*Official 2015 Philadelphia Eagles* - Winning when it doesnt count (1 Viewer)

@ProFootballTalk: NFL teams can't meet with La'el Collins yet, and here's why http://t.co/RVRersyFqM
“Clubs are prohibited from visiting a player who was eligible for the 2015 Draft at his campus or residence if the player has withdrawn from school and final exams have yet to conclude at the school,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT via email. “This includes drafted players, any undrafted players that have signed as free agents, and any undrafted players that have yet to sign.”
They can meet with him literally anywhere that isn't on campus or his residence.

The most glaring worry for me is the OL depth for sure but I don't blame Kelly as I don't think any of the lineman in the 1st or 2nd rounds were BPA over Agholor and Rowe. It just really sucks that Clemmings and a few other guys went right before the Eagles in the 4th. You'll be relying on Andrew Gardner and a disgruntled Evan Mathis (if he is still with the team) at the guard position. Plus a declining Jason Peters who should still play close to a Pro Bowl level for one more year. It'd be a god send if one the UDFA seem to win over the guard spot or provide much needed depth. It's a thin depth chart at arguably the 2nd most important position on the offense.
Still a chance to strike gold with Collins if he doesn't go to Buffalo or Tampa. Would completely turn our draft from a B- to an easy A by adding an extra 1st rounder, in the position we need it the most. Please Chip, find a way to get this done.
I don't see it happening. Even if he ends up not being a suspect in the murder of his ex-grilfriend it still raises doubt that enough that this guy might not be the best of persons and Kelly just doesn't take big risks like that (yeah I know, LaGarret Blount was a duck, he was also kicked off the team).

Collins may have ended up in a wrong place wrong time scenario and he could be a good guy I just don't think Kelly wants to risk it, even if it would make a world of difference to the OL depth.
I don't t hink Chip would "risk it" without looking into the kid or talking to him. We don't even know if this guy "might not be the best of persons". Do we have any other prior history or even interviews that show that he isn't a great character guy? That's not rhetorical, I'm actually not sure if he is generally viewed as a good teammate/good character guy.

Interesting...

According to multiple NFL sources, LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins will receive interest from seven teams... those seven teams that have expressed interest, aside from Buffalo and Miami … you have Detroit, St. Louis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Orleans. Those five in addition to the initial two, again, Miami and Buffalo"

He also models his game after Jason Peters. Would be a great guy to learn from. Peters should call him.

If he's innocent.

Can't believe Kelly wouldn't want such a charming guy on his team.
We may never know exactly, but the Eagles locker room didn't sound like a place dedicated to winning in last years of the Andy Reid era. As much crap as we give Chip, he really has done an amazing job to this point. There is no coach that could address all the issues and needs we have but I think we are on the right path.

I like how our training camp is set up. Most teams draft for need but I like how Chip addressed needs. Instead of taking players to fill all needs, Chip ganged up on a few key positions. Sure we missed this year on offensive linemen but damn, you have to like our chances finding some studs at linebacker and in the secondary. If this holds true and Chip has built a solid defense then next year we can focus on offensive and defensive linemen. Davis's scheme relies on having linebackers that can cover and drafting Hicks plus getting Alonzo is huge.

Offense, I like where we are. Hungry, young receiving group. A QB/RB tandem that should inspire and play their asses off for each other and the team. I can't remember a season where I felt that we might have one of the best locker rooms in franchise history. This could be huge.

But, we still have a long way to go...

Every word out of McCoy's mouth since he left the team has made it easier to let him go.

"Chip Kelly doesn't like good black players. Which is why he traded me and signed another black RB, Demarco Murray, last season's leading rusher in the NFL."

Also sounds like he wanted to be the focal point of the offense.

"I just think it was tough to be thinking every year, "Am I on the team? Am I off the team?" I guess here, it's like, "This is my team. They're giving me a lot of room to be the guy here." And that's how I like it. I want to be the guy that leads the team to victories."

