TE Zach Ertz, WAS (1 Viewer)

Zach Ertz caught 4-of-4 targets for 42 yards in the Cardinals' Week 8 loss to the Packers.

We noticed Ertz on the sideline a few times — this was his second Thursday Night Football game in three weeks — but Pro Football Focus charted him as playing 43-of-59 snaps. That is more than enough for Ertz to get home in fantasy. The problem is the deep, spread-out nature of the Cardinals' passing attack. Ertz now has seven grabs for 108 yards and a score through two games in the desert. Not bad, but the production has come on only eight total targets. It will be hard to remain in the TE1 mix if Ertz is seeing 4-5 weekly looks. San Francisco is the next team up for Week 9.

Zach Ertz caught 8-of-9 targets for 88 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinals' Week 11 win over the Seahawks.

It was easily Ertz's most productive game of the season, scoring his second and third touchdowns in a Cardinals uniform with one- and two-yard scores in the first half. His two-yarder came after James Conner was stuffed on a first-and-goal carry from the one-yard line on the previous play. Ertz has three touchdowns with Arizona and has settled in as a top-15 weekly streamer in an offense that will get Kyler Murray back after the Week 12 bye.

Zach Ertz was "limited" in Thursday's practice with a shoulder issue.

It's a new ailment for Ertz, but starting the Cardinals' practice week off with a limited session puts him on track to suit up against the Rams on Monday evening. Ertz's bigger concern remains the return of DeAndre Hopkins. Most of Ertz's low-end TE1 target totals came with Hopkins on the bench. Neither player saw gangbusters Week 13 usage with Kyler Murray attempting only 15 passes, but Ertz will probably be more of a TE2 than TE1 vs. Los Angeles.

Zach Ertz (shoulder) was limited in Friday's practice.

That's two straight limited practices for Ertz, who was a new addition to the injury report this week. Ertz should play through the shoulder issue, but with DeAndre Hopkins back to full health and Chase Edmonds potentially returning on Monday night, he's a mid-range TE2 for Week 14.

Zach Ertz (hamstring) is questionable for Week 15 against the Lions.

Ertz missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday and got in a limited practice Friday. He should be good to go against the Lions, but fantasy managers should have a backup option lined up just in case. The Cardinals must be aware of the fact that they can afford to give Ertz some additional rest while still rolling to victory against Detroit.

Zach Ertz (hamstring) was upgraded to a full practice on Thursday.

With Rondale Moore a game-time decision and DeAndre Hopkins out, Ertz figures to be a main Kyler Murray target against the Colts. He'll be in the TE1 discussion and the Colts allow the third-highest share of targets to tight ends in the NFL, so you can argue that it's a potentially explosive spot for Ertz.

Pro Football Network's Mike Kaye said Zach Ertz would be "a fit" for the Colts.

Ertz, 31, is a free agent after rejuvenating his career during the second half of 2021 with the Cardinals. Joining the Colts -- who expressed interest in acquiring Ertz from Philadelphia in 2021 -- would reunite Ertz with Frank Reich. The two worked together when Reich was the Eagles offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017. Kaye said the Colts are in the tight end market this offseason after losing Jack Doyle to retirement and "Indy’s offense clearly fits" Ertz's skill set -- namely, finding soft spots in the secondary and serving as a safety valve for quarterbacks. His fantasy prospects would hinge on who is under center for the Colts in 2022.

So let me get this straight. It cost ARZ a 5th rounder and a 6th rounder(and some guy that was the 223rd pick in the 2021 draft that doesn't appear on their roster anymore) to acquire Ertz last season.

Not sure if IND knows this but the guy that they had last season at QB could have used Ertz(and LIKES to throw to him... look it up) to help them make the playoffs last year.

WTF are the Colts even doing at this point? I still say the QB isn't the only problem in IND unless Wentz also was making roster decisions last year.

The fact that Philly took so little to get Ertz, shows how he was seen around the league.  Hindsight is easy, but there were dozens of other teams who didn't think Ertz was worth much.

Hindsight is easy.

If anyone in the NFL didn't know that Wentz likes throwing to Ertz they have a remarkable lack of sight, full stop.

If it was a shock to anyone in the NFL that PHI hadn't been shopping Ertz for a year and a half they also have a remarkable lack of sight, full stop.

Neither of these were some big secrets that required a ton of hindsight.

Oh I agree that everyone knew he was being shopped. I just think everyone thought the guy was cooked and done. The Eagles, Colts, and most other team gms.

Speaking Wednesday, coach Kliff Kingsbury said Zach Ertz (calf) "will be close" for Week 1.

