WR Cooper Kupp, LAR (2 Viewers)

McVay: “It’s just tricky. There’s a difference between ‘return to play’ and ‘return to performance’. We want ‘return to performance’ for Cooper Kupp, and we know how special of a player, how special of a person he is. We want to make sure that we’re smart with that and getting him back to feeling like the Cooper Kupp that we all know — and that he is able to play the way he is capable of, whenever that is. Whether that’s Sept. 10 or not, we’ll continue to monitor that and control what we can control.”
Coachspeak translator: out week 1, maybe week 2.

I went against my better judgement and took Kupp at 16 in a standard league prior to the set back. Should have just taken my guy Garret Wilson instead. I offered my Kupp straight up for Wilson and he responded interesting let's talk tomorrow so maybe I can get out of this mess.

Everytime I take "value" instead of taking the guys I like I always regret it.

16 Team TE-P. Draft started Aug 21

1.04 J Jefferson
1.05 J Chase
1.10 T Hill
1.13 C Kupp
1.14 S Diggs
1.16 C Lamb
1.17 AJ Brown

I get a real Cooper Kupp rookie year vibe from Puka Nacua. If you've got Kupp you better have Pacua handcuffed
I don’t think that’s a thing.

I say this as a person who loves Puca & rosters him in 2 dynasty leagues.

I’m as high on Puca as anyone. If Kupp is out a few weeks he’ll get some run as the WR2-3 behind Van Jefferson, yes.

I do not see him as a “handcuff” to Kupp. I don’t think that person exists just yet.

Clayton Gray had this to say:
Wide receivers, on average, have 13% of re-injuring the same hamstring in-season. That percentage doubles for WRs over the age of 28. Kupp is 30 years old. Of the NFL WRs who were over 28 and did sustain a re-injury, the average time missed was 7 weeks. From when Kupp injured his hamstring to when he returned to practice, it was ~3 weeks, meaning the data points to him missing another 3-4 weeks. Week 1 seems unlikely at this point. Taking all of this into consideration, personally, he is no longer a top-5 pick for me. But because Kupp offers massive upside, I'd take a swing in the early/mid second with the understanding that there is an inherent risk here.

He sees week 1 as a “longshot”.

I’m inclined to agree.

I own shares but probably fair to say this visit to the specialist puts him in latter day Julio Jones falcon mode for kupp: once the rubber band gets stretched, it never quite goes back to what it was

I have quite a few shares of Kupp this year. I really thought this was going to be a bad Rams team that would have to throw a ton.

This injury scares me, I don't think this is a miss a couple weeks and be fine type of injury. This feels like Calvin Johnson the later years, where he might be active and only be a decoy and getting 0 or 1 point in your lineup. I am nervous that is injury lingers all year and once the Rams are out of it he is shut down.

I past on him last night in the late second in a best ball league and regret it. I took Olave who I love. I think the sweet spot for Kupp is mid second after the Pollard, Barkley, Adams, Wilson tier. I usually don't like dealing with players coming into the season with soft tissue injuries. I am less nervous about him missing a game or two to start the season and more nervous they may shut him down later n the season. All that being said, this is best ball and I had an opportunity to build a unique lineup. If he is available come playoff time my team could dominate.

not touching him anywhere within reasonable adp outcomes. too much risk. guy can't get on the field. certainly not in the first two rounds. wouldn't take him in the third either.
"Guy can't get on the field"

-You can't accumulate all this, be an All Pro and a Super Bowl Champ and be unable to compete.
I understand how you feel, last year was a major bummer and his season was cut short by injury and we don't actually know his status for Week 1 do we?
This guy has single handedly won leagues for some folks
Maybe we are well beyond that point now but I think it's a bit much to categorize him like he's Charles Rogers (2nd overall pick Detroit '03)

He went mid 2nd in a high stakes PPR draft tonight. Love Kupp but well before I'd consider him with latest news.

To me, this pushes him down to the McLaurin/Jeudy/JT territory IMO based on what we know now visiting a specialist to figure out what's causing issue. And I feel more confident with younger Jeudy &JT situations.

Usually don't anyway, but not touching McLaurin with turf toe (going well before I'd even consider him). Question how effective he'll be, believe Dotson's the better WR and 1st year QB

Had Kupp last year and was burned by his truncated season. Told myself that I wouldn’t have him on any teams this year. Never took him in any mocks. But god help me, when he was staring at me at pick #29 (0.5 PPR, 12 teams) , I bit. The price may be getting low enough that a decent risk/reward tolerance can handle it.

Fell to 2.12 tonight in a balanced 12T PPR.

I don't think I'd touch him till 4th currently.

Sadly I rolled the dice on him at 1.08 last Saturday morning.,

I'm not talking about what he's done in the past, which is legendary. I am talking about now. He couldn't get on the field all summer and now has reaggravated his hamstring injury. I don't think he'll be on the field for at least four weeks. And then there is a monumental risk he gets injured again. I'm out.

Also: 30 years old.

I have t-shirts older than that

Whos selling low?
I'm in a 12T keeper .5 ppr and have been offered Andrew and Dotson.

They are saying day to day. No mention of shutting him down. Anyone risking it?

Every time I see this thread bumped, I keep expecting to see he's been put on the PUP list or something. Sucks, for a couple of hours the other night, I thought I had a relative steal in the middle of round 2.

Way to stick to your guns
I appreciate you clarifying
Cheers Bud

I feel the same way about a lot of threads...for example what could there be to discuss about Bijan Robinson at this point?
It's mostly going to be hype and he's racking up 2,000 yds and 15 TDs, that's the expectations I read.

Would people take him at the 2/3 turn in a 10 team league?
I just did that today in my daughter’s league that I help her in. Drafted Jefferson, then ARSB and Kupp at the turn.

I was hesitant, but just thinking about how strong that start was just put me over the top.

I bet their hamstrings are in bad shape.

How did Kupp get so old? I feel like Deandre Hopkins has been around forever, and he's one year older.

He was an old rookie, graduated high school at 19 I believe and then stayed through his college senior year so he could break a lot of college receiving records. IIRC he was a 24 year old rookie, which was one reason he wasn’t more highly thought of in fantasy drafts despite video game numbers in college.
