Grade your team's draft from 2011 (1 Viewer)

Here's a 10 year overview based on CareerAV . . .

1 (19) CB 1 (19) CB Prince Amukamara, Nebraska - Prince continues to improve on his game. He sat out all of 2011 due to injury. But started 11 of 16 games in 2012 and all of 2013. PFF ranks him at 18th among CBs with over 75% of snaps (aka starters). Not world breaking, but improvement. By comparison a lot of people consider Peterson and Verner 2 of the best young corners and they came in at 11 and 12th on PFF rankings. All in all, 16 game starter and consistently improving year to year. I'll give this pick a B+

2 (52) DT Marvin Austin, North Carolina - Awful pick, if I could give it less than an F I would but alas an F has to suffice.

3 (83) WR Jerrel Jernigan, Troy - Prior to ODB's drafting I probably would've given this pick a C- based on 2014 potential alone as the 3rd WR. But he'll be fairly irrelevant now. He had a decent little stretch last season and I'd say has a good shot at making it somewhere as a 'man'. But will never be a pro-bowl type guy. - D

4 (117) OL James Brewer, Indiana - This one is tough, he started a few games last season. Started out awful but started to put in some good efforts later on in the season. It's possible he beats out Schwarz this year but doubtful. I'd be willing to be he starts a few games at least though as I doubt Snee holds up a whole year. I'm going to give this one a D+ because there's some potential there and he finished out 2013 as a starter on the team. But it remains to be seen what his role will be this year.

6 (185) LB Greg Jones, Michigan State - 3 teams in 3 years. And some IR time. - F

6 (198) SS Tyler Sash, Iowa - Released before the 2013 season after a 4 game ban for PEDs. Never resigned with any team. And recently was arrested. - F

6 (202) LB Jacquian Williams, South Florida - He's far from a pro bowler, but the guy has started for us at every LBing position on the roster. He's started games at MLB and at SLB and WLB. And he's been pretty good while doing them. And he may still beat out Paysinger this season for the starting gig. That coupled with the fact that he was a late 6th round pick? I'm going to give this one a B.

7 (221) RB Da'Rel Scott, Maryland - Started 1 game was released a week later and nobody has signed him since. - F

Players still with team: 4

Starters: 2?

Potential future starters: 3

Pro-bowls: 0

So lets see we have... B, F, D, D, F, F, B, F I'm going to do this interestingly and average them where (A = 1, B = 2... F = 5) and come to an overall grade of D.

Main take-aways - The Good: Prince will likely be a long term starter at his position in this league. Has the potential to develop into a Pro Bowl caliber player, especially with the help of DRC this year to mentor him a little bit. Jacquian Williams was a great pick and has done a lot more than most 6th rounders do in their careers already. And he still has a fighting chance to win the starting gig this season.

The Bad - Tyler Sash and Marvin Austin were AWFUL picks... just straight awful. One was suspended and in prison who knows what happened to the other.

The Maybe? - James Brewer could still form into a good starter in this league. Never likely a probowl caliber player but a good one. He has a lot of guys on the team like Snee who he can learn from and hopefully take over at the position. But the jury is still out. I guess you could also toss Jernigan in this spot as well although I doubt much comes from him.
Good write-up.

PATRIOTS !!!!

1st - OT nate solder has taken over LT from matt light (oakland's pick from seymour trade) - A

1st - pats trade their own pick to saints for 56th pick (shane vereen) + 2012 1st, which pats later package with a 3rd to move up for DE chandler jones (2012) - A+

(saints take ingram)

2nd - CB ras ir dowling - this pick was actually gotten by trading a 2010 3rd to carolina, but didn't pan out -- dude had an injury history, and unfortunately couldn't get on the field - D

(carolina took armanti edwards with the 2010 pick)

2nd - RB shane vereen from the aforementioned trade - started slow with some injuries, but looks p good 3 yrs later - A

