If we do, I'm just going to copy your list anyway. I can't name a movie from the 40's with any degree of confidence. The 40s are my favorite decade so I am hoping we find a way to do it in so capacity.

As I look at stuff, I think I have just slept on the 70s besides the heavy hitters. I will make it tough for me to put lists together, but I will get a lot of new stuff to watch. I mentioned it in the other thread, but I must have just jumped over that decade and gotten to the 40s-60s when I started digging through the classics.I think year by year pre-70s would prove tough for a lot of posters given the average age around here but I think grouping by years of 5 might get everyone. At least through the 50s?

Good- double my voting power. There are lots of great movies I would recommend from that era but it can be a shock to the system for modern viewers. My dad wached a lot of older movies so I got a lot of exposure to them as a kid and I am really interested in history- particularly the first half of the 20th century so the movies have a historic interest to me as well.If we do, I'm just going to copy your list anyway. I actually am the same way. I thought I had seen a lot more 70s films than I actually had.As I look at stuff, I think I have just slept on the 70s besides the heavy hitters. The new avatar gang representing.I actually am the same way. I thought I had seen a lot more 70s films than I actually had.
I think a decent pace is to have one every 2-3 weeks if the interest level keeps up.
Cutoff should be 2009 - the last year I was childless and could actually watch films not targeted at kids.Looks like the voting is positive for the 00s+ but split on how far to go. After thinking about it for a bit, I am going to compromise a tad and for the randomizer just do 2000-2013.
They are some of the best movies of the last few years anywayCutoff should be 2009 - the last year I was childless and could actually watch films not targeted at kids.
Otherwise my subsequent lists will be a litany of Despicable Me movies.
Movies targeted at kids I might agree with you, but not the DM sequels and Minion movies. They are some of the best movies of the last few years anyway
Minions has grown on me. Probably because I've had to watch it 82,647 times. I often just wander around screaming "King Bob!" at the top of my lungs now.Movies targeted at kids I might agree with you, but not the DM sequels and Minion movies.
Nice. My overall 2nd place movie and 12 other awesome ones. Good year.
Well, it's fitting that we get to travel farther back for the next draft and go to the year people were pointing at as a reason to do the 1970s by year.
Next up is..... 1974.

I think I have seen 9 and disliked 2, so I have some digging or watching to do.Nice. My overall 2nd place movie and 12 other awesome ones. Good year.
We will use this as a measuring stick since it might be one of the more stacked years, so let's see what it brings.70's individual years is going to be rough. I mistakenly looked at 1972 and only had seen 4 movies from that year. 1974 is not that better - only 7.
After assigning points to E.T., Wrath of Khan, and The Pirate Movie...I'm all out of points.
cinema's greatest year, if i remember correctly

It’s very strong at the top but I’m not too versed in the middle tier stuff from 74cinema's greatest year, if i remember correctly
i was already a father, but you werent even a son yet, amirite? It’s very strong at the top but I’m not too versed in the middle tier stuff from 74
the original Ed Norton had some chops, his performance will win you over ... it's a terrific movie, you're about to go on a pretty amazing journeyWhat a crazy collection of movies 1974 is - multiple Roger Corman sexploitation films, blacksploitation films, one of the most famous porns of all time, Benji, multiple disaster/catastrophe films, a handful of all time greats in a few genres - and Zardoz.
And Art Carney won best actor at the academy awards over Finney, Hoffman, Nicholson, and Pachino for a movie I've never heard of, but I guess should probably check out in preparation for this list.
Yeah my parents wouldn’t even meet for another 6 yearsi was already a father, but you werent even a son yet, amirite?
Sooooo....there is a better sci fi in this very same year.So let's just get this out of the way because I have a feeling y'all gonna hate me by the time this list goes up.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is not only the clear number 1, but the greatest sci fi movie of all time and all time top 10 in any genre. It's also in my top 3 all time.
Mel and sigourney both at the top their hotnesses. Linda Hunt too.Watched The Year of Living Dangerously last night for research. I had seen it but I was probably too young to really get it. My mom had a thing for Mel so I saw all his movies. I have to give it to her, young Mel was looking good.
Anyway It’s a good movie and will be on my list somewhere. I definitely have my types and political thrillers push my buttons.
Also bonus points for the tiny woman that played a little Asian man.
Peter Weir was a great director!Watched The Year of Living Dangerously last night for research. I had seen it but I was probably too young to really get it. My mom had a thing for Mel so I saw all his movies. I have to give it to her, young Mel was looking good.

Yeah I will have a few of his films on my lists.Peter Weir was a great director!
Since this thread is mostly discussion of 1974 films, should I go to the 1999 thread to discuss 1982 movies?
I think that's right.
Do we need to copy and paste the 5 pages of 1982 talk in that thread over here?
Did you get around to watching My Favorite Year?Watched The Year of Living Dangerously last night for research. I had seen it but I was probably too young to really get it. My mom had a thing for Mel so I saw all his movies. I have to give it to her, young Mel was looking good.

Yes and I really liked it. O'Toole was incredible. I'm not sure if it's because the guy from Perfect Strangers was in it or if it's something in the way the movie was made but any scene without O'Toole felt like a sitcom. I almost expected a fake laugh track at points. If they had cast someone better in the role as the junior writer, it could have been in the running for my favorite movie of the year.Did you get around to watching My Favorite Year?
Disagree. And I think more people need to jump on board with the awesomeness that was Wrath of Khan. You gave one movie about 30pts too many.
My #1 for the year, edging Sophie's Choice (only cuz i dont like the guy who played Stingo)Watched The Year of Living Dangerously last night for research.
