Dynasty Joe's Dynasty Rankings (1 Viewer)

Dynasty Joe

Footballguy
Haven’t seen any dynasty rankings in a while so I thought I’d make some of my own. I did my best to make it my own and not be swayed by popular opinion. I can't say I'm any more knowledgeable then any other dynasty owner. Just another average Joe so to speak. This is based on the following point system:

1 point per 25 yards passing, 6 points per passing touchdown

1 point per 10 yards rushing, 6 points per rushing touchdown

1 point per 10 yards receiving, 6 points per receiving touchdown, 0.5 per reception

6 points per return touchdowns, -2 points for fumble lost, -2 points for interception thrown

Quarterback Rankings

Tier 1

1. Aaron Rodgers, GB

Rogers has had three straight top 2 fantasy QB seasons and is only 28.

Tier 2

2. Cam Newton, CAR

No rookie QB has ever passed for as many yards and no QB has ever had as many rushing touchdowns.

3. Drew Brees, NO

4. Tom Brady, NE

5. Matt Stafford, DET

Stafford should be an above average fantasy QB as long as he has Calvin Johnson to throw the ball to.

Tier 3

6. Matt Ryan, ATL

Ryan really had an outstanding 2nd half of 2011 after struggling for the first half of the season.

7. Philip Rivers, SD

Rivers had an awful 2011 season but there is no reason why he can't bounce back in 2012.

8. Michael Vick, PHI

Vick is an elite fantasy QB when healthy but has had trouble staying healthy.

Tier 4

9. Tony Romo, DAL

10. Peyton Manning, IND

There is a chance Manning may never play again but if he does there is a very good chance he could be a top 5 fantasy QB.

Tier 5

11. Sam Bradford, STL

12. Eli Manning, NYG

Eli will jump a couple tiers if he duplicates his 2011 season in 2012.

13. Josh Freeman, TB

14. Ben Roethlisberger, PIT

15. Matt Schaub, HOU

Tier 6

16. Andy Dalton, CIN

Dalton benefits from having A.J. Green who has the potential to become a top 3 WR in the NFL.

17. Ryan Fitzpatrick, BUF

18. Jay Cutler, CHI

I wonder what Cutler could do if he ever got a couple legit receivers and an offensive line in Chicago.

19. Joe Flacco, BAL

20. Jake Locker, TEN

Locker has shown promise in relief for Hasselbeck this season.

Tier 7

21. Tim Tebow, DEN

Tebow hasn't been a top 15 QB this season in PPG and there are questions whether he has the accuracy to hold down a starting QB job long term.

22. Mark Sanchez, NYJ

23. Christian Ponder, MIN

24. Matt Flynn, GB

Flynn's 6 touchdown and 480 passing yard performance against the Lions in week 17 will likely get him a starting job in 2012.

25. Kevin Kolb, ARI

26. Blaine Gabbert, JAX

27. Carson Palmer, OAK

28. Colin Kaepernick, SF

Tier 8

28. Alex Smith, SF

29. Colt McCoy, CLE

30. Matt Cassel, KC

32. Vince Young, PHI

33. Kyle Orton, DEN

34. John Skelton, ARI

35. Matt Moore, MIA

Running Back Rankings

Tier 1

1. LeSean McCoy, PHI

McCoy has been a top 3 RB the last two years.

2. Ray Rice, BAL

Rice has had 70+ receptions in two of the last three seasons.

Tier 2

3. Arian Foster, HOU

Last year's top fantasy RB rebounded to have another top 3 season after injury woes early on.

4. Chris Johnson, TEN

The top fantasy RB from 2009 had a very disappointing season in 2011.

5. Adrian Peterson, MIN

A torn ACL/MCL at least temporarily brings down AP's value.

Tier 3

6. Maurice Jones-Drew, JAX

Long term health concerns bring MJD's value down just a bit.

7. Matt Forte, CHI

If Forte hadn't suffered a season ending injury, he probably would have been a top 10 fantasy RB for the third time in four years.

8. Ryan Mathews, SD

Mathews has quietly had a top 10 RB season in 2011.

