Eagles trade for #2 overall pick (1 Viewer)

Seems awfully risky to do that before the Rams make their pick.  Unless they are equally thrilled with either of two players, which seems unlikely.

Browns send 1.02, 2017 4th

Eagles send 1.08, 3.77, 4.100, 2017 first, 2018 second

Move back 6 spots, get an extra pick this year, an extra first next year, and an extra second the year after.

I'm convinced Cleveland will find a way to #### this up, great trade for Cleveland

If Browns were actively shopping the pick, it doesn't leave them much choice.

Eagles trade for No. 2 overall pick in 2016 NFL Draft

Posted by Darin Gantt on April 20, 2016, 1:51 PM EDT
The Eagles are going to be able to get a quarterback.

They just have to wait to see which one they get.

The team announced they had traded with the Browns for the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, guaranteeing them a shot at eitherJared Goff or Carson Wentz, depending on who the Rams want at No. 1.

The Eagles will give up their first-round pick (eighth overall), their third (77th) and fourth (100th), along with their 2017 first-rounder and their 2018 second-rounder. They will get the Browns’ fourth-rounder this year as well as the second pick.

===============

Eagles give up:

  • 2016 1st round pick #8
  • 2016 3rd round pick #77
  • 2016 4th round pick #100
  • 2017 1st round pick
  • 2018 2nd round pick
Browns give up:

  • 2016 1st round pick #2
  • 2016 4th round pick #99 EDIT:  The Browns give up their 2017 4th round pick, NOT their 2016 4th round pick

Nice move for both teams. Like Philly didn't stand back just because they have Bradford & Daniel already [either of which they can still move to get back pick(s)]

The Eagles now have the following picks in this year’s draft:

1st Round - No. 2 overall (from Cleveland)

3rd Round - No. 79 overall (from Detroit in 2015 trade)

5th Round - No. 153 overall

5th Round - No. 164 overall (from Pittsburgh in Brandon Boykin trade)

6th Round - No. 188 overall

7th Round - No. 233 overall

7th Round - No. 251 overall (From Arizona in Matt Barkley trade)

What is this trade in terms of Kiko, Maxwell, and DeMarco?

Like the picks they got for those players plus what other picks?

Wouldn't they have some big cap ramifications moving either qb after just giving them big contracts?

i think this a historical blunder, going after a small school qb, albeit with great tools, that already has 2 concussions.

Kelly tried to get the #2 last year for Mariota. Some writers hated that but love this trade? Is that genuine? Or just kelly hatred? Mariota seems better than these two but I don't know

contract goes with them when traded

When looking at this does it appear as if we gave up a ton?

Seems like a good deal for both teams

Yes and no. Bradford got an $11M bonus and Daniel a $3M bonus which would accelerate onto this year's cap for the Eagles even if they traded either of them.

I can't see the Eagles as willing to swallow that chunk of change to move Bradford, but for Daniel that would leave another team on the hook for just $9M in guaranteed money over 2 seasons, which for someone who thinks he can be a serviceable starter, would be a bargain.

I'm sure the signing bonus would go to Eagles but not stating they'll necessarily deal Bradford/Daniel this year. Can't expect Wentz to be ready immediately.

As much need as their is for QBs around the league, it's a good problem for Eagles to have. Certainly better than the 3 RB debacle of last year.

your numbers seem off

5.5 mil signing bonus, 4 mil roster bonus

I didn't realize the roster bonus was March not late August

So I think that means they'd eat 9.5.

I agree with your sentiment that's a lot to eat, probably too much.

Chase has 1 mil salary, 1 mil signing bonus, and 3 mil roster bonus. Is that August? End of preseason? I imagine that would (if so) be paid by a receiving team.

7+1 each of next two years

Man, I don't get this one. Kelly took all kinds of flack for wanting to deal up for mariota last year.  Now they go and do this for a qb who's nowhere near the prospect mariota was?

I was too brief, wrongly presented previous.

13mil should go to new team, 9.5 eagles would eat

It's entirely possible they don't think Wentz is pro-ready either and don't plan to play him at all this season, in which case this is a moot point anyway.

I apologize. I ...I don't know I put 2017 and 2016 notes together and messed this up.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/sam-bradford/

I totally botched this

Jeff Darlington @JeffDarlington

Howie makes point about future drafts I've heard from a number of NFL offices: QB position looks murky in next couple drafts after this one.
If I was an Eagles fan, this thought process would terrify me.

Bradford is hugely overpaid....I doubt he gets moved at all.  Very questionable move by the Eagles but I do like the rookie QB being able to sit and learn for at least a full season.  That is a rare thing that usually pays off.
