I watched such an auction years ago during the heyday of the 49ers but the money involved was well above my means. Basically, they had an uncapped auction where people could bid on and buy a play-off team. The heavily favored 49ers would go for thousands of dollars. As I recall, they also made a package of two wild card teams to make them more appealing. Such a package might go for only $200. I remember they called it the "Calcutta". I don't know if it was winner take all or not but they paid out whatever was raised at auction.