The more Shady opens his mouth the better this move looks.

He is coming off as really silly and immature and starting to make me happy he's gone.

@LesBowen: Eagles sign three 2015 draft picks: Eric Rowe, Randall Evans, Brian Mihalik. Third, sixth and seventh-rounders.

I'm guessing he meant 2nd rounder.

REPORT: La'el Collins prefers to join team where he could play OT; that would maximize earnings in 2nd contract

Collins to meet with Dallas first :)

Also, Gregory and Collins share the same agent.
####. You've got to be kidding me. If Dallas gets Gregory, and then 2 guys that we want (jones and collins) I'm going to be livid. Would be 3 top 20 guys for them this year. Hopefully we at least get him in for a visit.

Where would he play on the great Dallas OL? Didn't they just pick a guy pretty early as well?

Exactly. He'd be depth there. If he wants to play, Dallas ain't it.

McCoy sounds pretty off his rocker

however, remember it is likely motivated by the fact that he never wanted to leave your team.He feels jilted, you should cut him some slacxk AND should appreciate all he has done for you.

Why did you post this in here?
You know why.
Yeah I know, although I really don't want to take a shot at Bankerguy, as he's always seemed pretty grounded, and I know that there was a little Collins talk in here.

Just struck me as odd that Cowboys fans come in here sometimes claiming that Eagles' fans are obsessed with him, yet here is a piece of Cowboys news placed here unsolicited for seemingly no great reason.

I cut him some slack the first time he went off on this ridiculous rant, because it was fresh on the heels of his departure and I figured his comments were colored by emotion. But not this time. This is a calculated character assassination. Another ugly example of Shady's immaturity, added to the tip incident and the bus incident. And those are just the ones we know about. Becoming much clearer why Chip wanted him to go, and it's got nothing to do with his running style. (Or the color of his skin.)

Didn't realize he was a cowboys fan... I guess that changes the motive behind posting it. I would post that as it does pertain to our chances of landing him, especially going to a division rival. But ya, I'm sure his motives for rushing in here and posting that were different.... especially re looking at it with the 'rub it in your face smiley face"

Regardless, let's hope he doesn't sign there and I do think it would be massive if we ended up somehow getting him.

Not a huge surprise:

CBS' Jason La Canfora says Chip Kelly was "calling all around the NFL trying to pawn [Mychal Kendricks] off for a second-round pick."

I know some may say this is purely a media made up story and this didn't happen, but I'm not willing to discount everything La Canfora/Glazer/Schefter/Etc say from now on and I think there's probably a good chance that happened.

We all know he was looking to deal him, but I'm glad at least that he sees him as a 2nd round value and didn't just accept the 5th or something that I'm sure at least one team must have offered.

My only issue with the above is the word "pawning"

I like Kendricks but that deal makes me feel like we keep him and if we got a 2 I would be OK with it...

:lmao:

Why? He wouldn't even start on that line? Whatever. Great for them. Sucks for us.

This is why:

@RapSheet: The #Cowboys deal for #LSU OL LaEl Collins is for 3 years, fully guaranteed, per source. (@NFLCharean had it first)

@AlbertBreer: Per source, La'el Collins' 3-year deal is worth about $1.7 million. It's fully guaranteed, which is believed to be unprecedented for a UDFA.

And he can negotiate a new deal after 2 years.

That's pretty good incentive to sign. This was pretty much the last thing I wanted to see happen with Collins but good for him. Let's have Fletcher knock him on his ### now.

It would seem like Jerry hit him with the "if you leave this is off the table" or else his agent would have took that deal and advised other teams. Im usually critical of some of their moves but Jerry appears to have done this one right

I guess the only way this ends up being bad is if indeed Collins was involved with this murder case but that seems to have been squashed out. Sadly the Cowboys just got better.

And his agent is a fool if he thinks he couldn't have gotten that from another team regardless of a Jerry threat
