If anyone's interested, here's a list of the top 10 teams (Still alive through week 3) with the most 'dead' money. I.e, money they spent on players that have yet to contribute a scoring effort in any week so far.

Team # Players #Cost (wasted)111216 15 $112104015 13 $108100110 13 $106109890 10 $106111618 12 $104110483 14 $102107835 11 $102101358 14 $102106109 7 $102102743 10 $100
At the other end of the spectrum is a multiple way tie. 24 teams have had contribution from all but a single $2.00 player.

I'm sitting at 8 players for a total of $37 in dead money.

3 players in $12 total dead money for me. To be fair though if Jake Locker hadnt outscored Matty Ice this week, that would be an extra $9 tacked on there.

Players that haven't scored for me:Fred JacksonPeyton HillisTaiwan JonesJustin BlackmonDonald DriverEddie RoyalMatt Prater Kansas City ChiefsThe only big regret so far is Hillis - but I can't imagine he'll be a waste all season. Blackmon's been terrible, but I could see him picking up a bit.
As a Browns fan, let me tell you - Hillis will probably net you 3 decent weeks but nothing else. He's an injury-prone fumbler and supreme locker room cancer. He got into the doghouse in Denver and was traded, he got into the doghouse in Cleveland....with two different coaches.

One of the only interesting things in this thread. I have $97 of dead money.

I, too, am lamenting the Wilson and Blackmon picks. That's $16 I'd love to have back right now.

Currently have 5 players for a total of $25 that haven't scored for me yet (Wilson $9, Blackmon $7, Mendenhall $4, Royster $3, Royal $2).

I went with just two kickers and two defenses, but have gotten double-digit points at both positions every week so far.

Ryan Tannehill has posted my highest QB score so far with 23.40 in week 2. The closest Stafford has come is the 21.10 he put up this week. No idea if Stafford is playing week 4 and he's on bye week 5, so I'm gonna need Tannehill to step up again.

I am most pleased with my TE trio of Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzalez, and Martellus Bennett. I've gotten 42, 47, and 51 points out of the TE position these first three weeks.

In all I'm very happy with the way my team has done so far, and moderately optimistic for its chances long-term.

Made it by .45 points this week. Don't see me lasting through next week, especially if Gates continues to be the giant mass of suckitude he's been so far. Out of my 23 players, only 3 haven't counted for me so far (Gabbert, Turbin, Dwyer).

I didn't know about the attitude.

Thanks. I don't know if categorically speaking, having a lot of dead money is a good thing or a bad thing. (assuming the dead money isn't because of injuries or suspensions, of course.) It may mean that you're skating on thin ice, or it could mean that if the rest of your roster starts contributing, you'll be a powerhouse.

I almost kept Wilson, but I ended up wasting even more at RB:

S. Jackson - $22 (pretty sure I dumped Lynch for him)

Blount - $6 (still think this is an okay price)

Vereen - $6 (100% waste)

Hardesty - $3 (failed gamble on T-Rich injury)

E. Royal is the only WR (7 total) or TE (3 total) who hasn't counted for me.

I've used 3 of 4 Ks and 2 of 4 D/STs.

Yeah most outside of Denver or Cleveland don't.Quick laundry list:1) In Denver, was allegedly caught messing around with one of the assistant coach's wives.2) In CLE last year, was mad a contract extension didn't get worked out in offseason, got Madden cover ego, and followed his agents advice of "calling in sick" for several weeks. Week 3 he showed up to stadium, never got out of his street clothes and left before the game ever started.3) During those weeks of calling in sick............he actually went and got married and went on a honeymoon (i think). A professional football player....got married during the middle of the season.4) Rumors leaked that he was thinking of retirement and .......get this......joining the CIA as a second career. The guy was generally regarded as a nutcase and a huge distraction in the lockerroom. The rest of the front office's knew it. It's why his market value was a mere $3 mil / 1 yr contract, instead of the 4/$36m he felt he was worth.Anyways......this doesnt have much to do with the FBG subscriber contest, so I apologize for the off-tangent.

