Got tickets to both nights in Boulder. Saw Bob and Wolf Brothers a few weeks back in Wichita and I thought they rocked out pretty well. Kind of a funky ensenble with steel guitar, fiddle, cello etc but made it jam. Bob forgot or stumbled on multiple lyrics but I'm willing to overlook that at his age.

Seeing the hardcore roadheads out vending in the parking lot in WICHITA was kind of a trip. Most cops around here would hassle those dudes on sight I think.

I'm heading to Boulder too. Then hitting the Wrigley shows.

Two weeks later the Rainbow Family gathering may occur in Grand County.  Should be some crossover.

We all know and love Cornell 77. My buddy (Big Wu dude) plays on 5/8 and they recreate that magical show, note for note. Oh that Morning Dew is so nice. They even do the whole "take a step back" schtick.

Grateful Dead came up in conversation, and my 24 year old coworker said they never heard of them.

Getting old sucks.

ps - they also said they have never heard of The Foo Fighters.  He is all country, all the time type guy.  Surprised, but not surprised.

Cornell is not even in my top five for that month fwiw. I don't love the set list either. We had a good tape of it, back in the day. But it's SO overrated imo. Fox Theater 5/19/77 is my favorite fwiw.

Fantastic show last night.  May be the best I have heard them sound...Up tempo/lots of energy!  Great open with Good Times as we got vocals and short instrumental solos from John, Bob and Jeff.  Seemed perfect as an introduction.  Lots of people tripping as the sun tried to emerge from the clouds during Here Comes Sunshine.  Maybe the best Deal I have ever heard.  St. Stephen was fire.  Drums and Space were intense.  Sugar Magnolia was a party!  I don't think I have ever heard Death Don't Have No Mercy before.  It sounded great but was a little heavy on the mood between the rollicking I Need a Miracle and Sugar Magnolia.

Missed Riverbend because we were out of town.  I have been streaming some.  That second Boulder show is some of the best I've heard them sound.  Morning Dew second set closer and Terrapin/Saturday Night encore was great.

Too bad Billy has had to sit the last few out.

Got Covid so had to miss Boulder, but was clear for Wrigley. Loved both nights @ Wrigley, but Friday night was my favorite. Really bluesy show. Next Time You See Me was great. First set Dark Star. I also don't think I've ever seen as Sing Me Back Home ever in my 32 years of shows, GD or otherwise. They also busted out a Miles Davis tune coming out of Space. On fire all weekend.

Love Billy K, but after seeing night 2 Red Rocks last year and these Wrigley shows with Jay Lane, I'm a fan. Jay makes a positive impact on this band. Keeps em moving.

Still happy to share the GD collection I put together for anyone that wants it. @Galileo got it. Maybe he can chime in about what's in it.
Absolutely fantastic collection of GD stuff. A massive collection with darn near every song they ever played and many improvisational jams. Anarchy has all neatly organized with information about when and where each track has been taken from. Excellent work, Anarchy99. Highly recommend for any GD fan.

Got tickets for Cincinnati. Also eyeing Indy and Wrigley, but going to hold out to see what else is going on next summer.

I hate buying into the hysteria of Ticketmaster presale bull####. After initially not seeing anything under $300 for pavs, I said forget it. Went back two hours later and got lawns. Will still look to upgrade later. Lawn at Riverbend is horrible.

Yeah, Presale is sh!tshow. I didn't end up getting anything through presale as nothing at Indy looked worth it the pavilion...just a few high priced options buried in the middle of rows. Had I seen some decent aisle seats, I would have grabbed them. I will figure it out later, and likely just buy lawn. I've been to the last 2 at Riverbend, but sat in pavilion each time. Not sure how bad the lawn can really be...at least you won't get muddy there, lol. Anyway was hoping to catch a different venue this time around. So, I'm still going to plan to go to Indy and then either Cincy or Wrigley. There are too many factors to be able to effectively plan this early, especially trying to coordinate with others. I'll let it all fall into place later.

We won a grammy!!!
Can't believe this is a thing

Figured I'd post this brief bit here. Yo La Tengo covers "Going Down The Road Feeling Bad" last night at the Fillmore in CA. It only lasts 1:15, but it's worth the click just for the vibe.

Thanks for sharing this. But did someone give everyone in that audience valium?

I'm guessing the crowd for Yo La Tengo doesn't overlap with the Dead or knowledge of the Dead. I wouldn't have really known what to do without some context either.

But I know exactly what you're saying. Like, why is nobody but one person dancing? Indie rock bands of the late nineties (after it was decided that slam dancing and moshing were incredibly uncool) had audiences that would just stand there because the music is normally not danceable.

I never understood that. I have to move when there's music on.

I didn't really like the vagueness of the band's announcement.

"This is the culmination of a shift in creative direction as we keep these songs alive and breathing in ways that we each feel is best to continue to honor the legacy of the Grateful Dead."

WTF does that mean? A shift in creative direction? Speculation is that Phil will be joining the tour and Billy didn't want anything to do with it. I personally just don't think he's up to it, based on the number of shows he had to miss last year.

Also really bummed because we are taking our kids to their first show this summer. They both play drums/percussion so we were excited to share it with them. Just won't be the same without Billy.

That's one of the main reasons I love Arcade Fire and LCD. Everyone is dancing their azzes off.

I heard rumors it was over Phil again. That makes me assume he will beat that anniversary show and Billy wasn't having it.

I get the nostalgia of seeing Billy K, but Jay Lane is a really good drummer. I actually preferred the Jay Lane shows I saw last year and at Red Rocks the year before. Maybe Billy and the Kids play some more gigs this year?

Lately I've been playing live shows from YouTube as background music while working. The stuff from the Spring '77 tour is outstanding.

Happened to get a show from '81 where it seemed like every song was faster and I thought "OK, here's where the band discovered cocaine"

Fox Theatre in May 77 is my favorite show. It's on DP29 along with Florida.

As noted, I've been playing a lot of live shows on YT lately. I was starting to have trouble keeping track of what I had listened to, and not 100% trusting of the little red bar on the YT page. So I had the idea of starting a Google spreadsheet of the ones I've already played, and then thought I could also use it to save links for shows I hadn't gotten to yet.

Long story short, I went down a bit of a dead.net rabbit hole and built THIS (which is a work in progress but should keep me busy listening for a while)

awesome stuff.

i listen to youtube past dead shows all the time while online, the music relaxes me and makes watching disc golf more enjoyable.

JGB band has gotten my most attention this year.

anything before jerry's coma in the mid 80's that is a decent recording is on my list. the dead were just different after his brush with death.

Set up us the listening parties.
