Buying a Smart Car? (1 Viewer)

Anyone own one of these? Became interested after seeing the Car2Go smart cars all over the city. Literally, ALL OVER.

Looks to be the most compact of all of the cars in the class. Here are a few links:

I have actually never understood why anybody would ever buy one of these. They arent that cheap and the gas mileage isnt that great. You are basically getting a moped that can protect you from the rain.

They look like those clown cars in the circus, and if you hit anything bigger than your own car (which is pretty much everything on the road, including some unusually large bikers), the car is pretty much destroyed.

We had one for awhile. My wife drove it around town for errands and such. It was our third car and she wanted something "cute" to drive instead of the van. When my daughter started driving the van the smart car became my wife's primary car and it sucked. That lasted about a month before we traded it in.

It's really great for tooling around town, but driving on the freeway is pretty scary. Lots of headroom in that thing. I'm 6'1" and fit in it just fine. I would not recommend it for lots of driving, but just to scoot around, it's pretty cool.
