2024 Team Defense & Defense by Committee Thread (1 Viewer)

For next week. I preemptively picked up Green Bay for their NYG matchup and have them paired with the Jets.

But it all might be for nought, as if I don’t win tonight with a little offensive production I will be out of the playoff race.

Other notable defenses that may be available.

I have Atlanta and Pitt in a league I’m in the playoffs and Pitt has NE Thursday

NE has Pitt on Thursday and plays good defense

Minnesota @ LV

New Orleans @ Car if they were dropped for the Detroit game

Houston @ NYJ for reasons mentioned above.

Detroit has been flailing defensively but playing for it all lately to smash the division. Could be a bounce back against Chicago.
Pburgh D should dominate in what should be a low scoring game.
NE D may not be so bad either. Three straight games of < 10 points.

I'm locked in to the same position whether I win or lose this week so looking ahead to 15-16-17 I like Layne's Packers pick but I also like the Rams. Playing better in the recent playoff push and after Baltimore in week 14 they have Washington - New Orleans -Giants for the playoffs

The schedule is good but I'm pivoting away. They have a decent pass rush but their coverage is terrible and they're a bottom quartile defense. Targeting Houston or Indy who also have good matchups.

(I'm carrying 3 DSTs....we have big rosters and I am solid everywhere)

Holding CLE for Week 17 but probably rolling with GB this week and the first two weeks of the playoffs:

14@NYG (1st)Mon 8:15 PM11.86
15TB (19th)1:00 PM11.65
16@Car (3rd)1:00 PM10.95

They've played well the last 5 weeks as a unit, especially when you adjust for the offenses they have faced. Playing great complimentary football and they have a clear path to a Wild Card berth.

DeVito, Mayfield and Young are all susceptible to subpar performances when facing tough defenses who bring pressure. GB has 8 sacks, 5 turnovers and a def TD in their last 3.
I picked up GB for this week and week 16 (I have a first round bye). Debating between LAR or ATL for week 17.

Is Dallas D droppable? they've feasted on weak teams but have been pretty bad against good ones. Remaining schedule: Philly, @ Buff, @ Mia, @, Detroit
I'm dropping them. I had planned to drop them anyway after this week, but I thought they'd do well against the Seahawks so I kept them and started them. Got me a sweet negative one point.

If Devito starts I’ll probably roll with GB on the road MNF. Only worry is Giants healthier off bye. Tyrod limits turnovers and sacks so will monitor.

I have the Saints as well at home vs. Carolina could be an option but they aren’t healthy right now and Jameis may put them into some short fields.

Tough decisions.

Just announced Devito is starting.

Picked up GB last week for this matchup. Will be difficult to go away from them although this is a classic let down moment for GB after beating KC and now heading on the road.

Also have Miami vs TN.

Hopefully they didn’t cook up too much on the bye. I did see Neal is still out which is good. Gary has been a beast. Any chance at Alexander coming back this week?

Jags D over Miami - what a terrible decision this past week. I’m cutting Jags for sure. They were terrible last night
They almost cost me the matchup and top score. Pivoting to Houston ($6) or Green Bay ($3). Still keeping Cleveland in reserve in case they get healthier.

In this league I have gotten into a pretty lucky situation. Already locked into #1 seed and a bye for week 15, so I'm left to focus on weeks 16-17 for team building. Currently have the MIA defense, but not loving their matchups of vDAL and @bal. There are some nice options on the WW, though, so I'm curious which of these you'd all recommend shooting for. (Also, I could cut Rhamondre as well as MIA and carry 2 if I really wanted.)
  • BAL - @SF, vMIA - they've been strong all year, but those are brutal matchups
  • KC - vLV, vCIN
  • BUF - @LAC, vNE - not loving the West Coast trip
  • HOU - vCLE, vTEN looks really nice, but they've had several goose eggs this season
  • GB - @CAR, @MIN
  • IND - @ATL, vLV
  • CHI - nice matchups of vARI, vATL, but I'm leery

Yep. I picked up Jags last week simply looking at week 17 at home against Panthers. Had zero intent on even considering them until that week 17. Hour before game I thought, "You know, Howell is at home and this guy can put up 28 pts. The jags are playing Browning at home." I felt the seas part before me and made the switch. I'm rage dropping Jags for Houston defense looking ahead to playoff.

Personal opinions... I stick with the set and forget defenses like Dallas, Baltimore, Miami. Etc even with tough matchups. All year we've seen a number of low scoring ugly games.

I dropped Baltimore because of the bye and the tougher schedule in favor of KC. I loved my KC pick up originally because they play New England in the first week of the fantasy playoffs. Now I have a bye so I would just use them for LV and the Bengals both at home. The problem is KC is getting beat up with injuries and they have done nothing the last three weeks. I'm wondering if I should just pick up Baltimore again.

Am I crazy to consider dropping the Dallas D to pick up Houston??? Talk me down from the ledge...
Next 4:
DAL - PHI, BUF, MIA, DET
HOU - NYJ, TEN, CLE, TEN
I'm dropping Dallas. I had planned to drop them this week even assuming they did well against the Seahawks, which of course they did not do.

Houston has a nice gauntlet of subpar QBs, which is always one thing I look for in a DST

No problem here. That schedule is brutal. Most leagues are done by wel 18, but if it counts for anything the Washington matchup is decent. The rest? Yuck

I’m looking at a similar situation.

Both Buffalo and Philly are available and have tough matchups this next week so may be bypassed. I may try to get both.

