2023 Year-end Song Draft - Ends Thursday Jan 25 (1 Viewer)

The Bug Club - Marriage

Twee English Indie

Sniped me on this one. Great song.

If we were still doing AOTYs, The Bug Club's Rare Birds: Hour of Song would have definitely made my list.

As the title implies it clocks in at over an hour including the spoken word interludes. That's probably a bit too long but I'd have a hard time trimming it down to normal length.

2. Vincent Neil Emerson - Little Wolf's Invincible Yellow Medicine Paint
Seems to have changed his style since the Motley Crue days

Dumping Lake and Palmer was a turning point

Were there 2 Big Thief songs taken already or did someone use the Spotify thing where will just add related songs to a playlist?

3. Lankum — The New York Trader

Lankum’s album got a decent amount of buzz when it came out last March. I recall giving it a try back then but I just wasn’t in the mood for Irish folk. I read about it again last month on some best of 2023 lists and gave it another shot. I’m glad I did. It’s become a top album of the year for me. This is the first song that reeled me in.

I'll join in

1. The Gods Must Be Crazy - Armand Hammer, billy woods, E L U C I D, El-P

2. Living Curfew - Aesop Rock feat. billy woods

I can see her coming, trundling down the block
Then stopped, picked a dead bird off the curb
Stuffed it in her bag
Teeth barely bared when she hurried past

Love Aesop Roock.... I'm still digesting this album.

Same here. I think it's better than his last one, Spirit World Field Guide, but it takes some getting used to. This track particularly appeals to me because of what billy woods does at the end of the track. It's the best elements of spoken word put to a beat. Aes gets out of the way and lets billy do his thing.

I agree Billy at the end is the best part of the track. Cool stuff.

Round 4 (#17)

Still Traffico - Seagull (Garage Edit)

Jangletastic! Like a peppier Dire Straits

Still Traffico are an alternative, post-punk band formed in London in 2023.

I must note that the Spotify link is incorrect. It has the regular studio version of Seagull and I listed the GARAGE EDIT which is far superior. Could that correction/substitution please be made?

Once again the below is the correct track. TIA
