The Pittsburgh Steelers backfield could be facing legal trouble.
Detective Brian Kohlhepp of the Ross Township, Pennsylvania Police Department confirmed to NFL Media that running backs Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were pulled over Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. ET. They, along with an unidentified female passenger in the backseat, were taken into custody and admitted to marijuana possession.
A traffic officer spotted Bell's black Chevy Camaro after smelling marijuana. A medium-sized bag with about 20g of marijuana was recovered in the car. Kohlhepp anticipates that misdemeanor marijuana possession charges will be filed against Bell, Blount and the woman, but that has not happened yet.
Kohlhepp tells NFL Media that Bell was driving the car. Kohlhepp also anticipates charging Bell with driving under the influence, who was taken to a local hospital to have blood drawn. Summons and charges would be delivered through the mail. The police noted that all were cooperative and quickly released.
If formally charged, both players would be subject to the league's substance abuse policy.