2nd - pats traded their own pick to houston for a 3rd (ridley) and a 5th (OG/OT marcus cannon) - A

(hou picked cb brandon harris who has not started a game)

3rd - RB stevan ridley - omgwtf another rb !! is what people said at the time, but he's such a stud today I wanted to change my name to kool-aid ridley - A

3rd - QB ryan mallet - this is the pick we got from minny for randy moss -- still unable to assign an accurate grade here, so I'll stay positive and give this one an A-

(I believe randy played 4 games for minny)

3rd - pats trade their own 3rd + a 4th to oakland for a 2012 2nd (DB tavon wilson) and a 2011 7th - C

(oakland selects OT barksdale and taiwan jones)

4th - pats traded laurence maroney to denver in 2010 for this pick, which they then trade to seattle for WR deion branch (2011 - 15 games played, 76% snaps, 700/5) - B

(maroney played 4 games for denver in 2010, seattle selects LB kj wright)

5th - OT/OG marcus cannon from aforementioned trade proved very valuable when pats sustained injuries at tackle in later years, and played half the season's snaps in 2013 - A

5th (28th pick) - TE lee smith promptly cut - D

6th - markell carter signed to ps but released in 2012 - C

7th - CB malcolm williams released 2 yrs later

7th - this pick was traded in 2010 to atlanta for OT quinn ojinnaka who didn't catch on with the team in 2011

pats didn't manage to net a brady in the late rounds this year, but did pretty well in the top of the draft, with the following players contributing

OT nate solder

RB stevan rifley

RB shane vereen

OG/OT marcus cannon

QB ryan mallet

WR deion branch (thru trade)

2012 (thru trade) - DE chandler jones and DB tavon wilson

I think that's a p good haul for one draft

FINAL GRADE - A+

Don't know what they concluded, but total Career AV from the drafts in 09-11 . . .
Interesting. Whey they add the 2012 year Seattle will be at or near the top. Well, at least for the years 2010 through 2012. Those are the three drafts that built their super bowl roster. John Schneider killed all three of those drafts.

Thanks again for sharing this. Its at least some degree of an objective measurement of team drafting over time.

2011 Bengals Draft.

1.04 A.J Green WR. A+. He's been pretty much everything we could have hoped for. Was gonna hold back the plus as sometimes it seems that he doesn't read the breaks right but it woulda been ludicrous to do.

2.03 Andy Dalton QB. A-. He's the first QB in Bengals history to lead us to the playoffs in 3 consecutive years and he's set passing records doing it. Yes the playoffs have been an issue, but heck it took Ken Anderson nearly a decade before he got a playoff win. For a 2nd round pick it's really hard to ask for more in the real world.

3.02 Dontay Moch LB. D-. He's still in the league which saves the F but we got nothing out of him the first time around. He went to the Cardinals. Now he's back with us and has moved to DE. D- might be generous.j

4.04 Clint Boling G. B-. We've gotten some good production out of him and he's likely the starting LG again. But he tailed off to the point that the Bengals moved Whitworth inside to LG and started Anthony Collins. Probably make or break year for him.

5.03 Robert Sands DB. F. Played one game. Injured, cut after being arrested. Didn't play in '13.

6.02 Ryan Whalen WR. C. He's mostly been a healthy scratch and put up minimal numbers. He's still on the roster as a WR6 basically. But really what is expected from a 6th round pick? Probably that. So I give him a C.

7.04 Korey Lindsey DB. F. Has never played an NFL Game. Didn't make team. Really no choice but to give an F here.

7.43 Jay Finley RB. F. See Korey Lindsey.

Overall draft grade B+. The first two picks make the draft. While Dalton's got his flaws he's realistically the best QB they could have gotten/had in the position in those 3 years - QBs do not grow on trees. A.J. is a stud. Boling is serviceable. The rest is pretty much trash. Could argue for A- based on the impact of those top two players alone but I'll stick with B+

Sorry I just saw that there were rules :bag:

If you wish to participate please include the following:

1. List of drafted players. LINK to DraftHistory.com done

2. Players still with team. 5* (4 the whole time, 1 left and came back)

3. Starters Probably 3 (debate is out on Boling)

4. Potential future starters 0 (if you include Boling in #3)

5. Pro-bowls 4 (1 of those was Dalton being a replacement)

6. Positives (see above)

7. Negatives (See above)

8. Grade B+ like I said above

He tore his ACL....

