Kendall Wright... (3 Viewers)

I find Wright to be a singularly uninteresting fantasy option.  Six year vet who has seen production decline for four consecutive seasons (5.9, 4.1, 3.6, 2.6 receptions per game over the last four years).

You are all probably correct that he will be the recipient of a good number of targets as he is probably the WR safety valve in Chicago. But that guy? The safety valve guy? That guy doesn't win you fantasy championships, at best he helps you tread water when you are in a bind. But if you need him to help you finish out a Championship you may as well just start that garage cleaning project early because Wright isn't going get you there.

So while Wright will probably be a higher volume guy I think the only player in the Chicago WR corps who can truly kill it for fantasy owners is Kevin White. He has been a huge disappointment so far, no doubt, but he is the only WR in Chicago with the physical gifts to blow the doors off of defenses. In this offense I'll swing for the fences with their only potential game changer and leave the slow'n'steady guys for someone else.

Possible bye week filler. Not really rosterable ATM - see how healthy White & Wheaton are to open the season.

Anyone else still keeping him on the end of their bench after last week's stinker? I have him in a 16-team standard, start 3 WRs. What has me holding for now is a) the lack of depth on the WW; b) the need for startable backups on my roster in case of byes/injuries (potentially facing one this week if Crabtree misses time); c) the belief that last week's game plan was an anomaly where they depended on the two RBs for their entire offense; and d) the potential upside once Glennon is inevitably benched for Trubisky in a few weeks. Seems like the possession WR would benefit in that situation, though who knows?

Wright is on the end of my bench.  I think that he is a hold since he should be the most targeted WR in CHI.  CHI wants to run the ball but that may not be possible all season.  Howard was already dinged and Cohen is a little guy in a big man's game.  If CHI has to rely on the pass, Wright should get targets.

Yea, still has some value as a bye week/depth guy. At some point CHI is going to drop Glennon and Mitch can't possibly be worse. I think Glennon had like 35 passing yards at halftime last week. He's a nonentity. Wright is not a player that you want to be starting, but I think he has a chance to finish the season on 10+ ppg in ppr leagues.

Yeah in PPR I think he's worth hanging onto until we see Trubisky.  I wouldn't have him any anything other than full PPR though, and even then just barely.  Wouldn't fault anyone for taking a different flier either.

Redraft I need to drop him or kupp. I'm leaning to drop kupp because he's the rookie but I think it brings up an interesting comparison.

That is a tough one.

In a vacuum I like Kupp a bit more than Wright but I think Wrights situation is more favorable for volume.

From a dynasty perspective I would say Kupp no doubt, but for this year probably Wright.

Hard to say though as the Bears have a boatload of TE and seem intent on running the ball as much as they possibly can. Wright isn't a good blocker, so he doesn't fit their winning formula. Wright should be good when the Bears are in chase situations. Their defense has been a bit better than I expected, so maybe this won't be every game this year.

Considering Diggs seems to be made of glass and Cousins made Crowder a viable fantasy asset should mean Wright has some sneaky deep dynasty value heading into the season.

That's probably fair. Wright and Crowder are pretty similar level players in my opinion.

I'm still miffed the Bears let him walk so they could pay an inferior WR like Gabriel even more money.

Well in all fairness they are quite different WRs, Wright being a slot specialist and Gabriel being more of a deep shot threat to take a safety deep. I agree with the money part but talent wise it’s two different wr types. I still think treadwell, being so young entering the league, could still be something there.

The Bears have 31 mil free (including projecting the draft $ spent on rookies). It's almost never about the cap with lesser teams anymore.

He also only made 2mil with them. It was reported to be higher but few looked at Spotrac. I had my doubts because he made 7.5 mil with the Titans and said he was leaving for more $ and all these star-like things.

In Ten, with Loggains' absurd offense, they threw the ball to Wright on a zillion four yard crossing routes. He had 90 or 100 receptions. When they got a different coordinator and asked him to run normal routes, he struggled. He ad-libbed and got in trouble. He rounded everything off virtually ruining his speed advantage.

I never read of the Bears complaining of his ad-libbing so he must have stopped. His routes still stunk though.

Tre McBride is a good measuring stick. He's a classic depth player that tries to do everything right to get more time. He's got almost no big play ability to him but otherwise, I like the guy. I'd be fine with him being any team's fourth or fifth WR. I've seen more than my share of young talent that looks good dropping the ball. There's something to be said for a depth player like Tre.

