WR Sterling Shepard, NYG (1 Viewer)

Giants WR Sterling Shepard will undergo an MRI on his injured toe and could miss upcoming games.

Shepard was ruled out at the start of the second half against the Bears in Week 2 after becoming hobbled with turf toe in the first half. Shepard had seen 10 targets through a game and a half. He was second on the Giants in wideout snaps. Darius Slayton and Golden Tate could become safer fantasy plays this week against the 49ers if Shepard is out.

This guy is a tease because he has talent and flashes it but just when you finally get comfortable starting him he gets hurt. Every year.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard (toe) is "unlikely" to play in Week 6 against Washington.

Shepard went on IR September 23, and according to NJ Advance Media's Zack Rosenblatt, he'll miss at least one more game. Darius Slayton and Golden Tate will remain the only fantasy viable Giants receivers. Slayton has a 26 percent target share over the past three games, while Tate's share sits at 19 percent. Slayton is a decent WR3 option this week against the Football Team. Tate should remain on fantasy benches.

Sterling Shepard (toe, IR) could return in Week 7 against the Eagles.

Shepard will miss his fourth straight game this week. It's possible he returns with the Giants playing on Thursday night in Week 7. Getting Shepard back should help a struggling Daniel Jones, who hasn't thrown a TD pass since the season opener.

Giants coach Joe Judge said Sterling Shepard's (toe, IR) status for Week 7 could "come down to a pre-game workout."

Judge said Shepard is "getting closer" and may be able to return Thursday night; that of course would entail Shepard being activated from injured reserve first. With Darius Slayton limited for Monday's walkthrough, fantasy players should monitor New York's injury reports leading up to Thursday's kick-off against the Eagles.

Giants designated WR Sterling Shepard (toe) to return from injured reserve.

Coach Joe Judge has already said Shepard will likely be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Eagles. Shepard did practice on Tuesday. Off to a slow start before going down in Week 2, Shepard's return would nevertheless provide a big boost for struggling QB Daniel Jones while eliminating what little remains of Golden Tate's fantasy value. Shepard would be a low-end WR4 for Week 7 if he gets the go-ahead.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard (toe) could play Thursday night against the Eagles.

USA Today's Art Stapleton said Shepard, who was activated from injured reserve on Tuesday, should be added to the Giants' active roster in the afternoon. He would then need to complete a pregame workout and the team's medical staff would need to sign off on him suiting up against Philadelphia on Thursday night. If active, Shepard is an iffy WR3 option who would siphon targets from Darius Slayton.

Interesting - still showing IR on MFL, so it's not making me activate him.  Maybe they won't update until he's added to the 53-man roster?

What are people thinking his upside is tonight? I was pretty high on him coming in to the year. The Eagles haven't been great against WR's.

It’s a wait and see week for me. Can’t see him playing >50% of the snaps or seeing more than a handful of targets.

Looks really good. 100%. Didn’t expect that at all after getting hurt so early in the year after no preseason and the rumors he might not even be activated tonight. He’s going to play a ton and probably lead the team in targets from this point on.

Sterling Shepard caught 6-of-8 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' Week 7 loss to the Eagles.

Playing for the first time since Week 2, Shepard led the Giants' wideouts in targets, finishing one behind Evan Engram for the team lead. His two-yard score with 6:17 remaining felt like it might be the game-winner — it put the Giants up 21-10 — but the football gods had other plans, as they often do with the Giants. Shepard roasted Darius Slay in the end zone. Although Golden Tate had some nice catches this evening, Shepard can be safely assumed ahead of him on the depth chart. Shepard will have some low-end WR3 appeal for next week's tough Monday night matchup with the Bucs.

Stat of the Night: Giants WR Sterling Shepard has now been targeted at least six times in 18 consecutive games (excluding Week 2 when he left hurt after 15 snaps)

Picked up Shep as a speculative add before the game and he looked spry yesterday. He can win with quickness and very precise route running, and instantly looked like the #1 receiver in this offense. Since he can play slot and outside we works well off the TE/whatever WR lines up on his side, which most times will be Golden Tate (Giants like isolating Slayton usually). I think his value will grow as top corners probably will gravitate to Slayton (that should change soon) since Jones had shown the most rapport with him.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard (toe) was limited during Thursday's practice.

