WR Tyreek Hill, MIA (1 Viewer)

I love women and treat them with respect but if I ever lost control and did something like that to my wife, I'd mostly be worried she'd snuff me out in my sleep.

Why is it ALMOST always a WR that has these issues?
These elite WRs often have ego issues, many are wired a certain way that lets them compete at the highest level on the field. They have to believe that they are the best on the field and win in every situation. They believe they are always open and will always dominate their opponent. Unfortunately many seem to have issues off the field as well where they think they can get away with anything and everything. What helps them excel and dominate on the field, doesn't translate well to their real life.

Let's catch up for some who have missed the more recent news stories to pop out of the life of Tyreek Hill.
There is quite a growing list of reported recklessness that surrounds Hill since he arrived in Miami

-10 Children, 4 in the last year
-A woman breaking her leg in his back yard at a pick up football game
-House catching on fire
-Divorce papers are filed that he denies he actually is getting divorced
-Fight with the moving company
-Boating incident as well, assault

And this is what is being reported and you have to wonder how many things also go on under "reckless behavior" or actions and we know nothing about it.
If we know all these things, what else does Hill engage in that would be the final straw to where Miami would need to step in and possibly part ways with him sooner vs later?
If this list were for an entire NFL team you would say that's a lot but 1 player...

So far, his reckless behavior has led to his 2 best seasons in the NFL at ages 28 and 29!

He just turned 30, I think he has 1 more great season then a decline. A good comp might be Steve Smith who had 3 1,000 yard seasons after turning 30, including a probowl year at age 32. Of note, Waddle was extended and Miami brought in a good TE receiving threat and competition at WR #3. He's unlikely to get close to 2,000 yards in 2024.

It's a lot of stuff but none of it is really concerning and I am guessing we know pretty much all of it since people are constantly trying to find dirt on him. I mean you list a disagreement with a moving company on his list of reckless behavior. That seems to be scraping the bottom.

You can pick any of the listed reports you like
You feel he's targeted more than most by the media, did I read that correctly?
It's just a lot of weird stuff and there are entire teams that don't have a list this long and he's just 1 player.
I'm starting to have some concerns as a Miami fan

I wouldn’t say targeted so much as TMZ and the like keep an extra close eye on him. I don’t think him having a ton of kids is a concern for the Dolphins.

Don't think these picks by Miami aren't indicative of "concern" on their part about Hill and his off field behaviour. He is Mecurial at best outside practice and games. In practice and games I do not see anything you can complain about. One of the Hardest workers on the team. Jibes with McDaniel, and sets an "on field" example that being a superstar still means you have to work at it. He wants to have 2K yards receiving so what is not to like. Still Miami has a lot of "high price" guys who will have decisions coming soon as their rookie contract guys need their extensions.

That being said, Waddle needs to show a little more this year for Miami to be comfortable with Hill being on the other side of 30. He is always hurt while Hill plays through injuries. Miami drafted some guys that can play WR and compliment what hill and waddle do. If waddle can put it back together like his rookie year then Hill becomes a luxury and if his off field antics get worse or start to bleed into his onfield performance then when it is finacially feasable for them to part ways, Miami will.

Hill, Armstead, and chubb are the old guard taking up cap space but at the moment they are worth it. IF hill goes psycho, Armstead keeps not being available, or Chubb doesn't come back from this injury, they are next on the chopping block. With Holland, Phillips, Waddle, and Tua all in line for extentions, the money is going to have to come from somewhere, and Wilkins and Hunt were the casualties this year, and X being let go was to pay for Tua and the draft class.

Sounds very much like how Antonio Brown's last number of years have gone. Very unfortunate for these talented players.

Miami just praying he can hold on one more year and not do anything that might get him suspended or in jail.

Side note - he also said he wants to retire and be a pornstar.

Small correction - MIA picked up Waddles 5th year. Wasn't a true extension. They will have to figure out something going forward as he becomes a UFA next year I do believe.

He himself admitted on The Pivot podcast he is trying to correct his off field issues. He had off field issues back in KC in 2019 with alleged child abuse plus some other crap.

This has been an ongoing issue for him for years.

Yes we are aware of his checkered past. He’s probably not a good person. Certainly wasn’t before. I’m just saying a lot of what’s cited in that post isn’t very concerning to me. Would your employer have a problem with you if your house caught on fire?

I heard this and forgot to add it in my initial post up top but I'm glad you mentioned it.
The guy could(stress that word) be showing early signs of CTE but he doesn't often get hit directly because of his speed.
And we have no real basis to say that is actually what is happening but it's hard to explain all these little side stories that happen in his life.
I don't hear about Jaylen Waddle having these kind of issues.

