Tarik Cohen - RB - CHI (2 Viewers)

Ummmmm because you called it hindsight when, at least with regards to me, it certainly was not.
Ummm I think everyone saw what you saw - it's not rocket science. The Bears drafted a back, signed another one (who they aren't using now but whatever), so there was certainly a risk that Cohen would regress in terms of production.

I think though that it was pretty uncertain how the work was going to be divided up and there was certainly a case to be made that Cohen's role as basically a WR (which occurred in week 1 if you recall) would be minimally impacted by the additions, assuming the Bears continued to make Cohen a focal point (you know, rational coaching and all that). Plenty of us didn't trust Nagy to do this, as evidenced by the last playoff game last year. The Nagy quote though about 'using him too much' was about having him do too many different things, which isn't quite the same.

Cohen has actually been on the field for a higher percentage of snaps this year so far so the presence of Montgomery hasn't impacted his playing time negatively, which I think not many people realise.

I read everyone saw what I saw and stopped reading. My comments weren't hindsight. According to you everyone knew what was going to happen. So not sure why you called it hindsight. Not going to argue for the sake of arguing and you're not making a lot of sense so Have a great day.

Fine, it's not 'hindsight' then, does it really matter? Just queried why you were taking a victory lap on this since it seemed very possible that this could be the outcome.

If you planted your flag a month ago and I came in here and said it's easy in hindsight to say that now. You wouldn't want to clear that up?

For those sitting on him right now. Wait till he has a blow up game (he's to good not too) and trade him for a 2nd then. Nagy is ###### and no one will be able to predict his tendencies because he's trying to outsmart everyone so he has none.

You seem preoccupied with pointing out to everyone when something plays out how you said. No need to 'clear' anything up - it's a discussion forum.

Not sure why I responded to you a second time. I understand it was hindsight but everybody knew this was going to happen too. My apologies. Carry on.

I'm not sure what everybody expected from Cohen, but he's being used much the same way as last year. His first 3 games from 2018 look very similar to this.

Well so I've sent out a few offers after these few poor games, hoping his owners have come down a little since summer, but nope. Maybe one more dud will convince them. I'm sure you're right, a blow up game is due; hopefully not too soon though.

Tarik Cohen collected 11 yards on five carries while snaring two of five targets for seven yards and a touchdown Sunday in Chicago’s Week 4 win over Minnesota.

It was another quiet afternoon for Cohen, though that was probably to be expected with Chase Daniel filling in for injured starter Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder). To his credit, Cohen found himself on the receiving end of a 10-yard scoring strike from Daniel, beating Anthony Barr one-on-one for the game's only touchdown. Once considered a PPR staple, Cohen has largely underwhelmed this year, producing only 116 yards of offense (89 receiving, 27 rushing) while playing Robin to David Montgomery's Batman. Maybe Cohen can turn it around next week when the Bears host Oakland at Soldier Field.

Tarik Cohen rushed three times for 10 yards in the Bears' Week 7 loss to the Saints, adding nine receptions for 19 additional yards.

The entire Bears offense was stifled for the majority of the afternoon. This included Cohen, who was schemed short targets and fed dump-offs that went absolutely nowhere. Cohen has at least four targets in every game this season, as well as four-plus carries in four of his last five games, but won’t offer much of a ceiling as a complementary option in one of the league’s worst offenses. His average of 1.6 yards per target Sunday is comically bad. Treat Cohen as a low-floor and low-end RB3 for next week’s matchup against the Chargers.

Tarik Cohen compiled 14 yards on three carries along with four catches for 23 yards and a touchdown as a receiver Sunday in the Bears’ Week 10 win over the Lions.

Cohen was also active on special teams, returning two punts for a combined nine yards. He reacquainted himself with the end zone (a destination he hadn't visited since Week 4) Sunday, beating man coverage for a walk-in touchdown off a nine-yard screen from Mitchell Trubisky. Cohen's role as a receiving complement affords him some fantasy weight, though he's still a distant second to David Montgomery in Chicago's backfield pecking order. The Bears will have to pull out all the stops next week in a tough road matchup against the Rams.

Someone actually dropped Tarik this week. Scooped him up because I'm super desperate but this was encouraging news. Hope he gets all the work.

Tarik Cohen rushed nine times for 39 yards and caught 5-of-6 targets for 35 yards and a touchdown in Week 11 against the Rams.