Not sure where you got the tailing off thing from. He was playing well until he tore his ACL in the San Diego game. They switched Whitworth into LG to replace him mid-game due to the injury.
Sorry man was glurging my way through that. I think the sentiment about some folks wanting Whit to stay at LG (i.e. us drafting a tackle) colored my thoughts more than it should have. Though a B- isn't overly harsh. Maybe a B or even a B+ if he can come back.

Lions

Rd. 1 Pot head/drunk... talented and specializes in penalties at the worst possible moments when not getting DUIs or into drug trouble.

Rd. 2 Psychopath/quitter... punched a teammate, lined up wrong, mugged a 7-11 clerk or something

Rd. 3 Chronically injured chronic addict.. looked like a decent plodder for a dozen games or so.

Overall grade = Migraine.
No need to hide the names. We're not protecting these non-innocents.2011 Draft class

Main article: 2011 NFL Draft

Round Selection Player Position College

1 13 Nick Fairley DT Auburn

2 44 Titus Young WR Boise State

2 57 Mikel Leshoure RB Illinois

5 157 Doug Hogue LB Syracuse

7 209 Johnny Culbreath OT South Carolina State

As is often the case with Mayhew (six years of evidence accumulated), he got a starter with his first round pick, a hit or miss contributor with the 2nds (one is now out of the league, the other barely rostered - another recurring theme), and absolutely zilch in the middle/late rounds.
Surely Detroit's goes down as the worst overall.... :X

St Louis Rams 2011.... the last year of Spags/Devaney. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

1 14 Robert Quinn DE North Carolina

2 47 Lance Kendricks TE Wisconsin

3 78 Austin Pettis WR Boise State

4 112 Greg Salas WR Hawaii

5 158 Jermale Hines DB Ohio State

7 216 Mikail Baker DB Baylor

7 228 Jabara Williams LB Stephen F. Austin St.

7 229 Jonathan Nelson DB Oklahoma

Robert Quinn - A+ Hey look, something went right for them! They'll apologize for it later.

Lance Kendricks - B- He's a solid possession receiver and a decent-but-not-outstanding blocker. Problem is, he was touted as the stretch-the-seam TE that everyone loves. And he just ain't that. A great player to have on your roster, but he doesn't do what it said on the tin. Worth a second rounder? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on whether you need him to be Eric Ebron.

Austin Pettis - C+ He's... a guy. He's stuck around because he can do a little of everything, but he never seems to want to do a lot of anything. Still, considering where the Rams were at WR and you can say this guy was the start of turning that unit around.... that upgrades it from a C-. He's been part of the rotation, been a solid-ish red zone presence but had his share of drops, and is the likely candidate to get cut if it comes down to it. That puts him ahead of Brian Quick on the who-gets-cut list. So...

Greg Salas - C- Rams kept investing in the receiving corps hoping to turn it around in one shot. And it kept getting worse. He didn't have any diversity to his game, a one-trick pony whose trick wasn't all that impressive. Bumped around from team to team, but only lasted one year and then was caught up in The Purge.

Jermale Hines - F Consider that this team was signing street free agents at cornerback by the end of September and didn't finish with a single corner that they started with coming out of camp. Hines couldn't find a spot, and he didn't get a call with the street free agents. Cup of coffee in Chicago and out of the league.

Mikhail Baker - F See Hines, minus the coffee

Jabara Williams - D Made the roster, got fitted for pads, that's about it.

Jonathan Nelson - F See Baker.

