QB Carson Strong (1 Viewer)

Nevada quarterback Carson Strong was 34-for-43 passing against Idaho State, throwing for 381 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-10 victory.

The Wolfpack entered the day as 35 point favorites, and covered the spread while thrashing the now 0-2 Idaho State Bengals. Carson Strong threw two touchdowns in the first quarter to Cole Turner and Elijah Cooks, and another score to Cooks late in the second quarter. Nevada travel to Kansas to face Kansas State (2-0) next Saturday.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong completed 22-of-39 passes for 312 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 22-17 road win at California.

Strong (6'4/215) was poised, even when the Wolf Pack slipped behind 14-0 after the first quarter. He has such a nice cadre of receivers, and he hit seven players for at least one catch, and five different players had at least two grabs. He connected with Romeo Doubs and Elijah Cooks for the touchdown strikes, and that's something you're likely going to hear quite a bit in 2021. Nevada opens its home schedule next Saturday against FCS Idaho State, so more impressive totals are sure to follow.

Nevada redshirt sophomore QB Carson Strong wants to set the NCAA completion percentage record in 2021.

Though Strong's (6'4"/215) stated goal of besting Mac Jones' all-time completion percentage of 77.4 percent set in 2020 seems out of reach at first, you must take into account that Strong completed 70.1 percent of his passes last season. When The Draft Network's Crissy Froyd asked Strong about what he wanted to accomplish this year, he said "It sounds crazy, but I want to be the first quarterback to reach an 85% completion percentage, Joe Burrow type of stuff. I really think that we could do that with the receivers that we’ve got here." Nevada returns 10 offensive starters, including the entire wide receiver corps with a returning from injury Elijah Cooks, from a team that threw for 319 yards last season in OC Matt Mumme's air-raid scheme that creates windows for seasoned quarterbacks to deliver well-timed, short-yardage strikes. While he might not break the all-time passing accuracy record, it's safe to say Strong is in line for a huge 2021 season at Nevada.

Rivals national columnist Mike Farrell named Nevada redshirt sophomore QB Carson Strong the best MWC prospect for the 2022 NFL Draft.

The MWC has a handful of other intriguing prospects, but it's hard not to name the best QB in the conference the best prospect. Farrell notes that Strong has a powerful arm with good size (6'4/215) and the upside to be this year's non-P5 quarterback prospect of choice, a la Zach Wilson or Trey Lance. Strong averaged over eight yards per attempt last season while scoring 27 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions. Strong is widely viewed as a top-10 QB prospect, if not higher, heading into the 2021 season.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong completed 25-of-38 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown in a 41-31 victory over Boise State.

While Strong (6'4/215) looked good and moved Nevada down the field succinctly, he was greatly aided by the three turnovers created by the defense that led to ten quick second half points. His 6.9 yards per attempt average was a middling number, Strong made the throws when it counted and kept the chains moving as the running backs room combined for three touchdowns. His lone touchdown pass came on a seven-yard gold zone strike to star tight end Cole Turner that opened the scoring bonanza for both teams. The win snaps a six game losing streak against Boise State dating back to 2010. Nevada welcomes New Mexico State to Reno next Saturday.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong completed 25-of-32 passes for 377 yards, a career-high six touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 55-28 win against New Mexico State.

Strong (6'4/215) hooked up with RB Toa Taua for a 16-yard touchdown early in the second quarter to help Nevada take a 10-7 lead. It was one of four scoring strikes in the second, as he also connected with WR Justin Lockhart, WR Melquan Stovall and TE Cole Turner. He hooked up with Turner again to start the scoring in the second half, and WR Harry Ballard III reeled in the sixth touchdown pass late in the third. He was just one TD pass short of the school record set by Chris Vargas in 1993, and Mike Maxwell twice in 1995. Strong and the Wolf Pack will look to add to their big totals next Saturday at Mackay Stadium in Reno against Hawaii.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong completed 49-of-61 passes for 476 yards and four touchdowns with one interception in a 34-32 loss to Fresno State on Saturday.

That's a lot of yards, and a lot of touchdowns. It did not lead to a victory, however, but that has more to do with the Nevada defense than Strong. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound signal-caller found star tight end Cole Turner for two scores, and Romeo Doubs along with Justin Lockhart hauled in the others. The four scores bring his total to 20 on the season, and the pick is just the fourth. Strong should get Nevada back on the winning side while putting up huge numbers against UNLV on Friday.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong completed 36-of-54 passes for 314 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday's 27-24 win over San Jose State.

Strong (6'4/215) had his issues with the two interceptions, but he helped Nevada hold off San Jose State and attain bowl eligibility. He has five consecutive 300-yard passing performances, but his four-game streak with at least two passing scores came to an end. The NFL prospect will look to limit the mistakes next Saturday in a road trip against the ranked San Diego State Aztecs at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong completed 34-of-48 passes for 350 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 23-21 loss at San Diego State.

