Penn State senior WR Jahan Dotson caught 11 passes for 127 yards, and ran one time for two yards and a touchdown in Penn State's 33-24 loss to Ohio State.

Dotson (5'11"/184) can take some solace in the loss as he performed very well. He consistently sliced through the OSU zone for medium gains, and was versatile as ever. He can run any route and make all the catches, which is why he'll be a hot commodity in the upcoming NFL draft. He even lined up in the wildcat and showed good speed, excellent spatial awareness and ball skills to barely poke the ball over the pylon as he flew past it for his rushing score. Dotson has been limited in games by shaky QB play, but when Sean Clifford is on Dotson makes things happen. Penn State takes on Maryland next week, and the Clifford-Dotson connection will be needed again if they want to end their skid.

Penn State senior WR Jahan Dotson caught 11 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns in Penn State's 31-14 win over Maryland.

What a performance by arguably the best WR in the nation. Dotson (5'11"/184) put on a route running clinic, gliding all over the field, changing pace and direction with ease, and Maryland's defenders had no chance. All three of his touchdowns were gorgeous, smooth moves destroying his defenders and giving a struggling Sean Clifford the easiest touchdowns of his life. The double move was his preferred weapon of choice, weaving in and out of the defense who couldn't keep up on his 38, 21 AND 86-yard touchdowns. That's not all he had though. He showed off his speed on multiple occasions as well, especially on the 86-yarder, and he also showed his prodigious hands and lack of fear on more than a few catches over the middle, especially on a short reception in the first quarter that he snagged with his fingertips in the midst of three Terrapins. If he didn't catch it, it would have been an easy pick. It's not often a wide receiver single-handedly carries an offense, but you couldn't call Dotson's game anything but a massive carry job. Dotson has been unbelievable all year, and Penn State will need this Dotson again if they want to upset Michigan next week.

Penn State WR Jahan Dotson snared nine balls for 61 yards before leaving Saturday’s 21-17 loss to Michigan in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury.

Dotson was forced out of the game with a little less than three minutes remaining in regulation after taking a hit. He left the field and missed PSU's critical fourth-down conversion attempt the next play. Sean Clifford's pass to Cam Sullivan-Brown went incomplete, and Michigan killed the rest of the clock. PSU HC James Franklin has not yet updated Dotson's status. But in his postgame comments, Franklin painted Dotson's absence as devastating for the offense late: “You take Jahan Dotson out, [and] we’re not making enough big plays. … It’s something we’re going to have to look at." Now 6-4, Penn State should get back on track against Rutgers next weekend.

Penn State senior WR Jahan Dotson is one to be trusted when it comes to catching the deep ball.

Dotson (5'11/184) is one of the most highly touted wide receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft class, and that's not without reason. So far this season, Dotson has reeled in 80 passes for 993 yards with nine touchdowns. Over four seasons at Penn State, Dotson has caught every 20+ yard pass sent his way -- and there have been 54 of those. It's safe to say Dotson will be an asset to any team moving forward in the deep passing game.

Penn State senior WR Jahan Dotson caught three passes for 52 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 28-0 win over Rutgers.

Dotson (5'11/184) secured Penn State’s first score of the day on an eight-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Christian Veilleux to give the Lions a 7-0 lead heading into halftime. It was a largely quiet day for Dotson, who only caught two other passes on the afternoon, failing to go over 100-yards for the second-consecutive week. Dotson did surpass 1,000 receiving yards on the year, as he now has 83 receptions on the season for 1, 045 yards 10 touchdowns. He and the Lions travel to Michigan State next weekend to close out the regular season.

Penn State senior WR Jahan Dotson was named to the All-Big Ten first team on Wednesday. 

Dotson (5'11/184) had one of the best seasons not just in the Big Ten but also in the nation. His 1,182 receiving yards ranked 13th in the nation, while his 91 receptions ranked sixth and his 12 receiving touchdowns ranked fifth. Dotson is also a semifinalist for the Walter Camp player of the year award, after posted career-highs across the board this season. He should enter the 2022 NFL Draft with a high draft stock.

Penn State senior WR Jahan Dotson has opted out of the Outback Bowl, will enter the NFL Draft.

Dotson (5'11"/184) was one of the top receivers in the country this year, racking up 91 catches for 1182 yards and 12 touchdowns. He's a projected top pick in the upcoming draft, so this makes all too much sense. Penn State will be quite shorthanded for the Outback Bowl with Dotson and a number of other players all opting out.

Penn State senior WR Jahan Dotson was not on the latest Senior Bowl roster.

This came as a decent surprise seeing Dotson (5'11/184) not on the initial roster for the Senior Bowl. After having a fantastic senior year for the Nittany Lions, Dotson was set to be on the Jets roster, who have a huge need at receiver. The reason for his absence from the roster is currently unknown, but this is a loss for the Senior Bowl.

Whoa. Ray Garvin was talking today about how he was going to Mobile and would own the Senior Bowl practices. 

Maybe he stays under the radar then.

This is perplexing.  Players often skip the actual game, or even exit practices after making a positive mark (Kadarius Toney comes to mind).  This was such a grand opportunity for Dotson to showcase his speed and skills and really boost his draft stock.

i wonder if this is injury related.  His absence has to be seen as a small red flag.

 
Better than we thought. Half-inch shorter when people thought he might measure two inches shorter. I think he's only an inch shorter than Wilson. 

 
Penn State WR Jahan Dotson ran a 4.41 40-yard dash.