Tier 4

9. Jamaal Charles, KC

10. C.J. Spiller, BUF

Other RBs such as McCoy, Rice, and McFadden did little as rookies. Spiller was a top 10 pick and has been a top 5 fantasy RB the last month. I think Spiller is severely underrated by many.

11. Darren McFadden, OAK

McFadden may be a special talent but in four seasons he has never played in more than 13 games.

12. Mark Ingram, NO

Ingram could easily be another RB that needs one year of seasoning before becoming RB1 in fantasy.

13. Marshawn Lynch, SEA

Lynch has been a beast this year but is in a contract year. If he plays like this again next year, he’ll be ranked alongside MJD and Forte.

14. Rashard Mendenhall, PIT

Mendenhall has never finished higher than 10th among RBs in total fantasy points

15. Demarco Murray, DAL

Murray flashed a lot of talent this year but also did nothing to ease concerns regarding his inability to stay healthy.

Tier 5

16. Ahmad Bradshaw, NYG

Bradshaw is another RB whose value is hurt due to his inability to stay healthy.

17. Jonathan Stewart, CAR

18. Beanie Wells, ARI

Wells started strong but struggled down the stretch. He’s also seems to get dinged up easier than most other RBs

19. Steven Jackson, STL

20. Frank Gore, SF

21. Darren Sproles, NO

Should end the season as a top 7 RB but he will be 29 next season and the threat of Ingram eating into his production looms.

22. Jahvid Best, DET

Because of Best's concussion history, I think he should viewed in the same way as Gore and Jackson i.e. somebody who probably doesn't have very many productive seasons left.

23. Lagarrette Blount, TB

Blount's value will plummet if the Bucs draft Trent Richardson.

24. Daniel Thomas, MIA

Thomas wasn't used extensively in 2011 but could carve out a bigger role for himself in 2012.

25. Reggie Bush, MIA

26. Michael Turner, ATL

Turner turns 30 this off season.

Tier 6

27. Peyton Hillis, CLE

Don't forget Hillis was the #2 fantasy RB in 2010.

28. Shane Vereen, NE

BJGE will be a free agent after the season.

29. Ben Tate, HOU

Among the backup RBs in the league, I think Tate has the best chance of landing a starting job when his current contract ends.

30. Mike Tolbert, SD

Will be a UFA this off season.

31. Michael Bush, OAK

Will be a UFA this off season.

32. Fred Jackson, BUF

33. Donald Brown, IND

A lot of Brown's recent success has come out of the I-Formation which the Colts almost never run with Manning under center.

34. Stevan Ridley, NE

See Vereen.

35. Felix Jones, DAL

Jones has been a preseason darling twice in his career now but hasn't been able to handle a full load.

36. Shonn Greene, NYJ

I'm not sure Greene is all that talented.

Tier 7

37. Rey Helu, WAS

Helu would be higher if I wasn't concerned about Shanahan's willingness to stick with any particular RB.

38. DeAngelo Williams, CAR

39. James Starks, GB

40. Mikel Leshoure, DET

41. Ryan Williams, ARI

42. Knowshon Moreno, DEN

I think many owners give up on players to quickly. Moreno certainly has lost a lot of value, but I think it's a little early to be dropping him.

43. Kevin Smith, DET

44. Willis McGahee, DEN

45. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, NE

46. Cedric Benson, CIN

47. Kendall Hunter, SF

48. Montario Hardesty, CLE

Tier 8

49. Bernard Scott, CIN

50. Toby Gerhart, MIN

51. Pierre Thomas, NO

52. Joseph Addai, IND

53. Brandon Jacobs, NYG

54. Ryan Grant, GB

55. Delone Carter, IND

56. Jacquizz Rodgers, ATL

57. Jonathan Dwyer, PIT

58. Taiwan Jones, OAK

59. Evan Royster, WAS

60. Joe McKnight, NYJ

Wide Receiver Rankings

Tier 1

1. Calvin Johnson, DET

Megatron in my opinion is the most valuable player in dynasty fantasy football

Tier 2

2. Larry Fitzgerald, ARI

Fitzgerald has been a mainstay in the top 10 fantasy WRs for several years now and will only be 29 next season. If he can ever get a real QB, watch out.