This seems to be by far the strongest team I have had in this contest. If Britt & Mendenhall can get up to speed it should only get stronger. Ronnie Brown sucks but other than that, no real complaints

Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances? Mary: Not good. Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred? Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million. [pause] Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

$63 in "dead" money on a 30-player roster, although some of that (Colston, Hauschka, Colts D, possibly Moeaki) is close to guaranteed to produce soon. Only Vereen looks like seriously dead money.

Best value so far: Tony Gonzalez at $13. Just sayin'.

We have also had a few big names get injured early (% owned):Stafford (12.2 %)Bradshaw (2.9)Forte (5.8)F Jackson (11.7)S Jackson (8.6)Mathews (0.6)Collie (4.5)Garcon (13.8)Jennings (5.4)Maclin (5.8)Nicks (3.3)Hernandez (11.1)Keller (3.5)No one with huge ownership numbers, but it is going to effect the smaller teams more if one of their main guys is out. Throw in the duds that some other studs have had over the last couple weeks and it equals disaster for the smaller teams.I see this trend continuing until most of the bye weeks are finished. After that, the smaller teams left will be the ones who picked guys who are healthy and performing. My prediction is that scores will go back to looking more like week one for weeks 9-13. Now the trick is getting your small roster to that point of the season.
Don't forget :Spiller likely out for a week or two could cause some ripplesand defensive injuries to Jets defense (Revis) and Redskins (Orakpo, Carriker) will not only hurt teams that selected those defenses but perhaps provide a bump to offensive skill players playing those defenses
I think the impact of defensive injuries might not be as mush as you think, and in the jets case, actually makes them more valuable. When you lose a top defensive player, it makes your defense worse which means opponents keep the ball longer, generally speaking. This translates in increased opportunities to record sacks and turnovers. This could offset some of the impact in losing that key player. In the Jets case, it probably helps since Revis doesn't add much in terms if sacks and teams don't throw the ball at him often, so your not losing too many potential points to begin with.

I have to ask...why? That's 26% of your cap and minimun of $30 in dead money each week.

I see what you guys are doing here, but logically there is a difference between dead money on a guy like Evan Royster who looks useless going forward VS. Aaron Rodgers still never outscoring your other QB.

I have a ton of dead money, but on the bright side if Rodgers, Chris Johnson, Sjax, etc ever get going, I may be about the only one left with the early underachievers.

Iggy,

Here's a database query request for ya. Top 10, or 50, or 250 teams based on cumulative points scored weeks 1-3? Since no teams are on bye, and the prize money is awarded over a cumulative 3 week stretch where there are no byes, we may be able to grab an early glimpse of some of the favorite teams out there.

Thanks!

I agree. I think everybody is misusing the term dead money in here. Jacoby Ford is dead money because he has no chance of ever helping you, players who have done well but have not been needed, or players who have the potential to do well, are not. Having a lot of players who you haven't needed in the first three weeks is not a bad thing at all. That suggests that your studs are all doing well. I'd actually be more worried if I had used all my players in the first three weeks.

:goodposting: all you people with this 'dead money' should be thankful. Would you rather have one of Hillis or Royster actually counting each week so far like I have? (yes I am still alive despite crummy RBs).

1 PK = 52% survival rate

2 PK = 68%

3 PK = 74%

4 PK = 69%

5+ PK = 38%

1 D = 52%

2 D = 69%

3 D = 72%

4 D = 71%

5+ D = 46%

Looks like 3 D and 3 PK is the way to go so far.

Helu to the IR, looks like Royster's value just jumped a bit as the clear backup RB in Washington. May not be a waste of $3 after all

Regrets:

Steve Smith $5

Taiwan Jones $2

Royster $3

David Wilson $9

Cutting Harvin at the last minute

Blackmon $7

Hernandez $23 (ouch)

Steelers $5

Best calls:

Amendola $6

Flacco/Ryan QB combo

Benson $3

Bennett $4 (only player used all 3 weeks!)