With Dotson (5'11/184) feeling farther and farther away from the group of receivers, he needed a good time in the 40 to pair with good jumps. It's so important for him because of his playstyle. Dotson thrives in open space with the ball in his hands. His time of 4.41 solidifies the speed that you see on tape and will keep him in the first-round conversation.

Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikkema has Penn State WR Jahan Dotson being drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 28th overall pick.

It's not commonplace to see Dotson (5'11/184) mocked in the first round, but Sikkema believes Green Bay's recent moves in free agency open the door for them to address the offensive side of the ball in the first round. Dotson posted a 4.43 40-time at the combine, and brings a productive college resume to the league. In four years at Penn State, he totaled 183 receptions for 2,757 yards and 25 touchdowns, while averaging 15.1 yards per reception.

Penn State WR Jahan Dotson reportedly looked smooth and comfortable at is Pro Day, and displayed good hands and excellent tracking ability. 

Dotson (5'11"/184) had a fantastic senior season with Penn State, catching 91 passes for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns, but he was threatening to be somewhat left behind in a stacked WR class. He isn't mentioned as a top pick very often, but he did well at his Pro Day work out. Of course, these things are scripted to make a prospect look good, and if they struggle that's more a red flag than anything, but Dotson particularly impressed on his go routes and deep ball tracking. He reportedly had a very lengthy meeting with the New England Patriots after his drills, who are very WR needy right now.

No other players at the position outdid Penn State WR Jahan Dotson in zone coverage in the end zone last season in-conference.

Putting Dotson (5'11/184) in the first round of mock drafts has become something of a trend lately, and that's not without reason. No other wide receiver in the Big Ten was able to match what Dotson did in the end zone against zone coverage last season, as Dotson recorded seven touchdowns in the category.

Dotson seems to a victim of size on first take. He's not close to 6 feet and so you have to assume he is built a little more for the slot in the NFL but these days that's a full time role and some WRs can roam a couple spots to create mismatches. 

Highlights and his first catch for a long TD vs Wisconsin in this highlight showcases his speed when he isn't bumped at the line and he just blows by the Safety, again seems to work very well in the slot. The 2nd catch for a 90-yd TD shows you exactly what happens when DBs lose track of this guy who seems able to create space. One other catch l liked due to the 10-10 score late vs Wisconsin, he's wide open, shoulda been a TD but under thrown so he makes the adjustment and just makes sure he collects the ball for a big gain, many WRs seem to lose focus on under throws that are sure TDs but can still be capitalized on for a big gain. 

Dotson does not look like he will come in and be the No 1 WR right away, he will be stronger when paired with a true No 1, however that doesn't always happen in the NFL as we see throughout the league. 

What he has going for him is an awful lot of game tape and 20 TDs over his last 2 seasons, lot of yds and catches, don't remember any 1st-2nd round Penn State Qbs being drafted into the NFL recently so he isn't exactly working with the absolute best delivering him the ball but he sure fills up a stat sheet and box score. 

Late 1st-Mid 2nd depending on team needs, some teams might prefer to draft a WR like him after the 1st. 

His hands and reliability seem to be a calling card many teams will be attracted to. Probably won't have his name called until 4-5-6 WRs are off the board but he makes a solid addition to a team that might already have an established or true No 1 which will make his transition easier. 

 
The MMQB's Albert Breer reported that Penn State WR Jahan Dotson could be the fifth WR off the board on Thursday.

After the same receivers being mocked as the top-five players selected at the position, Breer believes that things may happen a little differently on Thursday. According to one NFC GM, "The knock is that he's short. But with the speed, the route-running, I think he might have the best hands in the whole draft." Breer also noted that his 4.43 40-yard dash was eye-opening for personnel, as he was seen as physically ordinary.

He went before Claypool and Toney in a $250 SF startup this month. Before the Toney news. He has fans. Seen him go fairly early in BB drafts as well.

 
Commanders selected Penn State WR Jahan Dotson with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Dotson (5'11/178) finished his four-year Penn State career with two terrific seasons, producing a 38% yardage share and 47% TD share in 2020 and a 36% yardage share and 50% TD share in 2021. His senior campaign earned him a place on the first-team All-Big Ten Team. With 4.43 speed, he should be able to challenge defenses deep, but Dotson is not a pure deep threat. In his first season as a full-time player, Dotson was a field stretcher with a 14.9 average depth of target. He saw more intermediate work in his breakout 2020, posting a 12.7 aDOT. His target depth dropped again in 2021 to 11.3, and he played 23.7% of his snaps in the slot. Dotson may begin his NFL career as a deep threat but profiles more as an undersized traditional receiver. He is likely to eventually play a substantial portion of his snaps in the slot in addition to downfield duties, potentially following the early career path of Darnell Mooney.

The more I process the more I like this pick and trade back. And I’m willing to bet Dotson was a target for the Packers and Chiefs. And the more I read the more you don’t see any warts, just “penalized” for not being a big guy. But zero knocks on his hands, separation, route running, or contested catch ability. And he’s fast. There won’t be any excuses for Wentz if he can’t move this offense, especially if Samuels is healthy this year. 

 
And what is the deal with Penn State players I like going to the NFC East? Barkley to the Giants, Sanders to the Eagles, Parsons to the Cowboys and now Dotson to the (sigh) Commanders. I'm a Bills fan, I tend to root against the NFC East for some reason...

 
I think he's a fine player.  Don't feel super confident that the WFTCommanders and Wentz are going to support two good fantasy receivers.  Obviously the future at QB isn't decided and McLAurin is set to be an unrestricted free agent after this season.  Could be in an interesting position come year 2/3.