I am actually a bit surprised by this list. The top three picks are all contributors to varying extents, a stark deviation from Rams drafts of the post-Vermeil-but-pre-Fisher era. So maybe I am giving kinder grades to Kendricks and Pettis just by comparison to what they are being compared to. Overall, I would give the draft a B. I can't dip a draft into the C range when it has Robert Quinn. I could give rounds 2-7 flat-out Fs and still would rate the draft at a B-. Quinn is just that unholy.

So many picks, so little talent.

1. http://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/teams/eagles

1.23 Danny Watkins - G

2.22 Jaiquawn Jarrett - S

3.26 Curtis Marsh - CB

4.19 Casey Matthews - LB

4.23 Alex Henery - K

5.18 Dion Lewis - RB

5.30 Juliian Vandervelde - G

6.26 Jason Kelce - C

6.28 Brian Rolle - LB

7.34 Greg Lloyd - LB

7.37 Stanley Havili - FB

2. 3 players still with the team: Jason Kelce, Alex Henery and Casey Matthews. Matthews has been no factor at all and hanging on by a thread. Seems likely that he will not be back. (technically, I guess this is 5 now, as both Marsh and Vandervelde were brought back at the end of 2013 after being cut at the beginning of the season and going to other teams for a while.)

3. Starters - 2: Kelce and Henery

4. Future Starters - 0

5. Pro Bowls - 1*: Kelce has not actually made a pro bowl, but he is regarded as one of the top centers in the game and probably only missed last year due to lack of name value.

6: Positives - 1: Really just Kelce, who is great. Henery has been serviceable, but if you pick a kicker in the 4th round, he should be elite. Rolle was a decent effort guy for a while, but not big or talented enough.

7: Negatives: Infinity? Top 4 picks contributed next-to-nothing. 1st-round pick (Danny Watkins) cut after 2 years. 2nd-round pick (Jaiqwan Jarrett) cut after 1 year! 3rd-round pick (Curtis Marsh) cut after 2 years, then actually re-signed toward the end of the season. 4th-round pick (Matthews) has been nothing but a special-teamer.

8: Grade - D- : I guess a pro bowl center keeps them from getting an F, but they had 1 hit and 10 pretty big misses.
Even worse now that Henery flamed out immediately after this was posted.

With House gone now, its just Cobb from draft.

Home run on one pick...strikeouts with most others.

Positives: Brandon Fusco out of Slippery Rock became a starter at right guard and played well in his second season. He was injured early in 2014 but returns as the starter in 2015 after signing a long term contract the year before. Kyle Rudolph made the pro bowl in his second season. He has not been able to stay healthy missing 16 games the last two seasons. Signed a long term contract and expected to be the starting TE moving forward. He has improved as a blocker.

Negatives: The Vikings didn’t have a third round pick due to trading it away in the 2010 draft class to move up in the second round to draft Toby Gerhart. This draft followed the new CBA agreement and the lockout. The Vikings fired head coach Brad Childress the season before and had Leslie Frasier as their new head coach. Brett Farve played horribly the season before and then retired. So the Vikings were in desperate need of a QB. Christian Ponder is one of the worst starting QB I have ever seen play for the Vikings and this is a list that includes Spergon Wynn who thankfully only played two games.

Grade: C-. The Vikings reached to fill a need when they drafted Ponder. Rudolph was a solid pick but not a difference maker as yet. The main thing keeping this draft from being a D or an F is Brandon Fusco becoming a starter from the sixth round. The coaches and front office seemed unprepared for a transition from when Favre retired and squandered draft capital trading up for Toby Gerhart in 2010. Aside from Ponder, Rudolph and Fusco the other players were special teams contributors or poor starters when they did get playing time. Stephen Burton was an outstanding blocking WR during Peterson’s 2012 season.

What a brutal draft. This should be part of the core and we have nothing whatsoever to show for it.

Grade: Whatever is lower than F.