Philly vs NYG week 16
Buffalo vs NE week 17

@Polish Hammer the other beauty of some of these matchups as we get to the end of the season is these teams like the Giants and New Englands and Carolina’s of the world, might just be seeing that low draft pick dangling in the mirror and let of the gas a bit… even though some of them don’t seem to have any gas anyways.

I dropped Baltimore for KC. I'm hoping for some bad weather weeks 16 and 17. I think they are getting Nick Bolton back soon which should help.

Dropped DAL and NO. Running with HOU and Indy rest of season.

NO hasn’t been putting up the numbers they had been, and Jameis is likely to put them in some negative game scripts.

Dallas matchups are horrible ROS.

For clarity:

The Fantasy Points Allowed to DT/DST is NOT a ranking of defense.

It represents the "most generous" offenses. The teams that can't score, turn the ball over, give up sacks, and make us hate to watch football. We're looking at you Tim Boyle/Trevor Siemian/Zach Wilson.

I have Buffalo and Dallas D. I traded for Dallas D right before week 1. I would hate to drop them but am considering it. FBG In Season Rest of year still has both of those Ds as Top 5. Am I crazy for considering keep Dallas and dropping Buffalo for Houston?

Have been riding KC since like week 5. First year in a long time I havent really streamed defense. Need it this week though. Have to win to get in. Picked up Green Bay vs NYG. Paid extra FAAB to make sure I got them. Their playoff schedule looks decent too but need to get there first.

Week 15

IDK probably GB v TB, though HOU at TEN and CLE v CHI are good options as well (the latter depends on Myles Garrett being closer to 100%.)

Week 16

I like both GB at CAR and HOU v CLE but likely the Packers for both of the first two rounds

Championship Week

CLE v NYJ is the chalk play but keeping my eye on the Texans (HOU v TEN again, this time at home.)

You gotta let go of consensus ranks this time of year and go with what your eyes tell you. Cowboys are unlikely to be elite v good offenses. They're great at beating up weak sisters at home.

Holding Miami and GB right now, but also looking at both PHI (who probably was dropped after getting crushed by SF) and CHI for weeks 16 and 17 who have:

* PHI: NYG, AZ
* CHI: AZ, ATL

CHI D is looking pretty good. Think that entire team finishes rather strong.

I've got Miami for week 15, and then Philly for week 16 and 17. But Philly has worst pass D in the league and they give up a lot of points. Thinking of pivoting to GB (at Carolina, at Minnesota). Hard to give up on Philly but they just don't have a great defense.

I have Buffalo and Dallas D. I traded for Dallas D right before week 1. I would hate to drop them but am considering it. FBG In Season Rest of year still has both of those Ds as Top 5. Am I crazy for considering keep Dallas and dropping Buffalo for Houston?
I dropped Dallas this morning. Going with Houston and Indy the rest of the way.

Drafted Dallas, and they’ve been great fun this year - but they’ve really underperformed in “bad matchups” all year. @BUF could be a decent matchup in week 15 though.

You like their week 17 game at MIN?
That might be a game you could stream a different D , but i like the games before wk 17

Vikings offense has 7 turnovers and 7 sacks allowed the last 2 weeks, and they haven't been able to run the ball all season

But with JJ back maybe they right the ship - KOC will announce his starting QB today

Houston and Indy are what I currently have. Dropped Philly 2 week’s ago and thought about stashing them for the upcoming matchup against the giants, but a league mate picked them up today.

Houston gets Hack Wilson this week. Jets are on the verge of the big quit. News this week was terrible from beat reporters and i wouldn’t be surprised to see this team quit on Wilson and Saleh. A defensive TD against the Jets is always 50/50.

Philly vs NYG week 16
Buffalo vs NE week 17
Got Philly for week 16, but missed on Buffalo due to having no Faab.

Still might grab LAR for their week 17 matchup against NYG.

Which would give me back to back NYG games. Though the rams haven’t been spectacular scoring wise all year… so it’s not a lock for a great matchup. But if NYG stick with Devito he just seems to be a sack machine and they may have nothing to play for or maybe even playing for a better pick.

Matchups are key, but so too is health, momentum and motivation, especially late season when those factors can swing wildly from earlier in the year. I have the Eagles rostered (for wk 16 v. NYG) and staring at the Bills on the wire (for wk 17 v. NE), but feeling not great about both D's right now, in general. Injuries and loss of their 2022 Coordinators seem to have those D's leaning more on reputation than output this year.

I have the bye week 15, so I'm looking at 16 and 17.

Currently, I have:

Week 16: NYJ vs WAS
Week 17: JAX vs CAR

Teams on the wire:

Week 16: DEN (NE), PHI (NYG), WAS (NYJ), GB (CAR)
Week 17: BUF (NE), LAR (NYG)

Would you grab any of those to take their place? I'm leaning just going against NE both times.

Obvious point but one that I keep reminding myself. When it comes to the postseason, there is no week 16 without winning in week 15. Plan accordingly, having a perfect setup doesn't do any good if you got bumped out of it a week earlier.

I also lucked into a bye, so don't care about this week or week 15. I'm currently going with

Week 16 - Broncos home vs Patriots
Week 17 - 49ers at Commanders

Some possibilities on the WW
16 - Eagles home vs Giants, Rams home vs Saints, Cowboys at Dolphins, Packers at Panthers
17 - Eagles home vs Cardinals, Rams at Giants, Cowboys home vs Lions, Packers at Vikings