Cohen got the start this week with David Montgomery (ankle) not fully healthy. He outplayed Montgomery, who finished with just 50 total yards. Cohen lined up in the slot and beat a linebacker on a sideline catch for a 14-yard touchdown — Chicago’s only score of the night. Gameflow will likely be working against Cohen for a Week 12 matchup with the Giants, but he’s a low-end FLEX.

Nov 17, 2019, 11:31 PM ET

Tarik Cohen caught 6-of-6 targets for 24 yards in the Bears' Week 14 win over the Cowboys, adding three rushes for seven additional yards.

It was a typically low-impact night from the third-year pro, though there was intrigue late with David Montgomery picking up a leg injury. Its severity is unknown. Even were Montgomery to miss next week's showdown with the Packers, Ryan Nall would figure to pick up most of the slack on early downs. Cohen would be a viable PPR FLEX.
Posting because it's unknown if Montgomery's injury is serious ATM.

Tarik Cohen rushed eight times for 28 yards and caught 7-of-10 targets for 57 yards in the Bears' Week 15 loss to the Packers.

Cohen has at least 15 touches in three of the last five games and has put himself back on the PPR map in that time. His 10 targets were third on the team behind Anthony Milles (15) and Allen Robinson (14). This offense goes through those three players now, and Cohen will be a FLEX option next week at home against the Chiefs. Cohen has just three touchdowns on the season.

Tarik Cohen said he is doing more yoga this offseason and that he "really slacked" on keeping his body durable in 2019.

Cohen played all 16 regular season games for the Bears, but he was one of the least efficient players in the NFL. Part of that falls on the Bears' offensive line and quarterback. Part of that falls on Cohen. Among 70 qualifiers, Cohen ranked 69th in PPR points per carry, and he was 174th out of 199 qualifiers in PPR points per target. Yikes. It's possible that Cohen has a rebound year in 2020 with a new quarterback and an offseason to get his body back on track, but it is never a surprise to see a 191-pound running back struggle early into their NFL career simply because of wear-and-tear. Many things will have to break Cohen's way for him to jump back into the fantasy starter conversation. For now, he's nothing more than a backup in PPR leagues.

The Bears and RB Tarik Cohen are working on finalizing a contract extension prior to the team's Week 2 game, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The deadline for Week 2 is 4:00 pm on Saturday. On a per touch basis, Cohen was among the worst running backs in the league in 2019, but the Bears must consider him an important part of their offense with David Montgomery offering very little in the passing game so far. Cohen handled seven carries for 41 yards and two receptions for six yards in the opener vs. Detroit. This week Cohen and Co. face the Giants.

Cohen was among the worst running backs in the league in 2019
He was?

I mean, the guy is not CMC. Not even Montgomery in terms of running between the tackles. And never was used that way.

His value is as a joker/receiving back, not as a runner.

Cohen had just as many receptions and yards as Kamara. And as many as Amari Cooper, and more than OBJ, Chark, Sutton, and many others. He's pretty central to that team's offense.

As to my FF offense? Not so much in Game 1.

Honestly I’d say him signing an extension is a drag on whatever dynasty value he has left. Would be better to get out of Chicago and go somewhere that might use him more effectively.

Word is coming out Tarik Cohen just signed a big contract.   Allen Robinson has been trying to get paid for weeks.

You never know in these situations, but I am almost expecting to wake up in the morning to find Allen Robinson traded after this news.

I barely want him on my redraft FF team, and I have $0/time contractural obligation. :sadbanana:

One would think he’d be a much bigger part of the game plan. 2 receptions for a dude who’s supposed to be your receiving back is absurd.

Maybe after paying him they’ll get him more involved?  Otherwise this is like hiring a personal chef to make you pop tarts every day. And some days he under-toasts or burns them. And you give him a raise. 😳

I don’t know man. I’ve burned a few pop tarts in my life.

Cohen should be as productive as Kamara or Ekeler in the passing game, if the Bears knew how to use him correctly.  Not sure paying him that much makes sense if you are going to continue to underuse him.

Another in a long line of moves that makes no sense by the Bears. Cohen is a one dimensional RB, who sucked at that one dimension a year ago.

He's getting only 250k less than Hunt, and 375k less than Ekeler, both of whom are better at receiving, in addition to being solid rushers.

This is going to age about as well as the Gio Bernard deal.