USA Today's Art Stapleton said the team is likely being careful with Shepard, and that "there was no reaggravation of his toe injury" last week against the Eagles. His return to New York's lineup was a strong one, as he played 77 percent of the team's snaps and caught 6-of-8 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown against Philadelphia. He'll be a WR3 option against a tough Bucs secondary Monday night.

Sterling Shepard caught 8-of-10 targets for 74 yards in the Giants' Week 8 loss to the Bucs.

In two games since coming off I.R., Shepard has seen 18 targets, turning in 6-59-1 and 8-74 lines. The ceiling isn't high, but Shepard is a decent floor play as a WR3/4 in a bad offense ahead of a Week 9 date with Washington.

Sterling Shepard (toe, hip) remained "limited" on Thursday.

Despite the new hip ailment, Shepard's Week 10 status is not in doubt. He is settling in as a usage-based WR3, though Golden Tate's potential return for Sunday's game against Eagles could have Shepard seeing quite a bit of Darius Slay.

Sterling Shepard caught 6-of-6 passes for 47 yards in the Giants' Week 10 win over the Eagles.

It's a very classic Shepard receiving line. He's settled in as Daniel Jones' most reliable target, but Darius Slayton typically sees the deep shots making Shepard a lower-ceiling WR3/flex play in most matchups. His bankable target share is valuable even if ceiling games will be rare. The Giants have an excellent Week 12 matchup against the Bengals when they come out of their upcoming bye.

Sterling Shepard caught 7-of-8 targets for 64 yards in the Giants' Week 12 win over the Bengals.

Shepard has now caught at least six passes in 6-of-7 2020 appearances. He has yet to reach 75 yards, but Shepard has established a safe WR3 floor. He has a dream Week 13 matchup in the Seahawks, though Daniel Jones' (hamstring) health is a wild card. If it's Colt McCoy under center, Shepard would struggle for top-30 upside even in such a golden spot.

Sterling Shepard caught 4-of-7 targets for 51 yards in the Giants' Week 15 loss to the Browns.

Shepard did exactly what everyone signed up for. He's a reliable target in the intermediate portion of the field but rarely pops for big games. Shepard has been between 22 and 74 yards in every game this season. An uninspiring ceiling play, Shepard will have to battle to establish his floor in Week 16 with the Ravens up next. The Giants' go-to receiver needs Daniel Jones to be active to have a chance as a WR4/5.

pssst.... don't let BINGBING see this.

Sterling Shepard was limited with a rib issue on Wednesday.

The Giants are limping into Week 17 offensively, with quarterback Daniel Jones and Evan Engram both dealing with injuries. Thankfully Shepard turned nine catches into 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 16 and should be able to go this Sunday, barring a setback.

Sterling Shepard caught 7-of-9 targets for 113 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Broncos.

Shepard was Daniel Jones' top target, a carryover from the Giants' preseason. His touchdown was the only highlight of the game, with Shepard breaking a pair of tackles on a 37-yard catch and run. Shepard's role in the short pass game could take a hit as Saquon Barkley gets healthy, but he'll remain a WR3 for a matchup with Washington in Week 2.

Sterling Shepard caught 9-of-10 targets for 94 yards in the Giants' Week 2 loss to Washington.

Operating as the Giants' WR1 to begin the year, Shepard will enter Week 3 having turned 19 targets into 16/207/1 in one five-day period. Of course, both games were Giants losses, while big-dollar free agent addition Kenny Golladay was already visibly frustrated with Daniel Jones on Thursday evening. It nevertheless makes too much sense for Shepard not to lead the G-Men in target. He is the perfect conservative option for a conservative quarterback taking plays from a conservative offensive coordinator working for a conservative coach employed by a conservative general manager cashing checks from a conservative owner. Shepard will have WR2 juice for Week 3 against the horrid Falcons.