3. A.J. Green, CIN

Green has exceeded just about everyone’s expectations by having a 1,000+ receiving season as a rookie.

Tier 3

4. Wes Welker, NE

Welker has shown he has fully recovered from tearing his ACL and MCL in January 2010 to lead the NFL in receptions.

5. Julio Jones, ATL

Jones appears to have the ability to become an elite play maker in the NFL.

6. Andre Johnson, HOU

AJ's value is hurt by injuries and age.

7. Roddy White, ATL

8. Mike Wallace, PIT

9. Hakeem Nicks, NYG

Nicks was out shined by fellow teammate Victor Cruz.

Tier 4

10. Greg Jennings, GB

Jennings’s value is hurt due to competition for targets with Finley and Nelson in Green Bay.

11. Miles Austin, DAL

Austin had an injury riddled 2011 but when healthy has proven to be an elite play maker.

12. Percy Harvin, MIN

13. Dez Bryant, DAL

14. Victor Cruz, NYG

Cruz was the waiver wire pickup of the year.

15. Jeremy Maclin, PHI

16. Jordy Nelson, GB

Nelson finished with the third in total fantasy points among WRs this season, but it's hard to imagine he'll be able to match his 15 touchdown season. Still, it's equally hard to imagine Randall Cobb will ever take the #2 WR spot from Nelson given the play making skills Nelson demonstrated this season.

17. Dwayne Bowe, KC

18. Marques Colston, NO

Colston's upside is limited due to competition for targets in New Orleans but has consistently been a top 20 fantasy WR.

19. Brandon Marshall, MIA

Marshall had issues with dropped passes early in the season but seems to have to have gotten past the issue.

20. Vincent Jackson, SD

21. Steve Johnson, BUF

Tier 5

22. Michael Crabtree, SF

23. Kenny Britt, TEN

24. Mike Williams, TB

Williams had a sophomore slump but still has 60+ catches on the season.

25. Greg Little, CLE

26. Steve Smith, CAR

Smith really reemerged this season but he still turns 33 in May.

27. Brandon Lloyd, STL

28. Antonio Brown, PIT

Brown certainly has appears to be the Steelers WR2 of the future over Emmanuel Sanders.

29. DeSean Jackson, PHI

Jackson might be one of the most overrated players in all of fantasy football. His perceived value has not matched his production.

Tier 6

30. Darrius Heyward-Bey, OAK

DHB has finally shown signs of life with several solid outings this season.

31. Reggie Wayne, IND

Wayne's QB situation can't get any worse than it was in 2011. I think he’s still a top 15 talent but he’s also 33 years old.

32. Pierre Garcon, IND

33. Eric Decker, DEN,

34. Demaryius Thomas, DEN

35. Jonathan Baldwin, KC

36. Torrey Smith, BAL

37. Denarius Moore, OAK

38. Austin Collie, IND

Collie was having a monster 2010 season before suffering multiple concussions.

39. Sidney Rice, SEA

Tier 7

40. Laurent Robinson, DAL

41. Titus Young, DET

42. Mario Manningham, NYG

43. Arrelious Benn, TB

44. Randall Cobb, GB

45. Anquan Boldin, BAL

46. Santonio Holmes, NYJ

47. Cecil Shorts, JAX

48. Johnny Knox, CHI

49. Julian Edelman, NE

50. Jacoby Ford, OAK

51. Jerome Simpson, CIN

52. Malcolm Floyd, SD

53. Mike Thomas, JAX

54. Damian Williams, TEN

55. Nate Washington, TEN

Tier 8

56. David Nelson, BUF

57. Lance Moore, NO

Tight end Rankings

Tier 1

1. Jimmy Graham, NO

Graham is only in his third year of competitive football and is in the top 10 among RBs, WRs, and TEs for total fantasy points. He is a top 20 dynasty talent.

2. Rob Gronkowski, NE

Like Graham, Gronkowski is in the top 10 among RBs, WRs, and TEs for total fantasy points. He is a top 20 dynasty talent as well

Tier 2

3. Jermichael Finley, GB

Finley, Jordy Nelson, and Greg Jennings all limit each other's upside.

