I put in Star Trek II last year sometime and could barely make it through 45 mins.  :bag:

Not sure what's going to strike me tonight, but so far for the draft I have watched An Officer and a Gentleman, E.T., White Dog, 48 Hours, and Tootsie.  Within the last month and before we even started this adventure I had revisited Blade Runner, The Thing, and Fast Times.  Not sure how many of these are going to end up on my list, but I am guessing at least 4.

I think the pile next to the TV includes:  My Favorite Year, Sophie's Choice, Creepshow, First Blood, The Wall, and The World According to Garp.

McCready running the blood test on the strapped down crew in "The Thing"
These were two that popped into my mind right away.  I also love the Replicant test scenes in Blade Runner, especially the one that starts the movie.

If I had a white glove I would slap you with it.

Does anyone here remember the '82 movie Shoot the Moon? I liked it a lot until the very ending.

*ALERT*

I will be putting Fitzcaraldo and Burden of Dreams as one entry.

Also, I want to pimp the Grey Fox.  along with Straight Story, a near perfect casting and performance by Farnsworth.
Fitz is on the short list of moves I am going to try to watch from 82 before I vote...................

Yank:  I'm doing a 1982 movie list on my forum.  Some great movies that year.

Wife:  Like what.

Yank: Wrath of Khan, Blade Runner, Fast Times, ET

Wife:

Yank:  What?

Wife:  You said great movies.

Yank: Officer and a Gentlemen

Wife: Ah, ok.

Yank: Want to watch one? I'm thinking My Favorite Year

Wife: Who is in it?

Yank:  Peter O'Toole and Balky's roomate

Wife: I'll pass.  You want some hot water with lemon you old ****?

Yank: ..................... yes please.

good acting, well shot, total mess otherwise. i remember leaving the theater in NY disappointed, missing the west and not needing to be reminded how stupid people can be and i've not watched it since

my #2 selection (25 pts) seems to be missing from all the other lists i've seen
it will not be in my Desaparecidos

I think I am going to watch a couple more from 82 this weekend and then move on to 74, since I need more help there.
I watched Halloween III last night.....my wife and I love it. Guilty pleasure indeed. And it really has developed a huge cult following/status. Misunderstood movie indeed. Just good fun.

Also watched E.T. for the umpteeth time and still tears fell a little. Classic.

Going to pop in The Beastmaster tonight. I have the remastered DVD of that gem.

I didn't think it was a total mess, although the first half of the movie was stronger than the second half, and I didn't care for the ending. I haven't seen it since 1982, but I would like to see it again, and see what I think of it now. It isn't a feel good movie. I just looked up the director, Alan Parker, and I had no idea that he directed Pink Floyd's The Wall that came out the same year.

i would not be at all surprised to find myself enjoying a 2nd watching all these years later, but i kinda like & miss having a definitive feeling about a movie coming out of a theater - even though it could well have been mood, my date, audience jackhole, whatever - and having that capsule in its place in my head more than the nebulous 'meh' i have about almost everything anymore

For sure Halloween 3 would have done so much better if it had just about any other title.  I still don't know why they thought it was a good idea to use the Halloween name and try to do a different weird horror movie each year with it.  I thought I heard that the Friday the 13th series thought about doing the same thing, but I guess they saved that for the TV show instead.  I joked about a vote for H3 being worth a nut punch, but like you said it's a guilty pleasure.  Mostly I am afraid to re-watch it for my list because I know that damn song will be stuck in my head for weeks if I do.

I think Creepshow is on deck for me tonight and a drama sometime over the weekend - The Verdict or Sophie's Choice.

Slowly working on the submitted lists.  I think we have about 15 so far.  I just did 5 and there are 5 movies that made each of the lists.  3 movies over 100pts so far and about 35 titles with votes.

I assume Wrath of Khan is comfortably in the lead...

is it better for you, KP, that we PM our lists to you or post them under spoiler cover on the boards? dont want your Inbox getting clogged

@wikkidpissah - I prefer them as a PM.  it keeps them organized a little better.  We were close to filling the inbox last time, but we didn't so it should be good if we stick to this year.  My concern was that I was getting lists and questions for future years and I didn't want that interfering.

10 lists calculated now, and only one flick has been on all 10.

This time around I am trying to take it slower and I am going to add up how many lists the movies were on, and also how many 25pt+ OR 1st place votes that the titles got.  I will stick to the bad movie review shtick, and probably just replace the imdb/metacritic scores with this info.  (unless people really liked that info too)

I'll need to check that one out. Thought I had, but looking at it now...nope.

Glad to see somebody else out Liquid Sky up there. Completely goofy movie, but captured that era amazingly well...at least for me.

Eating Raoul I remember more for the performance (s)... But I feel like that's another one I should rewatch.

Caught up with what I have.  I sent messages to 3 that need to adjust their lists, and Floppo's is still there.  With mine that will make 20 so far with 1week+ to go.

Nah... Good to go. Thanks for checking back though
You are officially entered in.

We are at 16 that are added up, including mine.  3 movies at 250+pts already.    A couple surprises to me, and one that is getting very few, but very high points.  It's at 105pts on only 4 votes.   62 different titles so far.

Keep 'em coming.

I’ve seen clips of Fast Times here and there, but was watching it last night for the first time all the way through.  I feel like I’m about 10 years too young to really appreciate it.  I thought the characters were mostly uninteresting and unfunny, apart from Spicoli. The pool scene was probably the best (and I can see why someone coming of age in the early 1980s would have appreciated it), but the easy availability of internet porn that does not have cameras alternating between boobs and Judge Reinhold whacking it in a pirate uniform makes it seem quaint now.

Interesting @Don Quixote - how old are you?

I was too young to watch some of these at the time, but had the opposite reaction.  I am not sure I watched the whole thing until my 30s, but I loved the movie.   Maybe there were enough nuggets of people that I knew and thought it was at least a little more "real" than most 80s movies dealing with High Schoolers.  (I know, kinda funny coming from somebody who was in grade school most of the 80s).

I saw Fast Times for the first time in the maybe 7th-8th grade. It was about 12 years old at that point and I absolutely loved it. It aged very well imo and over seen it several times since. That was also around the last time I saw The Thing. I hated it when I watched it. I think I saw John Carpenter and expected Halloween on ice so it just didn’t gel with my expectations.  I’m watching it now to see if my opinion will change.

I love Halloween as well, but that's definitely not what The Thing is, so I could see that expectation falling flat.  I gushed over it in the other thread when I watched it about a month ago.  Sure it's got some 80s cheese, but I just love the tension and the feeling of paranoia that movie creates.

I was born in 1979. So, I think a little bit younger.

I’d put it above Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles for a couple of other films with similar appeal from that era. It may just be a genre that I never really got.
