Piano bar is the ####See "Phoenix" at the Apple Bar at New York New York. They play 5 nights a week starting at 10:30. One of the best rock cover bands evah - trust me on this one..
this made me laughI went to Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay when I was in Vegas last month. Very nice. First off, they have a lil television tuned to ESPN at every booth. The waitress was smokin hot. Really, really hot. Like it must take a lot of integrity for her to live in Vegas and be a waitress instead of a stripper. I got the kobe beef burger. It's $16 plain, and an additional $1 for every add-on. Can get pricey. But it was very tasty. Nice to get a rare burger. Fries were shoestring and crispy, just the way I like them. I'll probably go back next time I'm in Vegas.
For late night breakfast after poker, I love Peppermill on the strip across from Circus Circus. It's like Denny's but with better food and atmosphere. I wish there was a late-night place like it for breakfast around where I live.
I'm shuked here.I can't decide if this means fat chicks, or that I should bring some tortilla chips and salsaVelveeta oozing from the pool.
If by February, you mean Superbowl weekend, it will tough to get a comp'd record without a previous record of big play at the casino.:sehorn:(for a trip in February 2008)Does anyone have personal experience getting a casino rate or comp for a room? What did you have to do to get it?

I had never been to Aladdin, and I was confused to see people bash it. It must have changed a lot then because PH seems really nice to me. I think I'd almost compare it to the Borgata in AC(although poker room doesn't compare). Good location too.To update a little - The Aladdin is now Planet Hollywood. Had a comped room for the first week of the NFL season through another website and it was great. Off strip - In Summerlin, the Red Rock Casino is great and offers many contests for NFL Sundays. It is part of the Stations group. Many locals hang out there, but the scenery was great. Very laid back, and had a huge sportsbook.
These were my rankings....they still hold....but I was recently in a room at the Sahara and was reminded what a ####ty room in Vegas is like vs. a nice room.HOTELS
Ranked in order of MY preference and $ -
TheHotel - The nicest rooms on the strip (other than the 4 Seasons) attached to Mandalay Bay. $$$$
The Palms* – Off Strip, but so what. Nice casino, nice rooms, great clubs (Moon, Playboy Club, Ghost Bar, The Mint). Best “vibe” in Vegas. $$$$
The Wynn* – Upscale, but still maintaining a “trendy” feel – GREAT restaurants. $$$$$
The Hard Rock* – The Palms East. Smaller casino. Clubs not as cool as The Palms. $$$$
Mandalay Bay* - Good casino, nice rooms, great restraints – best of “old guard” properties. $$$1/2
Bellagio* - The Wynn with an “older” feel. $$$$$
Those are your top tier choices
NYNY* - relatively inexpensive (particularly during the week), clean, some nice restaurants. $$$
Venetian* - Rooms are very nice, but casino is antiseptic (Monte Carlo is similar). $$$$
Rio* - 10 years ago this WAS the Palms. Everyone now and wow stayed here. Decent rooms large casino. Prince has a club there (I have yet to go). $$$
Treasure Island*/Mirage* – 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Very similar properties. Casinos are packed. Decent location. Ok food to be had. $$$
MGM*- HUGE casino (too big), restaurants have improved, rooms are decent, because there are so many people there, the skank factor is pretty high $$$$
Aladdin – Just not a great vibe there – hard to describe. Nothing horrible about it, just middle of the road (location wise too). $$$$
Monte Carlo* - antiseptic. The brew pub is probably the highlight. Rooms are very average. $$$
Paris – I like the casino – could be too small for some. Mon Ami Gabi is one of the best restaurants on the strip from a people watching perspective (Bellagio watershow too) $$$
Luxor* - relatively cheap, air filtration system is not great, rooms are kinda cool the higher you get. $$1/2
Those are your mid tier choices. Unless you are on a SEVERE budget, I would not stay at any of the following choices:
Caesars* - everything about this place reeks OLD (especially the cocktail waitresses) – just not my cup of tea. Forum Shops are great though. $$$$
Sahara – Read Caesars – they are looking to implode this sucker and rebuild...that should be an indicator. $$$
Ballys – You are coming to Vegas, why stay at the Holiday Inn? Yuck. $$$
The Flamingo – some people swear by this place. I think it is disgusting. $$$
If you are staying at any of the following, I feel sorry for you.
Barbary Coast$$, Tropicana $, Excalibur$*,
Riviera###, Circus Circus$*, Stratosphere$$, Imperial Palace$.
They are dirty (Excalibur, Circus Circus, Imperial Palace, Stratosphere), old (all but the Excalibur...and that is even getting old), have thin walls (Excalibur, Circus Circus), or are just plain disgusting. Too many nice places available to stay at these rat traps.
The Red Rock*$$$$
Green Valley Station$$$$
The Marriott*$$$$$
The first two are “locals versions” of the Palms/Hard Rock. They are not cheap, they are way off the strip, but if you have to stay at any one of the three you will be impressed.