4. Jason Witten, DAL

Tier 3

5. Antonio Gates, SD

Gates has had injury issues the last couple of years but when healthy has been a top 3 fantasy TE.

6. Vernon Davis, SF

7. Aaron Hernandez

There appears to be enough targets for both Gronkowski and Hernandez.

8. Brandon Pettigrew

Tier 4

9. Jermaine Gresham, CIN

10. Fred Davis, WAS

11. Dallas Clark, IND

Has had back to back injury plagued seasons after an outstanding 2009 season.

12. Owen Daniels, HOU

13. Tony Gonzalez, ATL

14. Dustin Keller, NYJ

Tier 5

15. Kyle Rudolph, MIN

16. Lance Kendricks, STL

24. Julius Thomas, DEN

25. Marcedes Lewis, JAX

The first thing that sticks out to me is your high Michael Crabtree ranking. Having him a spot ahead of britt is off to me. Having him way ahead of Wayne, robinson, Thomas seems very off.

Another thing i disagree about is where Britt is. He was having a GREAT season and should continue next year. He's a beast

Thanks for the effort. Can you talk more about Big Ben's ranking?
Under my league settings he has been #11 in 2011, #17 in 2010 (7th in ppg), #9 in 2009, #18 in 2008, and #4 in 2007. He's a serviceable option but I feel the sample size is large enough to know that he probably isn't going to win you fantasy games like some of the guys above him can.

Aside from being young, what has Bradford done/shown to warrant his #11 ranking? Thanks for doing the list.
Yeah this is one of things I don't feel particularly secure about in my rankings. Truth be told, he and Josh Freeman probably deserve to be ranked a tier lower. I'd still take either one over a guy like Eli because of age and Eli's total body of work.

agreed.Signed, fantasy owner who has had Big Ben rostered since 2007.

He had two great games and then got hurt. He certainly has the talent to be a beast but I also feel there are major concerns regarding his work ethic. I don't feel like there is much distance between him, Michael Crabtree, Mike Williams, and Jordy Nelson. Each has their own warts and reasons to take a chance on.Crabree, aside from a lack of TDs, is having a respectable season. He is the 21st ranked WR in total points between weeks 8 and 16. Crabtree had 2 TDs over the span. Of the 20 WRs ahead of him, 19 of the 20 have at 3 TDs or more and 15 of the 20 have 4 TDs or more. If Crabtree had one more TD, he'd be in a tie for 16th fantasy WR. If he had two more TDs during that span, he'd jump to 12th fantasy WR. Touchdown receptions is one of the more variant stats in football. Given his pedigree and what he's shown so far, I feel he is deserving of a ranking in the low to mid 20s.edit: I chose a specific time frame because Crabtree was hurt the first part of the season.

what's even better than the list is your reasons for where guys are positioned. I have had Britt rostered since he was drafted, and I totally agree with what you are saying.

Keep the great analysis coming!!!

Lance Kenricks - watching the game today, the kid does not look good. He's run some sloppy routes and has dropped at least one pass. The Rams announcers said he's had a big problem with drops this year. If they are correct, does this impact your rankings? And how close is Robert Housler to making your list?

6. Matt Ryan, ATL
This seems high for Ryan, even if only a couple of spots. I assume all of White, Jones, and Gonzalez will be back and healthy next year. At some point after that, Gonzalez will retire. Not sure what to think about Turner going forward, how long he will be there and how he will be replaced.Ryan has had a nice progression, but will it persist? I could not draft him over Rivers.
8. Michael Vick, PHI10. Peyton Manning, IND
Both of these guys seem high to me, and I wouldn't draft either of them anywhere close to these positions. Too much risk for both of them, and both of them are getting old. (Vick will only be 32 next year, but he will likely age faster than a typical QB given so much of his value is in running.)
9. Tony Romo, DAL
Romo seems a couple spots low. His QB ranks over the past 5 years have been 2, 9, 6, injured, 6, and in 2010 when he was injured in the 6th game, his first 5 games had him right in position for another top 8 season. He is very consistent, and he has shown the ability to play through injury this year.

8. Ryan Mathews, SD15. Demarco Murray, DAL
These guys seem too low. IMO the only guys clearly above Mathews right now are McCoy, Rice, and Foster. Murray should be top 10 for sure... I wouldn't knock him for durability based on one broken ankle.

