Taysom Hill completed 11-of-15 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints' second preseason game.
It was the most consistent passing performance we've seen from the gadget quarterback, and he, of course, was a threat on the ground, too. Hill is expected to mix in with the first-team offense in 2019, especially in the red zone, even if it means taking Drew Brees out from under center.

Hype aside, right now in 2019 Bridgewater is firmly entrenched as the #2. The reason is that Payton doesn't want to readily give up the gadget plays with Taysom Hill.Who would be the starter in NO if Brees were to go down?
Drew Brees completed 32-of-43 passes for 370 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Saints' 30-28, Week 1 win over the Texans Monday night.
Brees attempted one pass more than 20 yards down the field and was his usual surgical self in the intermediate range, hitting Michael Thomas 10 times for 123 yards. However, Brees' two touchdown passes were 10- and 14-yard hookups with Taysom Hill and Tre'Quan Smith of all people. The Saints got this win without their heavyweight offensive stars finding the end zone. Brees had a horrendous red-zone pick in the first quarter but obviously overcame it to engineer a win. Brees will be a borderline QB1 next week on the road in a date with the Rams.

The only thing you didn’t predict correctly was Drew’s injury.I'm still going to start Brees for the majority of his home games. When he's on the road I'm going to try and avoid it. I don't have a good feeling about this match-up with Rams, I think it's going to be a surprisingly low scoring game and both teams are going to try to run as much as they can. Both teams got gashed pretty good on the ground last week.
Guessing thumb ligament. Since brees came out for 2nd half with helmet on it indicates sprain. Could be a several week injury. They didn't even seem to take him to the locker room for Xrays. He came out, the trainer checked his hand, and they handed him a baseball cap and took the helmet away. He's not getting warm or gripping a ball on the sidelines, just a spectator. Not good :(
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Drew Brees is believed to be dealing with a ligament issue in his throwing thumb.
Brees visited a hand specialist Sunday after exiting the Saints' Week 2 game in Los Angeles. The full extent of his injury won't be known until later today, though Brees fears the injury is "significant." Rapoport also noted that surgery is an "option" for the 19-year vet. With Brees' status in limbo, all signs point to Teddy Bridgewater getting the ball at Seattle in Week 3.

What about Lutz? He's been great the past 2 weeks, and the last few years.Wth man. Downgrade everybody. Except Teddy.
Eh, I think there's some dumpoff value there.Absolutely brutal.
Downgrade all Saints. Thomas was a target sponge but it looked nothing like Brees to Thomas. These were emergency throws to a safety blanket.
Kamara’s value take a big hit, and Latavius Murray too.
I’ll say this: if I were Payton, I’d lean on the run 2x as much with Brees out.
But I doubt he’ll do that.
Just a super sucky thing.
I would think Taysom Hill's play package will be significantly expanded this week.See THIS is when Payton should use Taysom Hill. Bridgewater doesn't seem to have that escapability anymore. At least Hill is more mobile. Can he not throw at all though?
There should be. There wasn’t though.Eh, I think there's some dumpoff value there.
Hill showed a nice arm during this past preseason. (EDIT: also nice decision-making, quick progressions, extending plays, etc.) He's not Olympic-archer accurate like Brees, but he looked (against 2s and 3s) like he could move an NFL offense.See THIS is when Payton should use Taysom Hill. Bridgewater doesn't seem to have that escapability anymore. At least Hill is more mobile. Can he not throw at all though?
There were flashes of potential in 2015. Not exactly fantasy gold, but he was a solid game manager who led the Vikings to an 11-5 record. They were a missed 27-yard FG away from winning a playoff game.Hot Sauce Guy said:Has Teddy Bridgewater ever been good? I recall watching him quite a bit and i’ve never been impressed.
I had him that year due to injuries. I was thoroughly unimpressed. There were flashes of potential in 2015. Not exactly fantasy gold, but he was a solid game manager who led the Vikings to an 11-5 record. They were a missed 27-yard FG away from winning a playoff game.
ESPN's Ed Werder reports Drew Brees will undergo thumb surgery on Wednesday.
Brees sought a second opinion, but it ended up the same as the first. He is expected to miss roughly six weeks, which would make Week 10 following the Saints' bye the obvious return target. Teddy Bridgewater, who is the league's highest-paid backup, will now step into the fire. Certainly a backup-level talent, Bridgewater will be a matchup-based QB2 during Brees' absence and is a downgrade for the entire Saints offense.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports that Drew Brees' thumb surgery was a success.
Brees' original time frame of six weeks reportedly remains within reach. The Saints aren't expected to place their longtime franchise QB on injured reserve. Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill are expected to split snaps to some extent during Brees' absence.

Iffy. Brees is expected back Week 10. However, that's far enough out that we really have no idea.grateful zed said:qbs on the waiver are thin in my league.
need a bye fill in for week 10,
will brees be back?
should i add teddy?
Gotta love that guy. There was no question he was going to work as hard as he could to get back. But it's great he's also reaching out to others that have had a similar injury to get their perspective. The Saints QB added that he spoke with players in other sports like Mike Trout and Chris Paul to try and figure out the best way to attack rehab.
"I guess nobody has ever had this type of repair on their throwing hand for an NFL quarterback. It's a common skiing injury when they put their hand down," Brees said. "So it's happened to various guys for various reasons -- and trust me, I've talked to every one of 'em to just get a feel for what the surgery is like, the rehab process and just getting back to what I need to do."
Drew Brees (thumb) posted a video on Instagram of him throwing passes.
Brees was even shown catching a football, so he's obviously moving along well in his rehab. At the time of surgery, Brees was looking at a six-week timetable, but it's certainly possible that he's moving along slightly ahead of schedule. Brees will likely need to get in a week of practices before returning to game action. In the meantime, Teddy Bridgewater will continue to dink and dunk his way down the field.

I am holding but given your QBs not sure I would pick him up as you don't really need him.Anyone holding onto this guy? He was dropped in my 12-man league and I'm considering picking him up. Problem is I have Josh Allen and Winston byes 6 and 7 respectively. Been building my depth at RB and WR and really don't want to drop anyone.
Not sure what to do here.
No one knows his return date. It's possible they keep him on the sideline even after the bye to keep that arm fresh for the postseason as long as they are winning with Bridgewater. He's sitting in waivers in my 12 team league. Thinking of putting in a claim tonight for him.
What's a realistic return date?
My starter is L. Jackson, but his bye week is week 8...when a D. Brees may be facing an AZ secondary at home.
Is a week 8 return a slam dunk?
Week 8 is definitely not a slam dunk. Week 10 is the closest thing to a slam dunk date — IMHO highly probable, but not quite 100%.What's a realistic return date?

IRd BreesI've been holding him and playing qb roulette after losing newton.
Drew Brees (thumb) "hopes" to be throwing a regular-sized football "sooner rather than later."
Brees said his rehab is going as planned, and they are still "fast-tracking this thing as fast as we can." The veteran is still likely a couple of weeks away since he's not throwing an NFL ball yet, but it sounds like progress is making made at a reasonable pace. Brees may be eyeing a return after the Saints' Week 9 bye.

Drew Brees clarified Wednesday that he's back to working with a regulation-sized football.
It's great news for Brees' chances of returning sooner rather than later. The future hall of fame QB himself stated, "I’ve graduated to the NFL ball ... I have a really kind of disciplined plan for what I need to do for strength and flexibility and then my throwing and all that stuff. So really starting to get back into it, doing football stuff, and just trying to get back as quick as I can." There appears to be a real chance that Brees returns in Week 8 against the Cardinals.