Strong (6'4/215) and the Wolf Pack came up short against the No. 22 Aztecs at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., but it was an entertaining affair. Strong and his favorite target, senior WR Romeo Doubs, hooked up nine times for 127 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Wolf Pack were rather one-dimensional, rushing for just eight yards on 15 carries, or 0.5 yards per attempt. Strong and the Pack will look to rebound next Friday against visiting Air Force.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong completed 24-of-41 passes for 321 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in a 41-39 loss to Air Force on Friday night.

Early in the first quarter, Strong (6'4/215) was sacked hard, knocking him out of the game for a play. That set the tone for the rest of the game, as he was brutalized by a relentless Falcons pass rush. It affected Strong all game, but especially in the first half, as the Wolfpack were unable to get things going. They turned it on in the second half and it started with a beautiful pass, rolling out to his left throwing a beautiful deep ball to Melquan Stovall. They came back from two 14-point deficits to send the game to overtime, but the Falcons came out on top in the third overtime, where Strong failed to connect on a dig route to Romeo Doubs. Nevada takes on Colorado State next Saturday night.

Nevada redshirt junior QB Carson Strong was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Strong (6'4/215) followed up his breakout 2020 campaign with an even "stronger" 2021, as he was one of only five quarterbacks to throw for more than 4,000 yards in the regular season while leading the Wolfpack to a 8-4 record. Strong raised his NFL Draft profile by completing 367-of-527 passes for 4,192 yards, 8.0 yards per attempt and a 36-to-8 ratio while earning a superb 90.3 passing grade from PFF that ranks as the eighth best mark in the country. Though he has another year of eligibility remaining, it's entirely possible Strong declares for the NFL Draft in what is considered to be a rather uninspiring quarterback class.

Nevada QB Carson Strong entered the 2022 NFL Draft.

Strong (6'4/215) followed up his breakout 2020 campaign with an even better 2021, as he was one of only five quarterbacks to throw for more than 4,000 yards in the regular season while leading the Wolfpack to a 8-4 record. He raised his NFL Draft profile by completing 367-of-527 passes for 4,192 yards, 8.0 yards per attempt and a 36-to-8 ratio while earning a superb 90.3 passing grade from PFF that ranks as the eighth best mark in the country. Strong has displayed NFL level arm strength and accuracy while setting the Wolfpack's all time single-season passing touchdown record, but his mobility is in question and he has dealt with knee problems. He joins tight end Cole Turner as Nevada players who declared for the 2022 NFL Draft and will now focus on the upcoming Senior Bowl. Strong is trending around the fifth-to-ninth ranked QB in the 2022 class on recent industry big boards.

Nevada QB Carson Strong is headed to the Senior Bowl in the postseason.

Strong (6'4/215) will be taking part in this year's Reese's Senior Bowl after choosing to forgo the upcoming Nevada bowl game. With this, he becomes the third Wolf Pack player invited to the Senior Bowl along with TE Cole Turner and WR Romeo Doubs. Strong is a junior but did graduate in the winter, making him eligible.

Nevada QB Carson Strong has met with a host of NFL teams and highlighted a few.

Strong (6'4/225) is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and has garnered the attention of multiple NFL teams, still very much in the conversation to be the first quarterback taken off the board. Strong met with several NFL teams at the Senior Bowl, specifically noting meetings that had gone well with the Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saints, Washington Commanders, Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles, according to Crissy Froyd of The Draft Network. Strong has also said that he's met with the Minnesota Vikings recently.

Nevada QB Carson Strong received an invite to the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine this week.

Strong (6'4/225) has been invited to the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, which hardly comes as any surprise considering he's projected to be taken by a team in the first round, likely to be one of the first three quarterbacks off the board in April. Strong was the primary highlight of a largely successful Nevada offense in 2021, completing 70% of his passes for 4,186 yards with 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Not from the podcasts I've watched.  Reports are that he didn't look good at the Senior Bowl.  His stock is dropping faster than than those in 1929.

* ESPN's Todd McShay on Strong's three practices: "We outlined the top-four quarterbacks above, but what about the other two? Nevada's Carson Strong made a few nice deep-ball throws, but mobility is going to be a challenge for him (though he appeared more mobile this week than he had on tape), and his short-to-intermediate accuracy was all over the place. Of all the quarterbacks, his performance was the most up and down this week. The ability is there, but scouts will need to see more consistency."

Nevada QB Carson Strong has a solid case for the best overall passer in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Strong (6'4/225) is one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft after the immense amount of success he had at Nevada, his only offer out of Will C. Wood High School. Strong is the best deep passer in the class and is the most developed from a pure pocket passer perspective. That shows through in the film and the numbers -- including one of the latest ones from PFF. According to the network, Strong was the best passer into tight windows last season, finishing ahead of Caleb Williams with an overall grade of 79.2 in the area.

CBS writer Tom Fornelli has Nevada QB Carson Strong being taken in the first round.

