January 6 Committee Pelosi's Mistakes (1 Viewer)

Seeing how she keeps making blunder after blunder in selecting members for the committee let's keep track of her many mistakes in this thread.  She clearly wants a partisan witch hunt and only wants those on "her side" involved.  What is the point?

If she only wanted a partisan witch hunt, it would seem her biggest mistake was voting for a bipartisan committee in which the GOP could appoint its own members and had veto power over subpoenas. Fortunately for her, the Senate GOP bailed her out by filibustering the commission, which allowed her to move forward with one that she controls.

McCarthy could have ensured a bipartisan committee, but he withdrew members where there was no objection.  That seems like a major mistake.

Stop right there.......and then didn't let them appoint their own members.   :lmao:

Democrats idea of bipartisan: 20 Democrats and one RINO.

So is Manchin a DINO?

Seriously though this whole RINO #### needs to die.  It’s super poisonous.  And honestly I’m surprised you’ve fallen into that Trump trap with this one as I know you’re not a fan of his.

Having a token person who will be completely ignored and have no power in order to perpetrate tbis lie that there will be any shred of bipartisanship in the committee report would have been a mistake.  There is zero chance that this report will be anything but a bunch of far-left nut jobs conclusions attacking and blaming everything right.

It's particularly ridiculous in the case of Cheney, whose one deviation from Republican orthodoxy was thinking that Trump lost the election and shouldn't have tried to overturn the result. Apparently that's all that matters these days.

For sure.  But IMO it’s ridiculous up and down the board.  We live in a world now that promotes, rewards and encourages not working together. It’s insane.

Same with Kinzinger. There was a time he was considered to be far-right as Tea Party conservative. He acknowledges Biden won and (rightly) criticized Trump's post-election rhetoric and now he's a RINO. Kiss Trump's....um, ring or you're out of the party.

bipartisan is impossible when one parties sole response is to shove their fingers in their ears and scream "L LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!"

Exactly.  Not sure why the Democrats keep doing it then.

What would you like to see Pelosi do with the 1/6 commission?
Disband it for the farce and donkey show that it is.  This is only being done to serve a political agenda - it's not about logic, facts, truth of "finding things out".  If they were so concerned about those things, they would have started a BLM/Antifa Commission.

Let McCarthy choose who he wants to be on the commission so it is bipartisan and not a circus.
That's exactly what she offered him

The commission proposed by Thompson and Katko would include a 10-member panel, with half appointed by Democratic congressional leaders, including the chair, and half by Republicans, including the vice chair. The panel will have the power to issue subpoenas if they are signed off by both the chair and vice chair, according to a summary released by the committee.
And he voted against it!

that is not what happened last week.
You're right, it's what happened in May. But the way negotiations work is that if you offer the other side a concession and they reject it, you're under no obligation to continue offering them that concession. And it also doesn't change the fact that Pelosi voted in favor of a commission where McCarthy would get to appoint his own members and McCarthy voted against it. So if you're blaming anyone for the lack of bipartisanship, you should blame him.

No, defending Pelosi is a bad look.  Even Democrats on this board have said as much with her actions last week.

How is blaming McCarthy for the lack of bipartisanship (due to passing on the first proposed commission) in any way defending Pelosi? Please explain.

Ah, nevermind. This is exactly how McCarthy wanted it to play out. Refuse the bipartisan committee knowing Pelosi will move forward anyway, then blame her for non-partisanship among the panel. Bunch of huey and the rubes fall for this crap.

If this commission isn't partisan it's all on McCarthy. Full stop right there.

I'm not interested in defending Pelosi. You started a thread that said Pelosi has made multiple mistakes. That would imply you think she should have done things differently. So I'm asking you, what should she had done differently?

This simply isn't true.Pelosi made a massive blunder which will cost her the SOTH.

So you said she committed "multiple mistakes", but the only one you can actually cite is that she opposed something she's on the record as voting in favor of?
No, that is just 1 mistake.  First mistake was even wanting a committee for an obvious waste of time.  Moving forward without Republicans is another mistake.  Publicly only trying to get Republicans like Cheaney on board was another mistake.

What unknowns are there about the riots from last summer?  What questions would such a commission seek to address?  What things should they be concerned about that need to be reviewed?

"What's the best way for us to 'both-sides' the fact that the leader of our party incited a mob to overturn a democratic election?"

When you're not consisten or honest or true in your positions then that's what happens.  You get called out with the truth. Hypocrites don't get the benefit of the doubt.

A lot of business owners lost money due to the summer riots.  A commission could hold those thugs accountable.

Do you ... understand what a commission is for? (Hint: It's not a replacement for the police.)

I'm going to bow out of this thread. This will no doubt come across as condescending, but that doesn't make it any less true: If you're going to start discussion threads, you should take some time to research the issue so you know what you're actually mad about. You know that you hate Pelosi but you don't actually know the history of the 1/6 commission; you wanted to start a list of her mistakes but it took you three tries before you could come up with any. I feel like I'm arguing with an AI bot programmed to spit out the conservative id.
