WR Sterling Shepard, NYG (3 Viewers)

Sterling Shepard caught 10-of-14 targets for 76 yards in the Giants' Week 6 loss to the Rams.

Kadarius Toney entered the game with an ankle injury that he re-aggravated on the first drive. He did not return after leaving and C.J. Board, who would have taken on extra snaps, also left the game. With Kenny Golladay and Darius Slayton inactive, Shepard was playing alongside Dante Pettis for the bulk of the loss. It shouldn't come as a surprise that he racked up the second-most targets he's seen in a game. Shepard was off to a hot start at the beginning of the year suffering a hamstring injury that sidelined him for a pair of games. As long as a few of New York's receivers remain sidelined for Week 7, Shepard will be in line for a monstrous workload and WR2 fantasy numbers.

Any concerns for Sterling Shepard in week 7 after showing up on Thursday as a Q tag (hamstring)? Giants certainly decimated by injuries at WR. Shepard shows up with high ratings because of it. Someone has to get targets and I would imagine he'll get double digits, but are we trusting him in line ups with the latest news?

Yes, following along and I'm not sure what direction this will go - trending to play and do well it looks like. ROS Sterling Shepard falls into low end WR 3 / top end WR 4 - basically bye week / Flex or injury fill in.

Disclaimer: BUF D is on the waiver wire and it certainly would be nice to set them and forget it for the ROS. It would mean dropping Shepard and playing T Higgins this week. Would you do it?

DraftKings - stick with Shepard $5,600 or pivot

I would take Higgins over Shepard for ROS. However, I wouldn’t say the Bills are a set and forget DST, unless you think the Titans are truly an elite offense.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano said it "sounds like" Sterling Shepard (hamstring) suffered a setback on Thursday.

Shepard, who has a fraught history with soft tissue injuries and missed two games this season with the hamstring issue, was limited during Thursday's practice and could be on the wrong side of questionable entering Week 7 against the Panthers. Shepard was set to resume his target hog role in the Giants offense with Kadarius Toney (ankle) sidelined this week. Shepard saw 14 targets in last week's blowout loss to the Rams. Darius Slayton, fighting his own hamstring issues, could be the team's No. 1 wideout if Shepard is sidelined.

Speaking after Thursday's return to practice, Sterling Shepard (hamstring) said he is "feeling good now."

Shepard also confirmed his most recent hamstring injury was to the opposite leg of the one that slowed him earlier this season. It's not exactly a positive that Shepard has already had hamstring pulls to both legs with more than half the season to go, but he will be active on Monday against the Chiefs' porous defense as we are unsure of Kadarius Toney (ankle) and Kenny Golladay's (knee) status. Shepard will be a usage-based top-30 option with a good matchup.

Sterling Shepard (hamstring) was limited for Friday's practice.

Kadarius Toney (ankle) and Shepard were limited for Friday's practice, which suggests both will be available for Week 8 against the Chiefs. Shepard has accrued at least a 24% share in every full game he's played this year and remains a high-floor WR2/3 if active.

Sterling Shepard (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 8 against the Chiefs.

The Giants will be without Kenny Golladay (knee), but should get Shepard and Kadarius Toney (questionable, ankle) back. Shepard led the Giants in targets in Week 6 before getting injured in practice last week and should continue to see a heavy workload against a Chiefs secondary allowing the league's fifth-most passing yards.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports Sterling Shepard (hamstring) is expected to play Monday night against the Chiefs.

Kadarius Toney (ankle) is also expected to suit up. The return of both will be a huge boost to Daniel Jones and the passing attack, but Toney's presence puts a damper on Shepard's fantasy expectations. That said, both are great plays in what should be a shootout with the Chiefs on Monday night.

Injured quad apparently. This guy's legs are giving him no breaks this season. Last year it was concussions that kept him out correct?

Sterling Shepard (quad strain) is expected to "miss some time".

The Giants play the Raiders in Week 9 and then go on bye, so it's possible Shepard's absence will only be for one game. The Giants face the Buccaneers in Week 11, in a matchup that would set up very well for Shepard if he's healthy. It's possible the Shepard's timeline puts that game well out of reach, however. Fantasy managers should have a fill-in option in place for at least the next two weeks. It's likely we see more of Kadarius Toney in the slot while Shepard is out, which should help the electric rookie rack up receptions.

Sterling Shepard (quad) returned to practice Friday.

Shepard was absent from practice to open the week but made a surprising return to the field as a limited participant for Friday's session. Even if he's unable to get cleared in time for Monday night, this development ensures Shepard is only days (rather than weeks) away from playing. He remains the better option to stash over Kadarius Toney since it's Shepard who has led the team in targets in every game he's finished this year.

Sterling Shepard (quad) has been ruled out for Week 11 against the Bucs.

