Joe Needs Feedback - How can the Shark Pool Be More Useful and Better? (2 Viewers)

@Joe Bryant, just want to say how much I appreciate the recent appearances by the footballguys staffers in the Shark Pool.  It definitely adds a cool vibe to the community, knowing that we can interact with those who do the projections, rankings, articles etc...

Thanks
Thank you @battlestar   I listened to you guys and I'm trying to make this something we do more of.

No you couldn't do that, at least not that I am aware of (I have pointed out my disappointment with the search functions of these boards to the highest authorities).  But you can :blackdot: threads as you decide you are interested and sort by those.

Like I said, I just don't see much issue with the Dynasty threads because I find tons of relevant info about the player. IMO filtering through the noise doesn't seem any more difficult than having to switch tabs.  And I don't think it is worth the associated risk of losing good posters who will have little reason to visit the Redraft forum thread on the same player.  I fill like we will become an even more insular community than we already are. Heaven help the poor ******* who mistakenly wanders into the wrong forum and asks about Redraft (or Dynasty).
meh...if there is a combined thread on a player and I start reading a post...I have to see what angle that poster is coming from to evaluate the comments for my use...if with one click I know ahead of time the discussion is either (a.) redraft focused or (b.) dynasty focused I save a ton of time with that one click....

There is another site I frequent and it's all dynasty, all year. It would be nice if more people from here migrated over there for dynasty discussion during the season.

I've been playing dynasty over 30 years. I am not FBGs target market. The only reason I would pay for this site would be to support them, but I think they're doing ok by now. Dynasty (and devy) keep you informed all year so the need to pay someone for advice isn't great.  Redrafters are the target market. People play in a league or 2, want their research done for them and will shell out the money to FBG. I'm not saying all redrafters, but there is a large segment of the redraft community that don't have the time to do the research. As far as dynasty has come, redraft will always be the big draw.
I don't think it is fair to make a blanket statement like that especially including the part about wanting their research done for them......if thats all people want, they wouldn't frequent the boards and would just pay for the rankings, DD, cheat sheets and be done with it....I think many redrafters do use those services but also venture into the pool/MDF/etc. for more insight/opinions/conversations, etc....not counting on others that simply....

I get it, I really do. I feel the same way (and regularly comment upon) when people talk about ADP in terms of Round.Pick (e.g. Player X is being drafted 7.1).

There are so many different league configurations nowadays it renders that information completely useless (i.e. it wastes my time). I would much rather see people say Player X is the 17th RB off the board. Sure there are still variables that must be accounted for (like PPR or not) but not nearly as many which makes it easier to apply that info to my specific league(s).

But I doubt it's gonna change so...end

Not a blanket statement. I said " there is a large segment of the redraft community".

Not sure if anyone else realized this but some of the posts from in here are being used in the content pages!  Really cool that they're making the link from the board to the pages and it can add some additional points of view.  Not sure if this has always been done and maybe I just haven't been reading enough of the articles (there's a lot), but saw a few of them today such as this one...  http://subscribers.footballguys.com/apps/article.php?article=2018-player-spotlight-davante-adams

If you scroll down there's some quotes from the forum members in there.  Cool stuff, and I think it's a small thing that might up the quality of the  content on here.

Yes, that definitely was common place as I recall, back in the days when they ran player spotlight threads through the shark pool. Now that those threads have returned to the SP, good to see that section at the bottom of the player articles is back as well.

I noticed I havent gone to the AC forum hardly at all since it isn’t pinned in the shark pool anymore. While that may be good for the posters there to not see my advice, I’m wondering if there is less traffic there now because of that. I used to post there quite frequently in the offseason.

FWIW, I firmly believe separating dynasty and redraft into their own forums would be an epic mistake.  The exchange of information and opinions here are what make this one of the - maybe even the - most valuable resources in FF.  If something is posted that doesn’t apply specifically to your situation, just bypass it.

My goodness people, seriously, you can really just ignore a couple of posts and still have a thread be very valuable?   Just because I play in a 14 team dynasty IDP graduated ppr doesn’t mean that information/opinion posted by a 10 team/redraft/team D guy has no value to me.  Significantly narrowing the sources of information and expecting the forum to retain its superior value just does not seem like a very good or logical idea to me.

From what I remember, the Shark Pool once had great minds sharing ideas, hot takes, and perspectives on players, teams, situations, strategies, etc. A lot of people took the time to do the research, post actually data and statistics, and people all got along and appreciated the effort. Even if people didn't agree, people could have civilized debates and discussions.

If we jump ahead, IMO, there's very little discussion about actual football anymore. For example, the SB was 5 months ago. The SB thread lives on, and there is still testosterone filled barbs being thrown around that one team or the other sucks.

There used to be so much more legit content being discussed. Fantasy strategies, strength of OLs, training camp position battles (not just at skill positions), coaching trends and the impact on upcoming seasons, how the game has shifted over the years, etc.

I believe I posted a lot of historical data on passing and running trends, the use of RB specialists over the years, how workloads have shifted, expected career expectations by age for RB's, etc. that got very few clicks, reads, or comments. Given the amount of time it took to put stuff together, I started posting useful information less and less over the years.

I realize that doesn't exactly answer the question of how to improve the Shark Pool, but it at least shows how thinks have changed over the years and hopefully there is a way to capture that again.

I actually think the Shark Pool has improved tremendously over the last month or two since Joe and the staff have been more involved and engaged in the topics and the forum in general.  Right now--we are in a period where it's probably mainly the hardcore fantasy players posting and patroning this forum--but I do think that as the season gets closer--that the improvements will become more evident.   Over the years when this place was treated as a side thought by the staff, I think it really devolved in regards to content, the number of users and the general tone of how the remaining users posted (a lot of snarkiness, and confrontational/rude posts).  It took a while for things to devolve to what they were a few months ago--and it'll take a while to build things back up--but I personally see a noticeable improvement over the past several weeks.   I like how the staff is engaging conversations, starting topics and asking for opinions and data.

Haven’t been able to read whole thread nor am I good at navigating this platform but the feature I miss the most is the button that let me click on a thread and press “unread posts” which would lead me directly to the first post since I was last in the thread. (This may be very easy but I still haven’t figured out)

Thanks for everything you guys do. I do feel that the main difference between then and now is saturation of options to get info across the Internet in general.

click on the blue dot next to any thread (instead of the thread title itself) and it brings you to your last read post.

ps. same works when clicking on the "Converse" white star (ie. you posted in the thread).

Hey Guys,

Need your feedback. We've done this a few times and thought I might start a new thread here.

Please give your thoughts on this big question:

How can we make the Shark Pool Be More Useful And Better?

The goal I have for this board is simply that. I want it be a place and community that's useful for people playing Fantasy Football.

So let's hear it. What kind of things would you like to see more of? Less of? Don't be shy. Dream big. We of course can't do everything everyone wants. But I'd like to hear what you're thinking.

Joe
The most obvious way it would be better in terms of fantasy football is more interaction from the main faces/voices of Football Guys. Cecil, Sig, Waldman, etc. They are the ones on the podcatsts and writing the biggest artlcl/es features. I know they are on Twitter and that is wher everything went but if they were here and working in THIS comminity, it would make the community better IMO. I am not sure how that relates to money spent or made- it is strictly a comment on how to make the SP bigger and better.