He really looks great out there...with him and slayton i would really regret spending the money on golladay.  Could have spent that on oline instead

There is more than enough talent on this field without Golladay that they could've spent FA money on pass rushing and O-line, and the draft pick too. Gettleman gotta go- I don't think Shepard was ever even his pick.

That said, I'm stoked to have Shepard as a WR3 in half and full PPR. He really is the most reliable guy on the team and Jones needs that. Barkley, Engram, Slayton, and Golladay keep dropping passes man, Shepard has like a 80% catch rate right now.

I should have picked up Shepherd before the game.   Congrats to those of you that have him on your rosters.  He’s a WR3 easily.

Shepard is a good player, plain and simple. The only thing that has held him back are injuries and situation (horrible coaching and QBs). If he stays healthy he is going to be a consistent producer in PPR all year although that is a big if, given his tendency to get nicked up. On the positive, I think Galloway actually has helped him because he is more effective in the slot role.  Also, I think Danny Jones is now an average NFL QB--not a great one by any means--but average. And that's an improvement.

Missed the boat here and ignored stuff I shouldn’t have...kicking myself....he has developed....he was soooooo freakin cheap....dont get me wrong, most weeks he would have been maybe a coin toss at WR3/flex or something and I may not have ever felt like starting him “with confidence” because of NYG/Jones....but he is going to bail out some WR strapped teams....I would have liked to at least play keep away from other owners and had him on my bench instead of other starting lineups....but I missed the boat...

Sterling Shepard caught 2-of-3 targets for 16 yards in the Giants' Week 3 loss to the Falcons.

Shepard didn't get much going before exiting in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. He did not return to the game. His practice reports will be important to monitor this week for his Week 4 availability. If he can play against the Saints, he'll be in FLEX consideration, having shown a strong connection with Jones to begin the season.

Sterling Shepard (hamstring) is not practicing Wednesday.

Darius Slayton (hamstring) was also absent Wednesday. Shepard played 23 snaps, catching 2-of-3 targets for 16 yards, before exiting Week 3 against Atlanta. With both Shepard and Slayton hurt, the Giants ran out a three-wide set of Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Collin Johnson last week. C.J. Board was the fourth wideout. Shepard's week isn't off to a good start.

STERLING SHEPARD WR, NEW YORK GIANTS

Saints declared WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring) out for Week 4 against the Saints.

Darius Slayton is also out for Week 4, which should mean significant playing time for Collin Johnson and Kadarius Toney. If Kenny Golladay's hip allows the Giants will lean on him heavily as their only active starting wide receiver. After leading the Giants in routes in Week 3, Saquon Barkley should be expected to have a big role in the receiving game once game. He looks like a strong play, despite the Giants low implied team total as seven point underdogs.

He didn’t practice all week; has there been any reports on the severity of the injury? Is it possible he can return next week or is this a 2-3 week absence?

Any word on injury length? Was thinking about offering a trade for him but would be nice to know how long the wait is.

Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton were working on the side w trainers during early part of practice. Shepard in particular looked good. Would not be totally shocked if he is ready for Sunday.

Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton are suited up for today’s full pads practice. A big step forward, now we’ll see how much they do.

Ralph Vacchiano

Judge said it will be a “ramp-up day” for WRs Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton today. He expects to have “a pretty strong feeling” about their availability for Sunday based on what they can do today.

WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring) and S Jabrill Peppers (hamstring) all in uniform at practice Thursday but worked with trainers. Were moving pretty well. Wouldn’t rule them out just yet. #giants

Sterling Shepard (hamstring) is out for Week 5 against the Cowboys.

Darius Slayton (hamstring) is also out for Week 5. Shepard's and Slayton's injuries will open up playing time for Kadarius Toney and John Ross. Toney was impressive in his Week 4 starting debut and will look to build on his success in a difficult matchup with the Cowboys. If Toney succeeds, it's possible that he eats into Shepard's snaps going forward. Or, more likely, pushes Shepard into an out-wide role in some 3WR sets. Shepard is at his best in the slot and the emergence of the Giants' first round pick would not be a positive development for his fantasy value.