Good set of rankings. I disagree with some of them but overall it's a very good list and I appreciate the effort you put into it.

Murray is near top 5 in my opinion.Matthews is where he belongs, I think Tolbert brings his value down.
I seriously doubt the new coach will give Tolbert as many touches as Norv has. Mathews is clearly more explosive and should be the bellcow, which is what I expect.

I believe Tate is too low. Houston drafted him to be their guy and Foster won't get what he wants/deserves with Tate in the backfield. I bet Houston keeps Tate and not Foster.

Wide Receiver Rankings

25. Greg Little, CLE

29. Antonio Brown, PIT

31. Darrius Heyward-Bey, OAK

37. Denarius Moore, OAK
Awesome List!As a Greg Little owner I was surprised to see you rank him so high, especially ahead of some of the other names quoted above. What do you see in him?

Thanks for the list. People will always gripe about something. One of the better all around lists I have seen.

Nice insights! I think it is amazing how consistent the top 3-4 QBs have been over several seasons. No one could have seen Cam coming this fast but no one could argue his success.

Does anyone worry about a Daunte Culpepper like drop? He seemed unstoppable at the time too...and he had Randy Moss in his prime to throw at.

Gripe/feedback... If everyone agreed on values, that would take a lot of fun out the offseason. The Matt Ryan ranking JUMPS off the page at me. You have at #6 overall and base it on half a season of work? But will rank guys like Shuab, Eli and Romo TIERS below him based on what? the fact that you don't their numbers will be repeated? Its always great to buck the trend and get the next star before he blows up, but I just don't see Ryan as a clear cut must start fantasty QB for the future.

5. Mike Wallace, PIT29. Antonio Brown, PIT
Not the first plave I've seen this and I really don't understand why. Since Week 8 Brown outscored Wallace in every game except one. His targets are a bit higher as well on the year.I understand Wallace has a bigger body of work to fall back on but I think this gap should be a lot closer than 24.

It's less griping about something and more wanting to have a discussion when someone clearly values a player differently than you. Rankings/lists are nice but imo the discussion that follows is really the best part. If I have Brandon Lloyd ranked in the top 15 and he has him barely inside the top 30, I'm curious to find out what one of us is overvaluing.

21. Tim Tebow, DEN

Tebow hasn't been a top 15 QB this season in PPG
Pretty sure this is wrong. He is #12. If it's 4 point passing TDs, he's #10.
He may not be the starter for Denver next season. This is likely a wait and see ranking.
I am not questioning the ranking, but the facts given in his argument. He was a low QB1 in PPG this year. He is not a QB1 in dynasty; my use of "#12" referred to his actual 2011 PPG ranking in 6 pt TD leagues.

Aside from being young, what has Bradford done/shown to warrant his #11 ranking? Thanks for doing the list.
Have to agree here.Bradford should be a nice buy low, in case he can MAYBE end up being a Big Ben/Eli level player ONE DAY. I personally don't think it is likely and would be shocked if it happened in the next couple years. But, his name value is suggesting he is still a sell high. Odd. Good list though.

Dante Culpepper tore 3 ligaments in his knee and was never the same player, or even close really. I don't think anyone would project that happing to Cam.

I think selling Schaub, Cutler, or Fitz for him is a good buy low. He is worth the risk at that point, and that sort of deal is doable if the guy started or QBBC'ed with Bradford all year. I wouldn't sell Eli or Ben for him, those guys have too many years left to be downgraded for age.

Before Culpepper tore his knee up he lost Randy Moss, and he looked pretty bad (threw 6 TDs and 12 INTs in 7 games). I think if he'd stayed healthy it would have been apparent that he wasn't nearly as good as his numbers with Moss indicated. I'm not saying Cam is like that, though, just that I didn't think Culpepper was that good without Moss.

great points! i think Cam seems very different considering Steve Smith is no Randy Moss (very good.. yes) but Daunte was the last running QB with a body to take the punishment.

Also, Justin Blackmon looked awesome last night. Easily could slide up quickly into the Dez/Julio/Nicks mold.