Meanwhile, you've got a #1 WR who wants a new deal, and is actually worthy of a big contract, as he's a better player, at a more important position, and he gets low balled.

Yeah, I dropped him this week to pick up Mattison (someone dropped). I reacted quickly when I saw Mattison available. I have been questioning my decision but Cohen is still sitting on our wire. I can’t imagine a time when I would want to use him.

Desperation BYE week PPR, praying hard the Bears figure out they have a receiving specialist?

As a long time Bears fan and as someone who was grabbing TC in the 8th and 9th round this year. Please use this guy like you did a a few years ago!!! Montgomery is just not that good! Get him out in space, that's where he is so electric! Bear Down!

The way I see it, Cohen money is not close to Robinson money and I doubt the GM doing one contract means it's a higher priority. It's more likely one was easier to get done than the other is proving to be.

Some of it is play calling, but I’m wondering if Trubisky is a big part of the problem.

Tarik Cohen rushed five times for 12 yards and caught his lone target for 15 yards in the Bears' Week 2 win over the Giants.

Fresh off signing a four-year, $17.25 million extension late Saturday, Cohen managed a measly 27 scoreless yards on six touches. No idea what GM Ryan Pace was thinking, but we've already been wondering that for years now. Cohen is a diminutive, pint-sized 5'6/191 "running back" who does nothing as a runner and plays in an offense that prefers to run it. David Montgomery did all of the heavy lifting for the Bears, leading the team in rushing and receiving, totaling 110 yards and one touchdown on 19 touches. Cohen won't be a recommended fantasy play Week 3 at the Falcons.

Sounds like most have likely cut bait, and I would have too if I found another back I might want to use as a flex/bye week filler.

We know that Cohen is not producing like we wanted him too -- he had unique potential in PPR, but fact of the matter is that this season, his snap count has gone down from 46% to 32%, and his targets, which are measley to begin with, are shrinking too, from 2 to 1.

We all know Cohen is being misused, given what his past production has shown. We know he's been given a contract, so rationale would follow that if they are investing, they will use him. I think all logic is out the window at this point. Bears are 2-0. I am not sure they have the impetus to change. I am not sure if they will start using or already have started to use Patterson more and more in a role Cohen used to have.

All I know is I have one big question that I'd love opinion on:

Do we expect his usage to change?

Tarik Cohen (right knee) exited Week 3's game against the Falcons.

Prior to being ruled out, Cohen rushed for 21 yards on two carries and caught 3-of-6 targets for 20 yards. Cohen has never missed a game in his NFL career, but that already looks in doubt against the Colts in Week 4, as the running back needed two trainers to help him off the field while putting no weight on his right leg.

Bears fear he tore his acl per Adam Schefter
Rotoworld:

Bears "fear" RB Tarik Cohen (knee) tore his ACL in Week 3, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Cohen needed to be carried off by the training staff and will have an MRI on Monday to confirm the diagnosis. Cohen had previously never missed a game in his NFL career and just signed a three-year contract extension a week ago.

Bears placed RB Tarik Cohen (torn ACL) on season-ending injured reserve.

Cohen, who had never missed an NFL game in his career to this point, recently signed a three-year, $17.25 million extension with the Bears on September 20. Running backs coach Charles London said the team is planning a "collaborative rushing effort" behind David Montgomery to replace Cohen — an approach that entails both Cordarrelle Patterson and Ryan Nall being heavily involved moving forward. Cohen, 25, should be cleared for Week 1 of the 2021 season.

Tarik Cohen (ACL) dealt with knee stiffness during last month's mandatory minicamp.

We haven't heard much on Cohen's rehab from the torn ACL he suffered last Week 3, but residual stiffness nine months after the fact isn't terribly alarming. Of course, there are players who would have already been back to 100 percent participation by that benchmark. Cohen no longer has the Bears' No. 2 running back spot all to himself following the addition of Damien Williams. Williams' presence likely means Cohen's role would not change all that much were David Montgomery to go down with injury. Brutally inefficient in 2019, Cohen probably isn't a strong bet to post his third 70-catch campaign in four seasons. Montgomery undoubtedly earned himself a bigger role in the passing game with last year's excellent closing effort.

Well, looks like he is a hold as he has no value now...
I was about to take him near end of a startup about a month ago and read that report of his knee stiffness  so I passed. I've not been able to pick up on any concern from Bears but a guy like that, with his size and skillset, I can't imagine how effective he could be if he's knee is not 100%.
