How many receptions did Ryan Mathews have in college? How many did he have in his Rookie year?
With a different coaching staff and without a 3rd round receiving back on the roster? Who cares?
Yeah, Gordon will never be able to catch passes or pass block.
obviously, I would rather he be bell if we're talking ppr, but you can still get 20 carries playing just a third of the snaps, and gordon has the talent to maximize those 20 carries, if that's what it came down to.
I think matthews barely played half the snaps and he had a very high carry/snap ratio -- one of the highest in the league.
I'll look up a couple weeks
matthews obviously missed time last year, so he only ended up playing in 6 games on only 15% of the team's total snaps for the year, but got 74 carries on those snaps, so if you triple his participation you'd get 224 carries on only 45%.
224 isn't fantastic, but it gets you in the ballpark, and that's still on less than half the total snaps, which is my point.
week 11 he got 16 carries on only 31 snaps, which was 43% of their total snaps.
he didn't have a lot of carries in his few games last year, but if you want to go back and look at 2013, these are the snaps he got in every week he had 19+ carries:
35 (49%) 40 (53%) 34 (48%) 36 (55%) 42 (58%) 37 (51%) 41 (57%) 37 (51%)
that was 190 carries over 8 games, averaging right about half the snaps.
edit: and he logged about 1000 total yards in those 8 games
I understand we all want the ppr, but it's not a perfect world.
also, as I mentioned above, their line should start the season much better off than it was last year
I googled up a couple summaries
Since the merger in 1970, not one single team had to deal with the type of adversity the San Diego Chargers’ offensive line faced in 2014. The Bolts became the only team in those 44 years to ever have to start five centers as injuries ravaged the position. Furthermore, two stalwarts for nearly a decade (Nick Hardwick and Jeromey Clary) virtually missed the entire season, making
Johnnie Troutman the longest tenured member of the line even though he only joined the team in 2012 and missed that entire season recovering from a pectoral injury.

The San Diego Chargers added a versatile and imposing figure to their offensive line Tuesday, agreeing to terms with guard
Orlando Franklin on a five-year contract. The 6-7, 320-pounder adds even more beef to a massive line that features the 6-9, 330-pound
King Dunlap and 6-5, 339-pound
D.J. Fluker.
Originally a second round selection (46th overall) out of Miami by the Denver Broncos in 2011, Franklin played right tackle his first three seasons before kicking inside to guard in 2014. He burst onto the scene as a difference maker his rookie year, named to Football Outsiders All-Rookie Team as he helped the Broncos lead the NFL in rushing with a franchise-record 164.5 yards per game. Franklin now reunites with Head Coach Mike McCoy, who was his offensive coordinator his first two years in the league.
