Steelers Receivers (1 Viewer)

I just went over to footballoutsiders.com and saw the snap percentages for the Jets game

Wallace 62%

Brown 62%

Sanders 61%

week 1 vs the Broncos

Brown 90%

Wallace 86%

Sanders 74%

it seems like the Steelers went with 2WRs more often on Sunday, and then they rotated the top 3 WRs. This is definitely unusual. Can Steelers homers chime in? Is this a trend or mirage?

My take, and its pure speculation, is that the Steelers were up 20-10 from about 9 mins left in the 3rd. The Jets had shown nothing against the Pitt D and Steelers probably didn't want Ben getting banged up. So they went to more ball control and ran it. Since they weren't pass plays, they just rotated all 3 WRs to keep them fresh.

Again pure speculation.

From this article ...

• Offensive coordinator Todd Haley wanted to show the Jets’ defense different looks during the opening drive, and he sure did. On the 10-play drive to open the game that resulted in a 45-yard Shaun Suisham field goal, Haley didn’t have the same personnel grouping or formation on the field once. He did have two-receiver sets on the field for eight of the nine plays, but never the same grouping.

• A week after using the three-receiver set 51 times, the Steelers surprisingly scaled back the formation against a depleted Jets secondary by using three wide receivers only 14 times.
