Bucs signed second-round QB Kyle Trask to a four-year contract.
The deal is worth $5.5 million over four years and includes a $1.4 million signing bonus. Trask is a prototypical pocket-passer with low mobility who still needs to work on his fundamentals to succeed as a pro. That makes sitting behind Tom Brady the perfect scenario for his rookie campaign. His time on the bench will probably last longer than that as Brady has shown no signs of slowing anytime soon. If Trask can develop while serving as a backup, he may get the chance to take over as the starter whenever Brady chooses to hang up the cleats.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said quarterback Kyle Trask has a "good chance of dressing" for Week 18 against the Falcons.
Bowels is already on record saying that the starters will play in Week 18, but left the door open for the possibility of some backups playing. It's probably a good idea for the team to get a look at Trask before the end of the season. Trask was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft but has yet to take a regular season snap in nearly two full seasons with the team. With the possibility of Tom Brady leaving via free agency, the Bucs could be in need of a quarterback upgrade in 2023. Although, Trask having a chance to earn the starting job next season is also a real possibility.

Bucs senior advisor Bruce Arians told the Rich Eisen Show he thinks Tampa Bay is "in good hands" with Kyle Trask.
"He's got all the size, he's got the arm, he's got the stature," Arians added. The former Bucs head coach stopped short of saying that Trask would be the starter, but a report out today from ESPN's Jeff Darlington noted that Trask was "likely to be that guy under center," and this seems to be more confirmation of that idea. The Bucs appear to be fighting so much dead cap space this year that they are preparing to go this route barring some sort of alternative they don't foresee the market handing out. Trask is 3-of-9 for 23 yards in his only NFL experience so far.

The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud reports Bucs offensive coordinator candidates were told QB Kyle Trask will compete for the team's Week 1 starting job.
Stroud added that the team will likely add a veteran quarterback or two in the coming months to join Trask in a training camp battle for the starting gig. Trask, the fifth quarterback off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft, has earned the praise of new offensive coordinator Dave Canales and Bucs senior advisor and former head coach Bruce Arians, who has said Tampa is "in good hands" with Trask under center following Tom Brady's retirement. It's somewhat concerning that Trask, considered Brady's heir apparent, couldn't win the No. 2 job over Blaine Gabbert in 2022. Trask has nine regular season attempt to his name.

"While Mayfield may have been the early favorite because of his experience in the NFL and his familiarity with Dave Canales’ style of offense, Trask has made strides & closed the gap in the last few days. What he lacks in experience, he’s made up for by being decisive and not turning the ball over."Mayfield has thrown 5 INTs, Trask has thrown only 1

QB Kyle Trask says he knows what situations in which to take more risks and that if the offense as a whole can play “clean.” Trask has largely avoided turnovers throughout training camp.
Bucs QB Kyle Trask completed 6-of-10 passes for 99 yards and an interception in his preseason debut vs the Steelers.
Trask’s starting chances took a hit with an interception on his first drive. It didn’t get much better from there, with Trask taking three sacks over his next three series before exiting. The third-year quarterback connected on a pair of deep shots, completing two 20-yard passes and averaging 9.9 YPA but this was a step back for Trask as he competes with Mayfield for the Bucs’ starting job. Trask is expected to get the start in Tampa’s second preseason game.
