ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Steelers WR James Washington has demanded a trade.
The 2018 second round draft pick "requested a trade based on his limited playtime last season and so far this preseason," per Schefter. Washington, 25, has no path to consistent playing time as long as Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and JuJu Smith-Schuster are healthy. Washington on Thursday night against Dallas went catchless on two targets. His trade request comes hours after Dez Bryant advocated for Washington on Twitter, saying, "If you are a team and want a top tier WR trade for James Washington….. thank me later." Don't expect the Steelers to let go of Washington this summer: Scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, he provides valuable wideout depth for Pittsburgh as a deep ball specialist. Washington would be interesting for fantasy purposes if he lands on a team thin at wide receiver.