There was hope Shepard would play after he returned to practice Friday. Even with the Giants coming off a bye and an extra day to get cleared, he'll miss another game. It's an upgrade to Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay's matchups against an injured Bucs secondary. Shepard's practice participation this week has him on track for a Week 12 return.

Sterling Shepard (quad) remained sidelined on Thursday.

Shepard was supposedly going to practice this week, but instead he has been DNP, as usual. Even a "limited" day on Friday would put Shepard on track to return against the Eagles, but considering his injury history, both recent and otherwise, we are not holding our breath. If Shepard manages to suit up, he will be a low-end WR3 at risk of re-injury.

Nov 25, 2021, 1:48 PM ET

ESPN's Jordan Raanan said Sterling Shepard (quad) likely won't play in Week 12 against the Eagles.

The eternally-injured Shepard is set to miss yet another game. Kadarius Toney is expected to be sidelined as well. Without Toney and Shepard, Evan Engram and Kenny Golladay should get a few more looks against the Eagles. Golladay is a volume-based WR2/3 without Toney and Shepard and Engram is a process-oriented streaming option in 12-team leagues.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports there is "hope" Sterling Shepard (quad) returns for Week 13 against the Dolphins.

Pharoh Cooper led the Giants in slot routes (22, 95%) without Shepard in Week 12 but would take a backseat if the veteran were able to return. Shepard has accrued a 24% share in every full game he's played this year and remains a high-floor WR2/3 if active.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Sterling Shepard (quad) is expected to play in Week 14 against the Chargers.

Quad and hamstring injuries have limited Shepard to five games this year. He left early in two of those contests, leaving his full-game total at three. In that trio of games, Shepard was targeted 33 times. It's unclear if he'll play the same role in his first game back from a five-week absence but he would rank as a WR2/3 if we knew he was guaranteed a full complement of snaps.

Giants have asked Sterling Shepard (Achilles) to take a significant pay cut.

Shepard tore his Achilles in Week 15 and his availability for much of the 2022 season is up in the air. The 29-year-old is due $8.475 million in 2022. SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports that he could be asked to take something closer to the league minimum, which would clear $7M in cap space. Vacchiano expects the Giants to cut Shepard if he declines the pay cut. The Giants are actively trying to clear cap space, having been left with a smorgasbord of bloated contracts by former general manager Dave Gettleman. If Shepard stays with the Giants, it's unclear how big his role will be when healthy, assuming Kadarius Toney takes over slot duties to begin the season.

The Athletic's Dan Duggan reports Sterling Shepard (Achilles) hopes to be ready for the beginning of training camp.

That would be an aggressive timeline after Shepard went down on Dec. 19, though it would be longer than it took Cam Akers to return. Akers is half a decade younger, of course. The G-Men wanted to slash Shepard's $8.5 million salary to $1.1 million, but the veteran wideout has understandably refused. They are trying to reach a compromise before free agency next week. The fact that Shepard has yet to be cut suggests the sides are hopeful of figuring something out. We will know soon enough.

The Giants and Sterling Shepard have agreed to a restructured contract.

It's reportedly a one-year agreement. Shepard had been signed through 2023. Rehabbing a torn Achilles' tendon, the oft-injured slot man was due an untenable $8.5 million. Reports had the G-Men hoping to slash Shepard's salary to $1.1 million. They probably settled somewhere in the $2-$3 million range. Although Shepard is targeting a training camp return, that would still be on the quick end for a torn Achilles, especially for a 29-year-old. Fantasy managers should believe Shepard being a 2022 WR4 option when they see it.

Really ridiculous work by his agent. One of the most awful in recent years.

Instead of making 9mil for one year, let's agree to (what looks like) nine for four years.

What happened? Where's the NFLPA here?

Unless his rehab is going poorly, this is totally ridiculous

Schoen made it clear that he was looking to cut $40mm in cap this year.   Cutting Shepard would have gotten $4.5mm in relief.   Coming off a ruptured achilles, I don't think he'd have many options in free agency.     Giants had the leverage here.

Sterling Shepard (Achilles) has resumed jogging.

Shepard started jogging last week for the first time since his Week 15 injury. "I'm feeling good, taking it day by day," Shepard told Josina Anderson. "Out at practice everyday taking mental reps, balls off of the jugs." Shepard said there was "no pressure" on a return date, meaning the Giants don't have one yet. GM Joe Schoen has previously expressed hope that Shepard will be ready by August. It certainly seems like the reserve/PUP list could be in play, which would cost Shepard the first six games of the season. We will get a better idea of his situation next month.

Sterling Shepard caught 2-of-4 targets for 71 yards and one touchdown in the Giants' Week 1 win over the Titans.

Returning from a torn Achilles that limited him to just seven games last season, Shepard turned in the biggest play of the day for the Giants. The veteran receiver broke free behind the Titan's secondary midway through the second quarter and turned a Daniel Jones deep ball into a 65-yard score to give the Giants their second touchdown of the quarter. Shepard was mostly limited in this one, but the explosive play was good to see from the talented wideout who has battled a myriad of injuries throughout his career. Shepard went undrafted in leagues throughout much of this offseason, but should be a popular waiver wire target after this one. We'd like to see more targets out of him, but he's a low-end WR3 against the Panthers next week.

