Can anyone update me on online poker/sports wagering, I feel like Rip Van Winkle (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

Before kids, I was all over this board, and all the crazy stuff going on.  I was an original customer of both mrfootball.com and cheatsheets.net, so real OG stuff. I used to play online poker, and sweat the many excellent FBG players at their tournaments, heck I even bought a pair of sunglasses from Mad Cow, and used a Chili recipe from Joe Bryant at a neighborhood cookoff.

Ahh, the memories!  The kids are getting older, and I find myself with some available time....

My question is this, and please talk to me like I am third grader, or a box of hair.....  With the recent changes in law, what can a US based person expect to be able to do for fun once again, and when?

For example, online poker and sports wagering.  Loved it, used Neteller, and had three accounts through FBG guy referrals (PokerStars, PartyPoker, Pacific Poker).  Also had sports wagering accounts at Pinnacle, and Heritage.  The law changes that I think came in around 2006 killed it for me.

I don't like to push the envelope on what's legal, so I am looking for an update on whether someone like me can get back into online poker and/or sports wagering comfortably given the new changes in law.

Thanks in advance!

As of right now for sports wagering and online poker you can go to Vega$, Delaware and New Jersey.  It's geofenced and you have to physically be in one of those states to play.

WSOP has pooled their tournaments across all 3 states.

Pokerstars and others have sports betting on their apps (again - gotta be in one of those states).

It seems to depend on what how you are allowed to deposit, but pretty much do it with a bank account.

That's the quick version.

Sports gambling is only technically legal in one or two states, but there are plenty of reasonably reputable "internationally" based sites that make it pretty easy even in the US.

Unlike back in 2006 it is pretty easy to deposit now as most take credit cards for a small fee.  You lack any real consumer protection since they're not US based companies but if you stick to the big ones (betonline, bookmaker, heritage, etc) that's usually not an issue.

America's Cardroom offers 27% rakeback that can be claimed the next day, but it is by far the toughest room available in the US in my opinion.

Betonline offers VIP points that can be exchanged for entries into MTTs and they have a decent amount of promos and reload bonuses available every other month or so.

ETA - I like Betonline the best because not only are the games softer, but you can play through your browser and don't have to download their client. You will need to download it though if you want to use a HUD. The only HUD I have found that works there though is DriveHUD and it an inferior HUD compared to PT or HE Manager.

Bovada won't let me parlay or tease games.  For any dollar amount.  I didn't use them for 3-4 years, funded in August on a whim, lost it all, refunded, lost, refunded and have treaded water.  I won 1 - ONE - parlay and they cut me.

Fuc them.

My most fervent hope law wise has nothing to do with weed laws, people can still for the most part find a decent lead there. But this online bookvstupidity must stop. We all need the access that those in Nevada have. Stop the madness.

Seriously. I was unemployed for one summer in '04 or '05, and was making an easy $100/day rolling over bonuses from one site to another. Deposit $1k from neteller, play 10k hands in a few hours, withdraw $1100 plus any winnings, same thing next day. I had accounts on 30 different sites so I always had one bonus active every day of the month before the reset on the next first.

After 3 months I took out $9K, tax free, and went back to work. Lived off unemployment so all that cash was gravy.

If the golden goose ever comes back I'd have no problem doing it all over again. I'd love to come home from work and grind 1/2 limit for an extra $100/day and add $36k to my income. If it's ever legalized, and the fish come back, I'd be ready to jump back in.
The fish are still out there, but they have gotten a little smarter and there aren’t as many in the water. Those old school bonus deals are definitely long gone, but there is decent rakeback to be had at some places.

Absolutely, Party Poker, Multi Poker, Empire, PokerNow, UB, Absolute Poker, Good times.

I remember the Bonuses that they would drop $60 in your account and you could keep it if you played a certain number of raked hands.  It wasn't long til we figured out to play this type of bonus super aggressive and if you could get your balance up to $100 ($50 over) you could withdraw the $50 and keep playing.  One time I got it to $110 three time and withdrew $150 before busting.  So much fun.

The casino bonuses were even better, and the sports books were tons of fun.  SBRlines was so much fun trying to find games at different sites where the ML bets actually were even and sometimes you made a little either way.

Word is that there are more and more bots playing on-line now and overall, the game is much tougher than it was 10 years ago.
