OFFICIAL 2017 Training Camp & Preseason: News & Tidbits Thread (1 Viewer)

Following the Vance McDonald trade, fifth-round TE George Kittle is expected to "get a lot of snaps this year."

ESPN's Nick Wagoner says that is even if he does not "technically" start. Kittle missed some time with a hamstring injury early in camp, but he has been getting work with the first-team offense in the preseason. He is a name to know in two-TE formats.

Thanks, I never would have seen this if you hadn't posted it. The websites that autoload crappy videos are the absolute worst so I never see these sites even when they put up interesting content.

How the Saints could possibly cut Anthony is completely beyond me unless they think he'll never be healthy again. Do they really have the defensive talent to just flush a 1st rounder from two years ago(that flashed talent his rookie year)? If they plan on rolling with Te'o all year.... good luck with that. Anthony looked better as a rookie than Te'o has at any time in his pro career imo, not that Te'o has played in all that many games.

Buccaneers waived RB Jeremy McNichols.

The fifth-round rookie never lived up to his post-draft hype, disappointing with just 79 rushing yards on 24 carries during the preseason. He was disastrous in pass protection and didn't pan out as a pass-catcher either (zero catches in the preseason). For now, the Bucs will roll with Jacquizz Rodgers, Charles Sims and Peyton Barber behind eventual starter Doug Martin, who still has three games remaining on his PED suspension.

Rams acquired TE Derek Carrier from the Redskins.

The compensation is unclear, but is likely a conditional day-three pick. The move reunites Carrier with coach Sean McVay, and provides some experienced depth behind young guns Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee. Higbee had a bit of a rough summer. Despite his familiarity with McVay's system and McVay's clear fondness for him, Carrier won't become a pass-catching factor in Los Angeles.

ESPN's Tim McManus reports the Eagles will keep Donnel Pumphrey on their initial roster.

A fourth-round pick who earned some praise this offseason, Pumphrey was on the roster bubble following a disappointing preseason. The Eagles will hold onto the diminutive runner for now, but it is possible they find a way to stash him. Pumphrey has no value in redraft leagues.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach insisted Saturday that there is no quarterback controversy in Kansas City.

First-round pick Patrick Mahomes showed terrific skills in the preseason, but he remains a raw developmental player, and the Chiefs believe Alex Smith gives them their best chance to win. "There is no gray area," insisted Veach. "Alex is so far advanced from the mental side of things in regard to his ability to read coverages, to shift us out of plays and really play the chess game. He’s so far ahead of where Pat is. I don’t think it’s even close right now."

Rookie RB Jeremy McNichols cleared waivers and is now a free agent.

A fifth-round pick, McNichols is beloved in the draft community, but the NFL doesn't seem to be that impressed. He couldn't pick up the playbook in Tampa Bay and blew a number of assignments in pass protection.

According to ESPN 49ers reporter Nick Wagoner, Aldrick Robinson will get "plenty" of looks in three-wide sets this season.

A favorite of coach Kyle Shanahan, Robinson will get a chance to work in three-wide sets alongside go-to receiver Pierre Garcon and deep threat Marquise Goodwin. Wagoner also said fifth-round rookie Trent Taylor will see "opportunities" in the slot, where he'll be replacing Jeremy Kerley. Robinson remains well off the fantasy radar.

Following the release of Jonathan Williams, Mike Tolbert is on track to enter the season as the Bills' No. 2 back.

Most famous for his variety of nicknames -- "The Tuldozer" and "Tub of Goo" are among them -- Tolbert turns 32 in two months, and was brought on by first-year HC Sean McDermott as a coaches' pet from Carolina. Tolbert averaged just 3.4 carries per game over the past three seasons, scoring one rushing TD. We expect the Bills to ride LeSean McCoy until his wheels fall off this season.

49ers signed RB Jeremy McNichols to the practice squad.

The fifth-round rookie went unclaimed on waivers after a disastrous preseason. The 49ers have little proven depth behind Carlos Hyde, so a 53-man call up will be a distinct possibility if McNichols can put his woeful summer behind him on the practice field.
