MCL injuries are up as well as concussions

I'd say its more likely that concussions are just being diagnosed and tracked better, not that they're actually up. But I'm sure it fluctuates.

MCL's and most ligament tears are totally random freak occurrences so its not surprising that they would fluctuate.

Looking at that number of concussions diagnosed at practice for regular season vs preseason, it seems like teams are avoiding diagnosing concussions during the regular season.

there's only 12 or 13 full contact practices during the whole season

Due to negative publicity... I think the NFL is hypersensitive to the concussion issue ....and as a direct result, the increase in incidents.