Ertz has been battling the calf issue since August 4, and we didn't see him much at all during training camp while all the Arizona starters rested for the preseason. The Cardinals will have to release an official injury report next week at this time ahead of their September 11 opener against the Chiefs.

the more and more I research this guy.. he is like "Cooper Kupp" lite. 425 yards after the catch. The first half of the season the Lions weren't using him correctly. He was running a lot of deeper routes, which doesn't make any sense. Once they figured out the right way to use his skill set by the end of the season he exploded. They also started winning games and he was a big factor in this. Those 425 yards after the catch were 20th in the NFL among receivers. I would argue that based on his skill set that he could be top 5 in that category this year. This is a guy that can help win championships because he is being undervalued. Super pumped to watch him this year!
Wrong thread?

Zach Ertz (calf) is questionable for Week 1 against the Chiefs.

Ertz was DNP Wednesday and Thursday before making an appearance on the field at Friday's light practice. Coach Kliff Kingsbury "hopes" Ertz can play Sunday "in some manner" but noted the veteran could be on some sort of snap count if active. Maxx Williams, Stephen Anderson, and rookie Trey McBride are on the depth chart behind Ertz.

Zach Ertz caught 2-of-4 targets for 14 yards and a touchdown in the Cardinals' Week 1 loss to the Chiefs.

Ertz's Week 1 stat line doesn't look as hideous as it could have thanks to his touchdown and his two-point conversion reception. Ertz, dealing with a lingering calf issue headed into Week 1, ran a route on 64.3 percent of Kyler Murray's drop backs -- a bit of a concerning number considering his heavy usage in the second half of 2021. At full health, Ertz could be a PPR cheat code in an Arizona offense that's sure to chase points through much of the 2022 season.

Zach Ertz (calf) was upgraded to "full" for Thursday's practice.

The Cardinals are managing Ertz's practice reps this week, but he avoided setbacks playing through his calf issue in Week 1. With the Cardinals running low on healthy bodies at wideout, Ertz could easily double last week's four targets if his health and conditioning cooperate against the Raiders. He remains a back-end TE1.

Zach Ertz (calf) was not listed on Arizona's final Week 2 injury report.

After being limited to 39 snaps last week, Ertz seems ready to take on a full workload for Week 2 after getting in back-to-back full practices to end the week. The Raiders allowed a combined 78 yards and a touchdown to Tre McKitty and Gerald Everett in Week 1. Ertz could be in line for a TE1 day as Arizona tries to avoid 0-2.

Zach Ertz caught 8-of-11 targets for 75 yards in the Cardinals' Week 2 overtime win over the Raiders.

No longer snap-counted as he completed his comeback from a calf issue, Ertz led the team in catches and yards while tying Marquise Brown with 11 targets. It is the role fantasy managers envisioned for Ertz in an offense running low on reliable pass catchers. Ertz should slot into the TE8-12 range most weeks, including next Sunday against the Rams.

Knox 1/5
Rams knocked out Knox Week 1 on a horse collar tackle that buckled his knees
Kyle Pitts 2/19 vs the Rams

Rams up next for Ertz but he mostly is roaming the slot right now. 4 more weeks before Hopkins arrives.

Zach Ertz caught 7-of-10 targets for 70 yards in the Cardinals' Week 6 loss to the Seahawks.

Ertz has now seen at least 10 targets in four of his previous five games. He has at least 10 PPR points in every game this year. Ertz hasn't flashed a massive ceiling yet, but he is a reliable option in a passing attack that is designed to move the ball five yards at a time. That is a perfect match for Ertz's catch-and-fall style. He remains in the TE1 ranks for his Week 7 matchup with the Saints.

Cardinals TE Zach Ertz exited Week 10 against the Rams with a leg injury and was carted to the locker room.

Ertz walked off under his own power but was in visible pain as he made his way to the sideline before being carted off. Based on the replay, it would be surprising if Ertz returns in Week 10, although we'll be sure to update if he makes his way back. Rookie tight end Trey McBride is likely to see an increase in work if Ertz is to miss any time.

Looks like he's toast for the season
I hate Colt McCoy even if he has nothing to do with the injury, he was the QB and i can't stand they let him wear an NFL uniform.
All the way back to his parents running down and stopping things during the Title game to him posing as a legit NFL back up QB, he's not even that
He makes $1M a year and rides the bench as much as possible, prays he doesn't get his number called
Be gone Colt be gone

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters he "wasn't sure" of the extent of the injury Zach Ertz (knee) suffered in Week 10.

Ertz was spotted wearing a brace in the locker room after being carted off. This does have the look of an injury that could cost Ertz some time, but we probably won't have a more concrete idea of what that actually means until we get an update on Monday or Tuesday. Arizona's targets were heavily concentrated on DeAndre Hopkins and Rondale Moore in Ertz's absence -- backup tight end Trey McBride had just one target.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Zach Ertz (knee) is expected to miss multiple weeks.

