Chris Hogan, WR (2 Viewers)

I suspect that is due to him being completely uncovered on some plays. Brady would look for him if he was open, but many games he could be covered one on one and was tough to target. And when Edelman was out he was covered pretty easily. He may be a decent piece, but IMO he’s not a WR1, may be a so so WR2, and should be more of an NFL team’s WR3.
This is a pretty sound analysis. Brady found Hogan when he was wide open, little when the corners pressed, coverage was one-in-one and a little tight, or a safety rolled to him. Then again, Gordon got the same treatment from Brady for the most part. The whole point of the Patriots offense is to get the ball out quickly to Edelman and the backs (and this year, run the football) and when those guys got pressed or had a safety roll to them, the ball wasn't going either of their way.

Hogan was the beneficiary of coverage elsewhere or blown assignments.

Right I think he was targeted so little that he often got ignored. Hogan’s snaps vs targets is a pretty unlikely ratio for the modern NFL. Rich Hribar made a joke that Chris Hogan was paid to go out and exercise for an hour every Sunday.

@Raider Nation - We need a thread title update on this one.

I propose the following:

Chris Hogan, AFC East WR
I propose "Chris Hogan, journeyman WR who has never ranked higher than WR55, moves on again." He lit up the Steelers one year in the playoffs, but on the whole, he's been mostly a role player that once a season might have a noteworthy game. In 25% of the games he's played in over his career, he did not have a catch.

He's a decent WR4 on an NFL team when the other options require a lot of attention and he can draw the weakest member of the opposing team's secondary. But whenever he's had to play more snaps as more of a go to receiver, things really haven't worked out.

I don't know what the Jets will do with him, as their receivers are mostly guys that have bounced around, haven't consistently put up big numbers, or otherwise have been a little banged up. But he's unlikely to have a breakout season heading into his age 33 season.

The Athletic's Connor Hughes reports Chris Hogan is "working exclusively with the first-team offense now."

The Jets seem to be in major trouble on offense. All training camp reports suggest TE Chris Herndon and slot WR Jamison Crowder have been the go-to targets for Sam Darnold, probably because the outside receivers are banged up. Breshad Perriman is having knee troubles and second-round rookie Denzel Mims has barely practiced and is in danger of missing Week 1 at this point. It's certainly possible that the Jets' three-receiver set "features" Crowder, Perriman, and Hogan to begin the season. This is another reminder that Herndon is likely being drafted too late in home fantasy leagues.

Chris Hogan caught 6-of-8 targets for 75 yards in the Jets' Week 2 loss to the 49ers.

Hogan took over as the No. 1 receiver for the Jets early in the game after Breshad Perriman left with an ankle injury. Hogan briefly went to the locker room with a rib injury but made it back to the field shortly after leaving. He could continue to see volume with Jamison Crowder and Le'Veon Bell both dealing with hamstring injuries. However, the Jets' lackluster offense is a good enough reason to leave him on waivers going forward.

Hogan's got nothing on Braxton Berrios.

Saints signed WR Chris Hogan.

Currently a lacrosse player, Hogan caught 14 passes in five appearances for a similarly-undermanned Jets receiver corps in 2020. Headed into his age-34 campaign, Hogan has just 22 catches since the end of the 2018 season. Even with the Saints' receiver corps in dire straits as it waits for Michael Thomas to return from ankle surgery, Hogan would be more of a "dirty work" addition than someone actually expected to catch passes. That's if he even makes the 53-man roster, of course. There are no fantasy ripples here.

The Saints released WR Chris Hogan.

Hogan was brought in for wide receiver depth in July, but was ultimately unable to earn a roster spot. It's possible he lands on a roster this season if a team is hit with injuries.
Someone will sign this guy.

not even a week later

Saints re-signed WR Chris Hogan.

The Saints released Hogan at final cuts but had planned to bring him back. He'll add veteran depth as they wait for Michael Thomas (ankle, reserve/PUP) to return from injury.