Sterling Shepard caught 5-of-10 targets for 49 yards in the Giants' Week 3 loss to the Cowboys before being carted off with a left knee injury in the fourth quarter.

Shepard was running a route at maybe 50% speed against no coverage on the final play of the Giants' final drive, and his left knee appeared to just give way. He immediately crumpled to the ground, and the cart came out to scoop him off the turf. It had the appearance of another severe injury for the oft-injured Shepard. His 10 targets in this one easily paced the team. Someone from the Kadarius Toney, Kenny Golladay, and Darius Slayton doghouse group is going to have to step up for the Giants. Wan'Dale Robinson (knee) should also return soon.

Jordan Raanan @JordanRaanan

Giants WR Sterling Shepard suffered a serious left knee injury, according to multiple sources. Final diagnosis comes Tuesday but season is likely over.

"It's tough. I'm not even going to lie. It's hard not to get choked up about it," Darius Slayton said of seeing the injury.

Sterling Shepard tore his ACL in Week 3 against the Cowboys and is out for the rest of the season.

Shepard went down in a heap on the final play of New York's Monday night loss to the Cowboys. He was carted off and later diagnosed with another season-ending injury. Shepard's absence from the Giants offense will open up plenty of targets for the team's remaining receivers, including Richie James, who has functioned as the team's WR2 in the early going. Kadarius Toney, if he can come back from a hamstring issue and earn the trust of Giants coaches, could slot in as the team's new top wideout with Shepard sidelined.

Poor Daniel Jones. Literally has nothing at WR. They should trade for one if they really want to see if he's the long term answer. Don't know how you make that call with the WRs he has thus far in his career.

Man, tough breaks for this guy. He was literally just walking when it happened.
Yeah, I saw that, just slowing down to a jog after running. I have very little knowledge of medicine, but that seems so crazy to me that a serious injury could happen at that moment. Like that college basketball player who snapped his leg just by landing on his foot in a normal-looking way years ago.

The Athletic's Dan Duggan reports Sterling Shepard's contract was automatically voided, making him a free agent.

Shepard was under contract for 2023 but a stipulation in his contract automatically voided the final year of his deal three days after the Super Bowl. The clause was added last offseason when Shepard agreed to a restructured contract, so this was always the exit plan for the G-Men. The Giants will absorb a $4.3 million hit in dead cap to part ways with the oft-injured Shepard, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 last season. In seven seasons with the team, Shepard caught 362 passes for 4,038 yards and 22 touchdowns, dealing with a myriad of injuries along the way. Over the last two years, Shepard has appeared in just 10 regular season games and hasn't played in more than 12 games since 2018. When healthy, he's a serviceable WR2 who's capable of playing both out wide and in the slot. He'll likely land elsewhere on a one-year prove-it deal this offseason.

Why bring Sterling Shepard back? Because Shep is absolutely dirt cheap to keep and was a good WR when he was healthy. I mean I don't know the contract details, but it couldn't be more than a heavily incentive-laden 4 or 5 million million dollar deal. The guy worked hard and definitely is a presence of leadership in the locker room. Plus, Giants know he's Daniel Jones' type of WR and can play inside and outside (concerns about Wan'Dale being slot-only).

Basically, Shep would be super Richie James ... which doesn't sound like a lot but it might mean they let Richie James walk now.

He accepted a lot less pay before last season and basically took one for the team.
Contracts aren't guaranteed and he can get cut or traded but...last year's move probably means he retires a Giant

Makes sense with that contract...he is pretty good but can't stay on the field...the Giants WR room is not good and with a thin FA class there is only so much they can do this offseason...if they can squeeze a year out of him that will help bridge to the future.

Giants WR Sterling Shepard (knee) was cleared to run routes at OTAs.

Shepard, who tore his ACL in Week 3, is returning from his second major surgery after tearing his Achilles in 2021. The Giants limited Shepard to non-contact drills but this is a good first step for the injury-prone wideout. Re-signed to a minimum deal in March, Shepard will compete for targets on a crowded Giants' depth chart if healthy for Week 1.

Giants activated WR Sterling Shepard from the active/PUP list.

Shepard was sidelined for the first week of training camp but is expected to return to the field now that he’s activated. The oft-injured receiver has been battling back from a torn ACL that ended his 2022 campaign, which marks his second major surgery since 2021 (Achilles). Shepard has been a serviceable slot receiver when active. He’s averaged 4.8 receptions per game to go with 53.8 yards per game and was averaging eight targets per game before going down last season. He’s an interesting late-round flier in PPR leagues but comes with obvious injury risk. Veteran slot receiver Jamison Crowder was also activated from the active/PUP list.