Too young, give him time - He might not be a 10 kids, 4 moms kinda guy but I bet he can consistently get you 7 kids with 3 moms... we will see if he has a 4th year breakout.

No wonder he runs so freaking fast, he has 3 legs ;)

all those kids kept Philip Rivers playing until he was 39! I expect the same from Cheetah ;)
At least it was with the same woman - his wife.

All jokes aside, I think there is a serious issue here with Tyreek as there are more and more issues that keep popping up. I do hope he can work on his off field stuff as he mentioned himself. I do worry long term about him.

Tyreek Hill: 'I would like to retire in Miami, I want to stay forever'

I think he has 3 years left in Miami. One more all-pro, then a decline.

>>After two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, wide receiver Tyreek Hill isn’t looking to play anywhere else anytime soon — or ever.

“I love Miami. I love every bit of it,” Hill said in an appearance on the “Around the Bar” podcast. “My wife loves it, my kids love it, my mom loves it. It’s just a beautiful city to live in, man. There’s so much stuff to do.

“I would like to retire in Miami, but we all know how the NFL is, how jobs go, and people getting promotions over here and — you know — we understand that.

But Miami is a great city, man. I love the team I play on, love the guys in the locker room, love the head coach, love the GM. So that means sign me. I love all you guys so much, I want to stay in Miami forever, man. Keep me there.”

Hill’s production on the field has been nothing short of spectacular in Miami. In his first season with the Dolphins, he set single-season franchise records for receptions (119) and receiving yards (1,710). In year two, he tied his reception record and set the yardage record even higher with 1,799 receiving yards.

But Hill’s long-term future with the team is still in doubt. He turned 30 earlier this year and is due to count $31,323,750, $34,243,750, and $56,308,750 against the Dolphins’ salary cap in the next three seasons. While there’s no doubt he’ll be in Miami for 2024, the team could save nearly $23 million for 2025 by parting with him next offseason and it could save $45 million in 2026.

A contract extension for Hill could drastically cut those cap hits, but will the Dolphins be ready to dish out another pricy contract to a wide receiver on the wrong side of 30, especially if it gives one to Jaylen Waddle first?

All that could mean that Hill’s tenure in Miami ends as early as next offseason, despite his love of the Dolphins.

It’s amazing what we’re building in Miami,” Hill said on the podcast. “Our quarterback is special. Tua Tagovailoa is special. Jaylen Waddle is special. Y’all already know Jalen Ramsey is special, so he’s gonna be the leader of the defense. We got a real special team — [I’m] very proud, very honored to be one of the leaders on this team.”

As for when his retirement could be coming?

“I’m trying to use these legs until these legs don’t work no more,” Hill said.<<

Jerry Rice managed to play to/past 40 IIRC, not common of course and i haven't seen Hill slow down at all.
I would not say Hill has the best set of hands but he is an explosive playmaker, reminds me a lot of Mark Duper.
I would prefer Miami had him than not have him but he's had a lot of fires away from the field.

I agree with @Gatorman that there is nothing to complain about in terms of practice, production, game play, he's one of the best I've ever seen.
It was a let down to go to the Jets and he wasn't able to play last year, Waddle had an outstanding game as I recall in a 30-0 blowout.

Every time I seem his thread bumped, I cringe, hoping his house didn't get burned down with him in it or he isn't having an issue with his parenting.

He talked about retiring at the end of his contract, but seems like that is on the back burner now. Guy is so much fun to watch, so as a fan and dynasty owner, hope he is around a while and doesn't go full blown Antonio Brown crazy.

Saying the right things. Nobody wants to hear their star player say he’s thinking about another city. Despite eventful offseasons, everything he says seems to indicate a guy who gets it. There was an interview last month about how McDaniel called Tyreek out to the whole team for his poor play in the playoff loss. Tyreek said he appreciated it because that’s what coaches are supposed to do and he promised he would get better from it. He said that the stars of the team need to be held accountable for their play as much as anyone on the team. He sounds like a great teammate at least. Not sure I would want to be friends though.

It's nice when a player says this, but It's not like he is ready to give Miami a discount when the next contract comes along. If he is willing to give a "hometown" discount I am all for it, but I am sure (like X Howard) if the money is more somewhere else, he likely goes somewhere else. All the Florida and Texas teams have a little more wiggle room bc of no state income taxes, but there are a lot of big contracts coming up for guys Miami drafted. Reek hopefully will play ball with Miami in that case but I really don't expect it. He left arguably the best team of this era to get paid.