Schefter also adds that the team 'suspects' that Ertz's ACL is intact. A full MRI is coming Monday. Arizona's targets were heavily concentrated on DeAndre Hopkins and Rondale Moore in Ertz's absence -- backup tight end Trey McBride had just one target. Stephen Anderson also had a target. It's hard to read into the situation too hard with Kyler Murray also missing the game, but Ertz's injury could keep Arizona focused on its main two targets in the short-term.

Still not on IR this is absurd for dynasty owners.
How much dynasty value does he have anyway? Not exactly a spring chicken, coming off a major injury, and the Cards will assuredly want to get McBride more and more involved.

He will likely be their starting TE next year and he is TE 6 in PPG this year so that is a lot of value to me. Not going to drop him for some smuck off waiver wire.

He was dropped in one of my leagues for Nick Folk.
I picked him off waivers for a kicker (Gould) I was carrying through Tuckers bye.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports Cardinals TE Zach Ertz “has been cleared for full football activity” and is on track to play in Week 1.
Ertz suffered a torn ACL and MCL in Week 10 last season and opened training camp on the PUP list. Now, the veteran tight end should have a chance to suit up for the final few weeks of training camp and could be on the field in Week 1 when the Cardinals take on the Commanders. Ertz caught 47 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games last season but could lose ground to second-year tight end Trey McBride this season. Those looking for a late-round TE to start every week could consider Ertz based on last year’s production, but the current state of the Cardinals’ offense and McBride waiting in the wings puts a hard cap on an already low ceiling.

Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz said it’s not for certain that he’ll play in Week 1 in Washington.

He said there’s still a bit to see - like recovery after multiple practices, for example - before he can come back.

Why would he be in a hurry to line up in this mess? (rhetorical)
He should try and land on the PUP and then either ask for a release or a possible trade for a late Day 3 pick, maybe someone would want him for his ability to catch passes.

He was doing very well in Arizona prior to the ACL tear

Zach Ertz caught 6-of-10 targets for 21 yards in the Cardinals’ Week 1 loss to the Commanders.

Deranged. Ertz’s 10 looks translated to a 33 percent target share. Of course, he turned that usage dominance into ... 21 yards. That is going to be life in a pop-gun offense led by Josh Dobbs. We also highly doubt this insane usage will repeat in Week 2 against the Giants, though Ertz could be forcing his way onto the targets-based TE2 streamer radar.

Cardinals placed Zach Ertz (quad) on injured reserve.
NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo said Ertz, who has 27 receptions in the season’s first half, should return later this season, though the team doesn’t appear to have a firm timeline. In the meantime, Trey McBride should see a bump in routes and targets in the Arizona offense. Ertz this season has run a route on 70 percent of the team’s drop backs while McBride has a 32 percent route rate. Many of Ertz’s targets — he had an 18.7 percent target share through Week 7 — should now belong to McBride, who makes for an interesting waiver wire addition this week.

Cardinals waived TE Zach Ertz.
Ertz was placed on injured reserve with a quad injury after the Cardinals’ Week 7 loss to the Seahawks. The veteran tight end was eligible to return after Week 11, but little on his status has been mentioned since he landed on IR. Ertz caught 27 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown this season, averaging a humble 6.9 yards per reception — nearly a two-yard drop-off from last year’s 8.6 YPR. If he clears waivers, Ertz will be free to sign with any team. He doesn’t offer much as an explosive pass-catcher at this stage in his career, but Ertz could serve as a veteran presence on a contender and help in short-yardage situations.

Back to Philly?
That makes a lot of sense, even with Goedert soon to return.

Before he got hurt I thought they'd try and trade him and the Bengals made a ton of sense but that changed. If he'd been healthy and released like a week or two ago I feel like Carolina would have tried to get him.

He has probably the most ties with the staff in Jacksonville. Would not rule them out even they got some depth.

Have heard 49'ers might have had some interest in him earlier this year, as a #2 to Kittle of course.

Guessing will be his choice and no one claims him and is on the hook for what I think is about $2.5M left for the year.

How the news broke:

JJ Watt
Trying new things in retirement, so let’s steal @AdamSchefter job for a day...

TE Zach Ertz has requested & been granted his release from the Arizona Cardinals.

The 3-Time Pro Bowler plans to sign with a contender and make a run at his 2nd Super Bowl ring.

(This is easy Adam)

Adam Schefter
Confirming @JJWatt: Cardinals and TE Zach Ertz are mutually parting ways, with Arizona deciding to move forward with its TE Trey McBride while giving Ertz the opportunity to finish out the season somewhere else, per sources. Ertz will go on waivers.