Redskins $3

Week 5 is going to be brutal...my top 2 (and only solid) RBs and Hernandez are going to be on bye.

Used every week: Calvin and Owen Daniels

Unused thus far: Skelton, Tebow, Rash Jennings, Mendy, Royster, Taiwan Jones, Ronnie Brown, Steve E. Smith, Kendricks, Vinatieri, Seahawks D

Not sure any of the unused will be of any value this year. Obviously money could have been better spent elsewhere.

We'll keep fighting!

Looks like 3 D and 3 PK is the way to go so far.
I've got 4 of each at $3 each. Total scoring from those two positions has been 26, 23, and 33 points per week. Definitely liking that strategy so far!Looking Like Dead Money = $14

Wilson $9: Oops

Louis Murphy $2: The fast WR + Cam Newton combo isn't there

Justin Medlock $3: Hard to tell he's even playing

Will Get Used = $25

Alex Smith $12: surprising not used yet

Prater $3: Bironas just beat him out last week

Keller $10: Hamstring getting better. Graham carrying the load and Chandler helping too.

Jury is Still Out = $25

Rashad Jennings $9: Lottery ticket for MJD. Needs help to make an impact.

Blackmon $7: Another JAX hopeful. Laurent Robinson's concussion last week hopefully = production this week (and rest of season)

Doucet $3: Dropped TD pass last week. Just a random TD hopeful.

Chiefs $3: Glad points allowed don't give negative points. KC allowing 33 per game.

This week:

There are

2 Teams that will only be able to field 7 starters

7 Teams that will only be able to field 8 starters

220 teams that will only be able to field 9 starters

This includes bye week players and players listed as out or in the case of some QB's are backups and not expected to play. This doesn't include players like Spiller, R.Bush or Forte because their status is still up in the air.

Only 2 players over $5 have not contributed

Laurent Robinson $6

Kenny Britt $13

I'm confident they both will...

Entry 105790

Ryan...Flacco

McFadden, Peterson, McGehee, Scott, Dwyer, Benson, Ronnie Brown

Andre, Jordy, Wallace, Britt, L Robinson, Amendola, Ogletree

Graham, Heath Miller, Scheffler

Bironas, Gould, Prater

Jets, Bengals

$20 in dead money for me so far. David Wilson (9), Manningham (4), Prater (3), OAK D/ST (4). To be fair though, if I had any other kicker than Hanson, Prater would have started twice. Manningham has shown some spark of life as well.

I have $53 of "dead" money spread over 9 players on a 27 man roster, but I don't really consider anyone "dead" who isn't actually on IR or out indefinitely (maybe Vereen qualifies). They could contribute at some point.

The walking dead:

Shane Vereen - $6

Bilal Powell - $4

Evan Royster - $3

Kenny Britt - $13

Justin Blackmon - $7

Harry Douglas - $3

Dustin Keller - $10

Justin Medlock - $3

Kansas City Chiefs D - $3

The Chiefs should have an asterisk as they tied with the Bengals D for my scoring defense this week with $8. I'm not feeling great about Vereen at this point.

Outside of maybe Vereen, I think all of the above, provided I stick around in the contest long enough, will provide me with a scoring week.

As an aside, I'm fairly certain Harry Douglas has been on my team every year I've participated in this contest.

The one I wish I could have back is Dustin Keller. I think he got injured late in the preseason and, though I tweaked my team several times throughout August and early September, I totally spaced on doing one last review before the contest locked. Had I done that and if I'd done a bit more research on TEs, I might have tried to tweak the roster a bit to come up with $1 to drop Keller and Chandler for Tony Gonzalez and Martellus Bennett. Chandler's been very serviceable, though, scoring for me in two of the three weeks, so I guess I can't complain much.
