[SIZE=10pt]A friend needs help funding his short film of "The Terrible Old Man". As of this post, he is over $3200 away from his goal and has six days left. If you like Lovercraft or just feel like helping, please do so. I figured the masses here at Footballguys would be able to help out a friend in need to help pay for post-production and for the actors involved.[/SIZE]

When you give money to things on kickstarter, are you considered an investor and are entitled to equity and potential profits? Or is it pretty much just a donation that's not tax deductible?

It is not a donation - you receive the "awards" for whatever level you pledge (e.g. at $15 you get a digital copy of the film). The important thing with KickStarter is that the money only goes through if the project is fully funded.