The Sahara is old, cramped, dated (even for being old), the cocktail waitresses are putrid, the drinks are small. It is a dump
If by pay you mean grease a buddy $20 to get in a club without standing in a line - yeah, I do that. If by not approve, you mean I roll my eyes that people travel all the way to Vegas to spend time in dumps with talent that is "sub-sub", then yeah, I do...but understand some people are more comfortable in that sorta environment.Glad you had a good time.Posted in another thread, but a quick rundown of some downtown feedback from this past weekend:
Now, it's still the East end of Fremont so don't expect you won't see some shady characters. We had a late night snack on Saturday night and sat next to, and had a length conversation with, an authentic American pimp. Again, for me, it's that kind of Fremont experience that I love. _4_ still won't approve as he pays to hang out with the "A" list celebs but things are much better down there than they have been in years (decades?) with the highlights being Brass on Friday night and The Griffin.
Oh yeah - We also went into the club upstairs at the Nugget. It was pretty lame. Only a $5 cover and the bartenders and go-go dancers were hot (and friendly) but the talent was sub, sub-par and the DJ sucked balls. The balcony overlooking Fremont below the giant Vegas cowboy, was a cool place to catch a drink but don't plan on spending much time there.
Way to be selective about what I posted.Regarding what you highlighted, perhaps you didn't notice the last part of that sentence:If by pay you mean grease a buddy $20 to get in a club without standing in a line - yeah, I do that. What I was speaking of in general was:The balcony overlooking Fremont below the giant Vegas cowboy, was a cool place to catch a drink but don't plan on spending much time there
Brass - Upstairs lounge/club. We stumbled in there at about 3:00 AM on Friday and the place was packed with local young talent. There were a couple of decent DJs (techno/dance), drinks were $4 and strong and, oh yeah, there was no cover. The place had a great, friendly vibe and is well worth checking out after hours. We passed by on Saturday and nothing was going on so the locals scene must move elsewhere. Someone else will need to check it out after hours on a Friday and see if that's a regular thing.
The Griffin - Hole in the wall lounge/bar even further East on Fremont towards the El Cortez (which has had a bunch of money sunk into it recently - it's still not the strip, but it's not nearly the janky place it used to be - more on that later). Anyway, we went in there a couple nights after hours and it was packed with people - most of them young locals. No music or DJs, but, again, an awesome late night scene
You have been annointed the king of that end of the strip in my eyes. I defer to you. I only answered that which was directed.I mean it when I say I'm glad you had a good time. I paid nothing to jump the line getting into the Cathouse. $20 tip to jump the line and get into Moon and the Playboy Club. Zero to get into Spearmint. That said, I am pretty sure I paid more for drinks than you had to. But to me, a bit more for amenities is worth it.....Way to be selective about what I posted. If by pay you mean grease a buddy $20 to get in a club without standing in a line - yeah, I do that. where is this located?Del Friscos is my favorite restaurant in Vegas, hit it every time I'm there.Other than that I'm totally fried from being there this weekend and having my sunday night flight delayed 4hrs. Once I can form full thoughts again I'll pipe in more here.
About a block north of Flamingo on Paradise....it's good...but you have to cab it there unless you have a car. Plenty of good steak places on the strip.where is this located?Del Friscos is my favorite restaurant in Vegas, hit it every time I'm there.Other than that I'm totally fried from being there this weekend and having my sunday night flight delayed 4hrs. Blow big sums of cash over a long period of time. Your free $100 steak dinner will actually only cost you about $3,000.so how does one go about getting a room comped and other freebies?
Thanks, but I got Hooters for $35 a night. Great location (I like that end of the strip), and we're not too picky on room quality. Anyone ever stay there? I spent an hour or two in the casino one night playing video poker and watching a decent cover band.Disco, I got an add that the Orleans has $30 rooms on 4/29 and 4/30 if you use the code Q0308HF. The 0s are zeroes. Pretty nice place to stay for that price.
I stayed there for a bachelor party, nice little boutique casino, small poker room with only a few tables. Food at the Hooters bar is cheaper in Vegas then in nyc. The quality of the girls working there was not bad. Surprisingly it's not all guys staying there, women have smartened up and stay there thinking there will be a good ratio of guys to them. Thanks, but I got Hooters for $35 a night. Vegas.com has a section for show tickets. Do a sort on "price" and there are a ton of FREE shows. Is there a nightlife schedule somewhere that shows what's going on in all the lounges and piano bars each night? Thought I saw something before, but all I can find now doesn't seem to be current.I still need to see one of the midget KISS cover bands.
Thanks. I was looking at that but thought it might not be current since one of the first shows I looked at mentioned being dark Nov 22, 2006. A second look and it seems to be exactly what I was looking for. So far my short list is "Purple Reign" and "Fat Elvis".Vegas.com has a section for show tickets. I wanna go back.
It'll always be the San Remo to me. :wistful:Alias said:I stayed there for a bachelor party, nice little boutique casino, small poker room with only a few tables.
