Yeah, as if we don't know of the political leanings of big cities which overwhelmingly tilt democratic in every election. I have seen little evidence of any prosecutorial ethics recently. Like the prosecutor who refused to charge Jessie Smollett. Or the prosecutor who charged Rittenhouse. Prosecutors have become 100 percent political in recent years, more specifically in big urban locations. It is really a slap in the face towards good honest government which is supposed to embrace equal treatment under the law. The leftist war on conservative beliefs is quite obvious. Just witness the crap that Neil Young is pulling on Spotify in his war against Joe Rogan.

Stock futures. Neil Young lost 600K a year in income too. Looks like a lose, lose.
Also a business decision. Spotify knows Rogan is way more popular than Young. So after the ultimatum Spotify let Young walk as losing Rogan would have cost more.

For some liberals/progressives like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, standing on principle and doing what they feel is the right thing counts more than monies received for leaving their songs on Spotify.

Another Fun fact:
Spotify is a for profit business. They chose Rogan over Young for that reason. If you look at their numbers for Rogan and Young. Young leaves they lose a little, Rogan leaves they lose a lot. So it was a no-brainer business.
Rogan has a young and growing audience and is the future. Young and Mitchell`s audiences are old and dying off as they both are in their late 70s. So the upside is not there.

Yeah, and let's see how well their profit business fares if other well known artists follow suit (particularly younger artists).
And Spotify is the top trending topic on Twitter right now, which may not be a good thing for this profit oriented company.

Was I arguing otherwise? Of course they have that right and by the same token (if you check the Twitter link I posted above) you will see a lot of folks saying they are cancelling their Spotify account and/or uninstalling the app. For a more detailed look at that:

Of course, whether this boycott (like any other) has any actual long term impact remains to be seen.

You seem invested or happy that Young pulled his music. I feel that people should be free to be able to hear Young and or Rogan.
Now Young said he does not want to censor Rogan.
Young criticized Spotify for reducing the quality of their sound files “down to 5% of the music’s content.” “Amazon, Apple Music, and Qobuz deliver up to 100% of the music today and it sounds a lot better than the ####ty, degraded and neutered sound of Spotify,” he writes. “If you support Spotify, you are destroying an art form. Business over art. Spotify plays the artists’s music at 5% of its quality and charges you like it was the real thing.”

The Rogan vs. Young debate isn’t as interesting to me as the open letter that seemed to be the catalyst in this. It “call[ed] on Spotify to immediately establish a clear and public policy to moderate misinformation on its platform.”
Is this an unreasonable request? Maybe the “immediately” part is, but as an overall concept, it seems reasonable to me.

Spotify can decide what they want to do, but people like Joe Rogan are actively helping Covid kill more Americans.

The idea that there is some ministry of truth is the oldest tool by authoritarian rule in the book. Yes, it warrants comparison to authoritarian government when suppression of speech is so widely pervasive. Because the government says something does not make it gospel. Misinformation is not the enemy of the people. Not being able to speak out and question government, that is far more dangerous. The left use to understand this.

It is very unlikely that these medical and science experts as well as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell are in on a left-wing government conspiracy to establish authoritarian rule.
It is more of a national socialistic rule in which authoritarian government uses their corporate allies to perform their dirty work because the constitution disallows the government from doing it for now. Democrats would love to change that.
