WR Jonathan Mingo, CAR (1 Viewer)

NFL Rookie Watch @NFLRookieWatxh
Jonathan Mingo is reportedly a name that is “picking up steam” among NFL teams and scouts. Many scouts believe Mingo could hear his name called as early as the beginning of the second round. Several coaches and scouts believe Mingo’s stature (6’2”, 220 pounds) resembles that of AJ Brown and Alshon Jeffery. Mingo has met privately with the Falcons, Ravens, Panthers, Bears, Cowboys, Patriots, and Steelers

6'2" and 220 pounds with this in his bag?!?

Jonathan Mingo is pretty interesting!

Hayden Winks @HaydenWinks
Mingo didn't breakout until his senior year, but it's worth noting that he had 8-113-2 and 6-136-1 games before breaking his foot in practice going into Week 4 of his junior year. If that didn't happen, who knows where we would've been with him.

In some ways, Mingo seems like the poor man's Deebo Samuel, so I'm not surprised to see an article claiming he'd fit with SF.

He's a 5th round prospect in my eyes, who probably needs to contribute on special teams to ensure a roster spot.

There is a case he might be a better prospect if he were a RB, ala Cordarrelle Patterson, and what I also believe would be true of Laviska Shenault.

Seems like the perfect 4th round rookie pick in a dynasty league. Worth keeping an eye on if he lands in a plus situation.

I don't think I've ever seen such a dichotomy in reading about a player's route running. It's as if the people watching film have absolutely no idea what they're doing, which is why I don't watch film.

He looks really good on the highlights. Like, fantastic.

His production isn't what you'd expect if you saw the highlights before the numbers. Seems like he's very inconsistent. 7/13 games, he went under 60 yards. He had nearly 30% of his total yards in 1 game against Vanderbilt.

If he does wind up going 5th round, I imagine he's going 4th round of rookie drafts. I'll probably take a flier at that point.

He an exceptional athlete, but..............., , early declare no (4th year), early breakout age no ( 3rd year), 25.6% production percentage of his team's offense, overall production meh. To me these are huge red flags, even with his awesome athletic profile. It's easy to fall in love with someone like this. I wouldn't touch him until 3rd round or later in fantasy drafts.

Multiple NFL scouts reportedly believe Jonathan Mingo could end up being the “best” WR to come out of this year’s draft. Many scouts also believe Mingo has the potential to be one of the “most productive” offensive players from this year’s draft. Mingo has drawn many comparisons to AJ Brown by NFL talent evaluators, given his size (6’2”, 220 pounds). Mingo is currently projected to be a day two pick

"Ole Miss receiver Jonathan Mingo is a hot name right now, and he's looking like a top-50 pick. I'd stop short of saying he's heading toward the first round, but I don't expect him to wait long Friday to hear his name." - @McShay13 #NFLDraft

Yeah, the success rate using those measures is not good. I have no 3rd rounder this year, or a 4th I think so I would have to take him in the second. I am not doing that.

I have a list of 10 players that all comp to Jonathan Mingo in terms of size, speed, and production since 2005. Of those 10 players: 8 were Day 3 picks (5 R6+) 1 was undrafted 1 was a 1st rounder (Kevin White)

Panthers selected Ole Miss WR Jonathan Mingo with the No. 39 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Mingo (6’2/220) is the latest athletic receiver to come from Ole Miss – the program that brought us DK Metcalf and A.J. Brown. With good size and 4.46 speed, you won’t find many receivers more athletic than Mingo (9.97 relative athletic score). A broken foot limited Mingo to six games in 2021, but he rebounded for a career year in 2022, posting a 51-861-5 receiving line while averaging 16.9 YPR – although it should be noted 247 of those yards came against an awful Vanderbilt secondary. Despite a five-game stretch where he played almost exclusively from the slot, Mingo lined up wide for 75.3 percent of his snaps in college and was used primarily out wide at the Senior Bowl. Lacking consistent hands or true breakaway speed could limit him to a slot role, but teams may attempt to try him out wide early on. In Carolina, he'll be the favorite to become Bryce Young's top target, though his big-play profile may make Mingo a somewhat inconsistent fantasy option. NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe said Panthers brass believes Mingo will be a better pro than he was college player.

He's a lot more interesting all of a sudden.

Elite athlete with some concerns. Carolina got their franchise QB and then got a guy for him to throw it to early 2nd round. He'll get a ton of opportunity early on. Being tied to Bryce Young for a long time seems pretty good.

They can always draft a 1st round WR in the next couple of years. But as it stands, he came out really well.

The Xs and Os with Greg Cosell and Doug Farrar: Greg's six favorite draft picks!

Excerpt:

Greg: “I watched him super-early in the process — I may have watched his tape before I went to the Super Bowl. And I came away saying to myself, ‘This guy is a really good receiver.’ He has size, he has stride length, he has a physical style, he’s competitive, and you can line him up anywhere. Stylistically, he reminded me of [Eagles receiver] A.J. Brown. And in some ways, because he did line up in the backfield at times, and he was clearly formation-versatile, there were times I thought of Deebo Samuel. He could be used in the context of an offense in a similar fashion.”

Mingo or Mims?
Mims would be my pick. Better player, betting landing spot in my eyes. Mingo felt like a sizeable reach to me, and while I guess Jeudy is probably a bigger #1 roadblock than anyone Carolina has, I think Thielen, Chark, Marshall, maybe even Shenault could all play roles.

I think he has one of the higher upsides at receiver in this class and love his pairing with Young. Maybe it is the Ole Miss uni that has me seeing a mini AJ Brown.

Size and athleticism, I can see it. The one big trump card AJB had was just how productive he was. He was making an impact as a true freshman. By the time he left Ol' Miss, he had two 1000 yard seasons. Mingo didn't 400 yards until his senior year (yes he did have some injuries). Mingo did this competing against Elijah Moore. AJB did this competing against Elijah Moore, DK Metcalf, Evan Engram, Quincy Enunwa and Demarcus Lodge.

I don’t disagree that there are warts, but I would argue the receiver position in this class is full of them. I don’t think he is a shoe-in by any means, but I believe he has a higher upside than most at the position this year.

I can't argue with that
