FBG Mock Draft (2 Viewers)

The Indianapolis Colts select:

3.82 Javon Bullard S, Georgia

Versatile athlete and Colts could use him in the secondary. Some sites profile him more as a nickel corner which the Colts don't need with having Kenny Moore. But hopefully they can find this plus athlete a role. He is a solid tackler.

This was the other guy we were mulling at pick #80. Part of why we didn't go with him (presumably as a nickel corner) was that they are trying to the same exact thing with Dax Hill this year. That it was too much of the same but I can very much see the Bengals going with him in this scenario.

Nice pick.

At pick 83, the Chicago Bears select Javon Baker, WR, UCF.

The Bears' WR2 is 32 and going into the final year of his contract, their new WR3 is an untested late second round rookie, and Tyler Scott is their WR4. So they could really use another WR as depth this season, a potential future starter if Allen moves on, and competition with Coleman to be this year's WR3. Baker is a fluid receiver with good body control and ball skills (though an occasional drops problem). He put up very good numbers in 2023 (though this was as a senior at UCF, where he transferred after being buried on the depth chart at Alabama). He is a favorite of a lot of the people I follow on Twitter.

@steelcityman is up for Pittsburgh at 84.

pick 84, the Steelers select Renardo Green, CB, FSU

We need CB, and he has all the skills to be a solid NFL CB. explosive athleticism and quick movement, reaction speed, open-field tackler, defended well vs Nabers from LSU.
Porter will lock down one side, can move newly acquired Donte Jackson inside to slot CB, and allow Green to work the other side.

Welp, I just checked page one to see who's drafting for Cleveland and oh yeah, lol, nobody.

So let's discuss it and make the pick. Off the top of my head, this team is complete on defense, could use a WR on offense. Yes?
I had volunteered in case no homer wanted it, but I never saw confirmation and didn't get into this thread this morning. Fiske would not have been the pick.
Cleveland is up in Rd 3. All yours if you want.

Makes me wonder if this is due to RB, LB, and S groups being unimpressive this year or if simply a function of everyone devaluing those positions.
LB class seems pretty weak when I was looking at it. I think that S and RB are more a function of the devaluing.

Yeah I'm far from any football expert but I thought LB does not seem like a position that would be devalued.

The off ball two down thumper guys that can’t cover just aren’t as valuable anymore with the modern passing game. OCs just exploit them again and again. See Devin White.

3.86 Houston Texans - Cedric Gray LB North Carolina

He was on my short list. I haven't drafted D; Dallas's weakness. I don't have a 4th rounder. Spent that offensively on more offense for Trey Lance. I looked into trading down and didn't like the value of the value chart. 6th and 7th round extra picks just aren't that interesting. I know I know, Brock Purdy, but that' so rare. I know I can't magically pick the best player available, so I work from a list of potential bpas based on a consensus of big boards and my own observations. With Gray gone there's one defensive player on that list and 5 offensive players. I guess it's just the nature of this class so...

so torn between the bigger need at RB and this deep deep wr class...

and somewhat crazy maybe my favorite player remaining is another OL... 3 straight? haha

nah, not doing that...

torn because my other two favorites are a wr and an rb...

i've praised the receiver and rb here pretty highly...

there's about as many potentially good receivers gonna fall to the 5th as there are rbs...

stream of consciousness pick...

i guess i want the receiver and trust a late round rb to be more helpful after not having a 4th rounder...

3.87 Jalen McMillan, WR, Washington

this guy was neck and neck with Odunze two seasons ago. two games into last season he had two more receptions and one more td than Odunze... and hurt his knee. he's not better than Odunze, but he's really good. as good a route runner as there is in this draft not named Harrison. better than Polk who stepped in for him, the knee injury cost him over half the season, but it wasn't serious enough to shut him down, so no worries there.

Cooks is old. Tolbert is developing. Turpin is a gadget. McMillan could be WR2 in Dallas very soon.

i'm off to dinner with fam in a sportsbook on the strip. i'll update as i have been late tonight, but that will likely be the last time i'm online until very late tomorrow night or early afternoon monday. glad i got this pick in today, or you may have had a 24 hr wait. :)

I agree that LB is generally considered less valuable in the league, but also think that this year is a particularly poor crop.

Not critiquing anyone's picks in particular, but man I'm a lot higher on Jermaine Burton than the rest of you. He's a top-10 WR in this class in my opinion.

ETA: Which isn't a knock, it'd be pretty boring if everyone's boards were the same.

He was on my short list at pick 86 FWIW

Was that D player Jeremiah Trotter ?
Not having that 4th rounder really hurts.

3.88 Green Bay selects Roger Rosengarten IOL Washington

Let’s really stack this OL. Another fast riser who can play many positions and gives line flexibility. I had 3 guys I really liked for this spot. And 3 guys I really liked for D but will go this way at pick 91.

From article read

Whoever lost their first round spot to Roger Rosengarten: With so many players already looking like first-round contenders, the Huskies might have one more case. Roger Rosengarten seriously showed up at the Huskies pro day. The senior offensive lineman was previously penciled in as a day 2 pick, but after what the scouts saw out of him today, he might end up in the top 32. Working with a mountain of a man in projected first-round pick Troy Fautano, Rosengarten did more than simply hold his own. He was violent and decisive in protection drills showing off an elite bag, while also moving surprisingly well in the mobility testing. Rosengarten was the talk of the workout for both media and scouts.

There is a lot of good talent still out here. I love trading down and getting more picks in this very deep draft. For Packers, WR and TE not need as seen great value at every pick for these positions. But OL has lots of nice names at this point also

3.90 -Kansas City picks Cam Hart, CB, Notre Dame

The talk and athletic press man corner should fit nicely into Spags aggressive scheme. TB sniped us on Jackson but Hart is a similar player in this fairly deep cb class.

Payback for sniping Creed Humphrey in front of us in 2021!

It would have almost been worth losing the Super Bowl to get him. Almost.. 😅

Titans are looking to trade up from 4.106 if any team is interested until our target is gone.

3.91 Jeremiah Trotter LB Clemson

Probably could have traded down with 3 guys I liked here. Thought about OL again but will McDuffie be enough. Have added a ton of speed to D with Melton, Hall and now Trotter. He can do lots of things in the end leaving Quay as the leader.

3.92 - Christian Mahogany, G, Boston College

Tampa's much maligned 32nd ranked in back to back years running game needs a shot in the arm, and this dude can flat out run block.

Trotter can cover and blitz, the big question is run defense due to size. Of the 10 scout ranks in DraftBuzz, he's ranked from 39 to 92 with a median of 68.5. He improved every year, is only 21, turns 22 in December. 6' 228". If he gets a little bigger and stronger, he could become good. Zach Thomas was 5'11" 240 lbs. This is value pick.

Dang there goes my pick. Woulda been a total homer pick as I can think of zero players from my home town (though wisely he played at one of the parochial schools.

Actually wouldn't be a real homer pick as he fit need there.
