. So even though your idea seems fair on the surface, I don’t think anyone is going to give up that much for a bunch of second round picks. Gibson and Mixon are close enough that the picks just don’t make it up.

What would you pay?

Is two random future 1sts market?

Redraft

just offered him for Aaron Jones straight up.  The other owner needs to win now and could be without Jones for 3 weeks

Week 11 fantasy stats: Behold the amount of ways Cowboys can crush you

Excerpt:

Week 10: 26 touches for Antonio Gibson (a season-high) and 63% of the snaps (highest since Week 1)

Did the bye week just help Antonio Gibson get healthy or was it a simple game script that helped the Washington Football Team feed him against Tampa Bay?

Hopefully a little bit of both.

We’ll never expect Gibson to be 100 percent his year but feeling a little better post-bye would help. Especially as it comes in conjunction with his offensive line, namely Brandon Scherff, getting back healthy.

Regardless, we should be rolling Gibson out this week after his Week 10 workload. The game against Carolina should be a close, competitive back-and-forth contest. That’ll keep the script right for Gibson. The Panthers are an awesome aerial defense but there’s a big gap between their second-ranked pass defense in DVOA and their 19th-ranked unit against the run.

Love the talent but had to get off the ride this year in redraft. Moved him as part of a trade for Conner.

Impossible to tell if game script is going to favor him or McKissic (who's looked good as well this year) week to week. Losing Chase Young means there could be a negative game scrip more often, or longer drives from the opposition leading to less opportunities. That stress fracture is a time bomb and if WFT loses a few more I could see them shutting Gibson down.

Antonio Gibson rushed 29 times for 111 yards and caught all seven of his targets for 35 yards in Washington's Week 12 win over the Seahawks.

Gibson's carries and catches were both season-highs, besting his previous totals of 24 and three in the respective categories. He out-carried J.D. McKissic 29-7 and actually out-targeted the pass-game specialist 7-5, too. But it was McKissic who scored a pair of red-zone touchdowns with one each as a runner and receiver. Gibson was only missing the touchdown from his stat line, though he did punch in a two-point conversion in the third quarter. McKissic had to be carted off late with an apparent head/neck injury, leaving his status for Week 13 against Vegas up in the air. If McKissic needs to miss, Gibson's floor will be a bit safer as an RB2.

I really want to be in on this guy but it feels like he's always getting banged up and McKissic (and too a lesser extent Patterson) do just enough to really limit his upside. He does have a great schedule to finish the year but I am concerned in dynasty.

Week 13 Fantasy Football Stats: An RB1 finish for Antonio Gibson?

Excerpt:

Antonio Gibson leads the NFL with 72 carries over the last three weeks. He has nine runs of 10-plus yards and nine catches on nine targets.

When we were (read: I was) so gassed up about Antonio Gibson during fantasy draft season, this is the buy we thought we were getting.

The Antonio Gibson resurgence is here

Everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong for Gibson this year. His own injuries have held him back, the team’s disappointing defense has kept them out of run-friendly game scripts and multiple maladies to the Washington offense have made the unit unrecognizable.

Since his re-emergence, you can point to factors that have at least put a band-aid on those issues — if not outright fixed them.

It appears that even if he’s still been on the injury report due to his shin at times, Washington at least believes the bye week got Gibson closer to 100 percent. This huge workload came right after the week off. The team has also gotten healthier since then. Obviously, Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t coming back but Curtis Samuel and Logan Thomasare starting to get back in the mix. Offensive linemen Brandon Scherff is back, as well, which is crucial considering the rest of the offensive line is so banged up they’re starting true no-name players.

Beyond the players, Scott Turner has continued to adjust his offense to account for Taylor Heinicke’s strengths and limitations while playing with a banged-up supporting cast. The team is quite play-action-heavy and runs plenty of route combinations to suit his arm talent. They also spread the field with three-plus receivers when they want to run looks, keeping the box light for Gibson behind a compromised line. Schematically, Washington has been on-point of late.

As for the defense, the front-four remains a problem amid injuries but they’ve solved some of their issues on the back end. Moving Landon Collins closer to the line of scrimmage while playing more three-safety looks has erased some of the coverage busts. Washington has been in positive or neutral game scripts as a result of this during their three-game winning streak which has allowed Gibson to go to work.

Gibson has been a frustrating player in fantasy this season. He might finish as an RB1 the rest of the way and enter 2022 on a hot streak.

Obviously it's still early and there are a lot of moving pieces, but how nervous is everyone getting about WFT's Covid outbreak? NBC Edge is reporting that fully 1/3 of their active roster will be made up of practice-squad players. (Trying to nail down exactly how many OL starters are on the list.)

My potential replacements for Gibson this week are Freeman, Michel, Penny and Edmonds. With a relatively good matchup, it will take a fair amount to make me bench him, but missing his entire starting O-line would probably be enough.

Suffered some sort of toe injury, Cowboys run D doesn't look like a great match up.  What are we thinking this week?

I need to decide whether or not to play D.Foreman tonight.

Ooh, that's tough. The fact that Rivera said it's similar to the turf toe injury he had last year makes me worried. Don't love Foreman but if you need him, I guess he's a decent replacement. If you don't start him tonight and then Gibson later sits, who would be your Sunday fall-back option?

Another problem is WFT plays on SNF.  I do have Patterson if Gibson were to sit.

Other options would be Darrel Williams, D.Henderson (already have Sony in my lineup).

I guess it comes down to two questions:

How confident do you feel that Gibson plays? Put a rough percentage on it.

Would you prefer Foreman or X% chance of Gibson + Patterson (or Williams or whoever)?

Personally, I don't really like Foreman, so I'd probably go with Gibson/Patterson. I think with no Gibson/McKissic JPat would at least be guaranteed a lot of volume. But there's no one right answer.

Thanks, always helps to talk through things.

According to my league site, Dallas is 6th vs. RBs so that's bothering me too.

Wasn't Gibson DNP last week leading up to the game? And then he was basically a workhorse.

Just curious if this is normal for him with this toe issue.

Obviously it's a shorter week so more of an uphill climb.

Grabbed J. Patterson for the hell of it since players are falling by the wayside.

I believe the toe injury is new, suffered during last week's game.

I believe the toe issue was a new one that occurred during the Eagles game. The injury Gibson has been battling all season was his shin.

ETA: Zed beat me to it