I didn't like what the Bears did with their WRs last year. It was illogical to me that they cut starters and kept depth. I can only imagine what it was like for players. Tre had a good game or two and then was about benched. I loved that little guy from preseason that seems like nothing special and then is catching a 60 yard pass. They should have just been about production- any time a team strays from that it's usually an issue. IIRC Someone here said they should go two TE one week because the TEs were rockin'. That's fine. I'm not a Bears fan. I just watched "my" former Titans a few times and played FF like everyone else. The lottery shouldn't seem more predictable than which WR they will start.

I wonder about their young WRs now. A lot of them got some experience that they wouldn't normally receive.

Agreed 2 different types of players. I just think Wright is a decent WR, and Gabriel isn't. His only relevant season came when his QB was the NFL MVP, and even then he was arguably anywhere from 3rd to 6th in the passing game pecking order.

I haven't totally closed the book on Treadwell for the Vikings, but they are smart to not sink or swim with him as the #3.

Good fit, I agree
I thought Wrights comments about wanting to play with Cousins being a big part of his decision was interesting.

Moneywise the Vikings kind of break even by cutting Jarius Wright saving 2 million or so in cap space but eating another 2 million in dead cap for this year (which will clear their books next season) and then using that savings to sign Kendall Wright. So from that perspective it is kind of a push, but I assume they think this Wright is an upgrade over Jarius for what is otherwise paying a similar price for the depth at the position.

The main thing the move says to me is that the Vikings are not counting on Treadwell becoming more involved with the offense. After they cut Jarius Wright, that seemed to open things up for Treadwell to play more, this signing kind of squashes that possibility.

Diggs and Theilen have already spent time working with Cousins since he was signed, but Treadwell was not present for that.

Has Treadwell played in the slot? His path to playing time seems more tied to Diggs/Theilen then it does, not that I or anyone else, has high hopes for Treadwell at this point.

Quite frankly, it didn't seem like the Bears knew how to run an offense last year.  Their usage of Cohen was baffling.  They had games where they tried to lean on Kendall in the short passing game and it worked too, then they ignored him.  Just really bad at their job like the Schotty/Fisher Rams.

Treadwell has played the slot but he really hasn't played that much. They were using Jarius Wright on 3rd downs in 3 WR sets later on in the season when they were still trying to push for home field advantage. Wright converted a lot of 3rd downs even though he didn't have many catches.

Treadwell played on 500 offensive snaps last season, 44.8% of their offensive snaps. 35 targets 20 receptions 200 yards 10 ypr 5.7 yards per target 0 TD 57.1% catch rate, .4 yards per offensive snap.

Jarius Wright played on 254 snaps last season, 22.8% of their offensive snaps. 25 targets 18 receptions 198 yards 11 ypr 7.9 yards per target 2 TD 72% catch rate, .77 yards per offensive snap.

From what I have seen Treadwell can run routes ok and get open, but he is noticeably slower than the other WR the Vikings have and wasn't able to generate much YAC. I recall a couple of his catches being like this where I wondered what Diggs or Theilen might have been able to do with the same opportunity, likely more yards just because of that speed difference.

I could see the offensive snaps perhaps being flipped with Kendall Wright getting 500 and Treadwell 250 in 2018.

I think they still are, he was a big investment, and this sounds like an insurance policy to me.  It's not a ton of money to hedge with, and if Treadwell hits you're happy to eat it.

True.

My thoughts about Treadwell more based on Zimmers comments about him. Saying he may need a change of scenery is not something you want to hear about Treadwell from the head coach.

Then the signing of Wright following these comments tells me Zimmer isn't just saying that because he likes the sound of his own voice.

They no doubt will still try to get Treadwell involved, just not optimistic about him earning more playing time based on the coaches comments and the competition he is up against.

I'd love to be wrong here and I hope Treadwell plays well enough to shut ZImmer up this year.

Cardinals signed WR Kendall Wright, formerly of the Vikings.

As Wright is a career slot receiver, it's fair to wonder if this signing has anything to do with Larry Fitzgerald's lingering hamstring injury. Wright, 29, was the Bears' leading receiver last year, but then failed to make the Vikings out of 2018 training camp. He got beaten out by NFL dropped-passes leader Laquon Treadwell. Wright's odds of making fantasy noise in Arizona are slim
