If the 49ers gave Wallace a 6 year $50M contract could they fit it in? I'm thinking maybe a $20M signing bonus and a low 2012 salary so the cap hit is under $10M this year. By giving up the 1st they'd be saving on that salary. Maybe the Steelers match a deal like that but I imagine it would be worth a try.Washington isn't going crazy. We'll see. I suppose it's possible if they really play with the numbers. SF has about 15 million to play with. They need to re-sign Alex. That's going to eat up most of the cash. Might sign another wr or three and need to replace Ginn (or re-sign him) and Snyder at guard. They can always fill in holes with the draft but they don't have loads to spend. But we'll see how they structure Smith and the others. They've been brilliant working the cap thus far but I think they're just going to sign another couple lower level guys. Aside from Alex Smith I think the biggest name they'll grab is maybe going to be one of the Robinson/Manningham tier. Of course if they don't bring back Alex and roll with the Kaepernick (pghrob's post hinted at the possibility) they can easily work Wallace into the mix.If the 49ers gave Wallace a 6 year $50M contract could they fit it in? From what I read, Smith is ok with the 3 year offer he received. If he comes back I hope it's at a reasonable rate since it would suck if the 49ers lost out on Wallace to re-sign Smith. We'll see. Was Moss the best FA WR out there? Is that WR a big enough name for ya, Drummer? The guy is 35 and can still run a sub 4.4 40... And he is Randy freaking Moss!
Negative... but I'd argue a hellava lot better than what they got... plus I doubt they would get anything close to the contract they managed to get for Moss. Was Moss the best FA WR out there? Is that WR a big enough name for ya, Drummer? Hopefully, the 49ers still plan to sign a WR FA & also spend an early pick on one. I'm not sure Moss will even make the roster, he looked terrible with the Titans & that was over a year ago. It's a nice story but I expect very little.Negative... but I'd argue a hellava lot better than what they got... plus I doubt they would get anything close to the contract they managed to get for Moss. Was Moss the best FA WR out there? Is that WR a big enough name for ya, Drummer? At Moss' age? Even a lazy Crabs has a lot more upside. How is Moss gonna react when Smith dumps off while he is wide open deep? Like Moss, giving up on plays that pretty much made him a reality show prospect. BTW, I think Kaep can throw 17 TD's this season after a full off-season.Negative... but I'd argue a hellava lot better than what they got... plus I doubt they would get anything close to the contract they managed to get for Moss. Was Moss the best FA WR out there? Is that WR a big enough name for ya, Drummer? Nah, not if he reflects the coaching philosophy like Smith had. Plus, he doesn't have BOOOO's in his head. Smith in second year in his second offense threw 16 INTs. Compare 2006 49ers to 2012. Of course if they went after and won the Manning sweepstakes, 17 TDs by mid-season would be a safe bet.I do too...but I also think Kap would turn the ball over 20 times. At Moss' age? I"m not gonna bother getting into that pissing match with you... Moss can start the season red hot and you still wouldn't admit that you pegged him wrong (dump offs or no dump offs). We've seen the Moss that gives up on plays and is disruptive to the team, but we've also seen the Moss that can put up 3TDs in a single game and make it look easy (as recent as a few years ago). The question is which one will show up? I don't know and neither do you.How can you say that Crab has the most upside at this point in his career? What are you basing that on? His younger age?'drummer said:At Moss' age? Even a lazy Crabs has a lot more upside. How is Moss gonna react when Smith dumps off while he is wide open deep? How am I pegging Moss wrong here? Just ask Cris Carter what he thought of Moss a couple of weeks ago. He said Moss had "Quit" in him too. Can you tell me why he wasn't in the NFL last season? I mean, you think I am getting in a pissing match with you over a WR who is on his last rodeo a year after getting kicked off the horse. VD was thought of being Crabs like early in his career. Most 49er fans thought he was going to bust or not live up to his draft status. Give Crabs a real QB or at least one that isn't afraid to throw into tight coverage. I'm surprised 49er fans give up on him while watching him snatch Smith's sailing passes that he has to jump for while adjusting to it's inaccuracy. Well, I'm not toooooo surprised.I"m not gonna bother getting into that pissing match with you... Totally agree on Kap... should be an interesting camp.
If Moss signed with SEA 49er fans would go "BWAHAHAHA CARROLL IS AN IDIOT BWAHAHAHA MOSS IS SOOOOO DONE BWAHAHAHA!" Now I catch hell because I didn't go "ZOMG! MOSS!"Sheesh.I really, really, hate to do this but I'm going to side with drummer. I think Crabtree offers more upside at this point in their careers. And it's not because I think Crabtree is a future stud. I think Moss has a giant fork in his back. But at the contract they signed him to it's a worthy gamble and I'll be happy to be proven wrong.
Eric Davis tweeted Alex is signing with the Cardinals 3 years 30 million. No clue how well plugged in Davis is to things.BTW, buddy of mine on another board posted a twitter rumor of Smith looking at a 3 year deal with AZ. Maybe the perceived lock at he being the starter in SF is not so set in stone.
Davis does the radio broadcast with Ted Robinson (who I think is doing the Pirabas tennis this week), so this could be credible. Or in my case, INCREDIBLE.Eric Davis tweeted Alex is signing with the Cardinals 3 years 30 million. I'm starting to think that a real possibility. But I can only dream at this point.I hope so. Manning time!Eric Davis tweeted Alex is signing with the Cardinals 3 years 30 million. Alex did well last year but I'm not going to weep if he leaves. However, I don't think Kaepernick is ready by any stretch. Maybe they'll pick up Hasslebeck if the Titans get Manning.Eric Davis tweeted Alex is signing with the Cardinals 3 years 30 million. Ah, good catch. Thank you. Well drummer can go cry now as it seems Smith is definitely returning.Eric Davis did not tweet that. He re-tweeted some random guy with 100 tweets saying he had a "source" that said that. Not happening.
So the only options for you are HEELLL YEEAAA or MEH? No wonder you were such a killjoy during this past amazing season. I'm basing my opinion on the glowing reports that Moss received during his workout with NO/SF and also the fact that SF evaluated him and felt the urgency to sign him to a favorable contract before he could leave the field on the same day as his workout. I have faith in Baalke and Co. that they did their due diligence and that they know something that we all don't. Why would they (especially Harbaugh) welcome someone that they feel will become a cancer to the team into their organization with such high expectations (read: pressure) for the upcoming season? But you would rather have Crab who disappeared in the NFC championship game over someone that is probably a first ballot HOF (pending how the rest of his career pans out) and who's got the resume to prove it... and who still seems to be in football shape? You can't blame Smith for that game b/c Davis went off that day, so you can't tell me that Smith couldn't deliver it... Now, to be clear... I'm just talking about this upcoming season. Obviously, Moss is an old man so of course Crab is the guy to want for the future...Are you saying you don't like this signing?By the way... in the Manning thread someone posted a recent article about 2 more teams (outside of DEN/TEN/MIA) have entered into the discussions....
