When you come to Facebook to connect with the people, causes, and organizations you care about, we want you to feel comfortable being your true, authentic self. An important part of this is the expression of gender, especially when it extends beyond the definitions of just “male” or female.” So today, we’re proud to offer a new custom gender option to help you better express your own identity on Facebook.

We collaborated with our Network of Support, a group of leading LGBT advocacy organizations, to offer an extensive list of gender identities that many people use to describe themselves. Moreover, people who select a custom gender will now have the ability to choose the pronoun they’d like to be referred to publicly — male (he/his), female (she/her) or neutral (they/their).

We also have added the ability for people to control the audience with whom they want to share their custom gender. We recognize that some people face challenges sharing their true gender identity with others, and this setting gives people the ability to express themselves in an authentic way.

The new custom gender option is available to everyone who uses Facebook in U.S. English. To learn more, visit https://www.facebook.com/
The list:

My daughters 13 and 11 are into this gender-bender garbage online. I am about ready to knock that crap right out there!!

What would be the difference between things like this: Trans Male, Trans Man, Transexual Male, Transexual Man?

I've never heard of this before.

we should create and submit our top 50 new options for hetero's.

ie johhny cakes is an asians preferable heterobro, homer is gymnastophile ie preteen but legal hetero, christo is a gargantophile hetero, shuke an derriereaholic hetero with a penchant for buggery, peens is a mormon slurping hatero

etc

Dentist is definitely a chestdumpophile.

Well, Facebook better stay out of KooKansas because it is getting crazy out there in that anti-gay fatherland.
Any government employee is given explicit permission to discriminate against gay couples—not just county clerks and DMV employees, but literally anyone who works for the state of Kansas. If a gay couple calls the police, an officer may refuse to help them if interacting with a gay couple violates his religious principles. State hospitals can turn away gay couples at the door and deny them treatment with impunity. Gay couples can be banned from public parks, public pools, anything that operates under the aegis of the Kansas state government

Seems to be a lot of duplicates on there. Do we really need "Male to Female" and "MTF" which is an abbreviation for the same thing? Same with things like Trans Man, Trans Male, Transecusal Man, Transexual Male. It's the same freaking thing.

Just as Allah intended.

The new facebook options are for gender, not sexual preference.

agender: lacks gender

Androgyne: Androgynes may possess traits that are simultaneously feminine and masculine, or neither.

Androgynous: having both male and female characteristics or qualities

Bigender: Bigender or bi-gender describes a person who feels they exhibit two genders.

Cis (and apparently all variants): "individuals who have a match between the gender they were assigned at birth, their bodies, and their personal identity"

skipping to

Pangender: people are those who do not wish to be labeled as female or male in gender, as they feel that they do not fit into binary genders because they feel they are all genders.

Has the internet caused people to be aware of so many similarities in the human race that certain people simply have to seek out some sort of classification that gives them a feeling of being, if not unique, at least uncommon?

That's my gut reaction. It's tough to be different when there are so many other people being different in the exact same way.

Well I'm going to go change mine to Cisgender Man, since that seems to mean the same thing as Male.

Also, there is a comment section of people debating whether Pangender should be merged with Genderqueer. I'm sure you'll be shocked to find that people are up in arms about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Genderqueer#Merge_proposal

Genderqueer: a catch-all category for gender identities other than man and woman, thus outside of the gender binary and cisnormativity.[1] Genderqueer people may identify as one or more of the following:

  • having an overlap of, or blurred lines between, gender identity and sexual and romantic orientation.[2]
  • two or more genders (bigender, trigender, pangender);
  • without a gender (nongendered, genderless, agender; neutrois);
  • moving between genders or with a fluctuating gender identity (genderfluid);[3]
  • third gender or other-gendered; includes those who do not place a name to their gender;[4]
HFS :lmao:

This sort of thing is ripe to be trolled. I wouldn't be surprised if it is happening already.

Wouldn't it have been much easier to just put a text box in next to Gender, and actually let everyone write in what they want?

I thought the point of something being "custom" was to not be able to select off a list.

Yes, right now it's "off the rack" and some may want the rack put on.