Debating the 2022 quarterback draft class has not been an easy task. Most considerate it not too deep, but that hasn't stopped experts from predicting a few teams will grab one in the first round. Malik Willis, Kenny Pickett, Matt Corral, are predicted by the majority to be taken within the first 32 picks, with Sam Howell, and Desmond Ridder also in that mix, but the Carson Strong has been like that meme where Squidward is watching Spongebob and Patrick run outside. Going into the 2021 season some had Strong having a stronghold as the QB1, but that changed with some of the performances we saw from the others. CBS writer Tom Fornelli believes Strong will be invited to the first-round party as he has him as the last pick on Day 1. The Detroit Lions have that pick thanks to their trade with Rams last year that sent Matthew Stafford to LA and Jared Goff to the Motor City. Most do not believe Goff is a long-term plan for Detroit as they begin to rebuild and grabbing a QB might be that first step. Fornelli notes Strong's arm which is one of the best in this class, but also believes that even if this experiment goes wrong, they always try again next year where the class of QBs will be much stronger...no pun intended.

Several reports of players' plans for the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine have been released this week, and Nevada QB Carson Strong will participate.

On the same day it was announced some players wouldn't fully be taking part in the combine or wouldn't be throwing (like Ole Miss QB Matt Corral), others confirmed their plans. One of those was Strong (6'4/225), who will be throwing according to Ian Rapoport. Strong is largely projected to be a first or second-round pick at this point in the offseason.

Former Nevada QB Carson Strong is far and away the best passer in the Mountain West over recent history.

Strong (6'4/225) is the best pure dropback passer in the 2022 NFL Draft and has backed that up with the film and the numbers throughout his college career, currently projected to be a first or second-rounded. According to Pro Football Focus, Strong has the highest passing grade by a Mountain West quarterback since 2014. (89.3)

Nevada QB Carson Strong has met with almost every NFL team during the combine, says his knee is ready to go.

Strong (6'4"/225) was kind of a sleeper candidate to be the top QB taken in the draft preseason. Nevada didn't do quite as well as he probably hoped, but his personal season was still pretty great, throwing for over 4,000 yards on 70% completion, along with 36 touchdowns to just eight interceptions. That being said, Strong said he played injured for most of the season, with his preseason knee surgery needing the whole year to recover. He says it's fine now though, and NFL teams are doing their due diligence. The QB class is not amazing this year, so a great Combine could rocket Strong to the top, especially when combined with his natural gifts.

Nevada QB Carson Strong is finding untapped power in his throwing motion.

In this quarterback class, there is a flavor for everyone. For those who want a big-armed quarterback, Strong (6'4/225) is your guy and he sounds like he's getting better. Strong spoke at the combine about finding some more power now that he can drive the ball with his right leg. It's rather remarkable that Strong is finding more power, but more so that he was as impressive as he was in 2021 without a proper base underneath him. Thursday's workouts will be really interesting to watch for Strong, as showing off a healthy knee can only help his draft stock.

The Athletic's Bruce Feldman reported that Nevada QB Carson Strong did not help himself in meetings at the combine.

Coming out of the Senior Bowl, there were rumblings about Strong (6'4"/225) not interviewing well and more concerned about showing off how healthy his knee was than anything else. In Bruce Feldman's latest article recapping the combine, similar sentiments were shared. Feldman wrote that Strong "came across as immature" and he "didn't know his protections or his offense very well." This doesn't bode well for Strong's draft stock in a weak class.

Nevada QB Carson Strong doesn't want to be labeled a statue and shows off mobility and escapability whenever he can.

Strong (6'3"/226) has been a called immobile and labeled as just a pocket passer, especially when compared to other top QB prospects like Malik Willis and Sam Howell. Part of that stems from worry about his knee, and if it's a long-term injury as it did seem to affect him during the 2021 season. Because of that, Strong has been adamant about running mobility/escapability drills. NBC's Chrissy Froyd says just because Nevada's Air Raid didn't need Strong to move around a lot, doesn't mean he can't, comparing him to 2021 NFL breakout Davis Mills. He may not be Lamar Jackson, but don't call him a statue either.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr gave Nevada QB Carson Strong a fifth-round grade.

Strong (6'3/226) is a fascinating evaluation from the quarterback position. He has an incredibly strong arm but his medical reports are a big question mark. Kiper Jr noted that he has had two surgeries on his right knee and how teams view his medicals will ultimately impact his draft selection. Kiper Jr noted that he has a fifth-round grade but could end up going higher. He ultimately doesn't think highly of him, stating "If he's knee is OK, he could be a quality backup."

Eagles signed Nevada QB Carson Strong.

Strong (6’3/226), who had just one offer coming out of high school, brought the Nevada program to new heights during his time there. Strong was once projected as highly as No. 1 overall ahead of and during the 2021 season, but rumors surrounding the long-term health of his knee have made some wary despite the fact he’s been cleared by a Los Angeles Rams doctor and went through the latter part of the season and all offseason showcases without a knee brace. Though his mobility is limited, Strong may be the best pure passer in this class with a deep ball and overall level of accuracy that’s tough to match. That was reflected in his 2021 stat line as he completed 70% of his passes for 4,186 yards with 36 touchdowns and just eight interceptions on 524 attempts in Nevada’s high-flying Air Raid offense.

Apr 30, 2022, 7:35 PM ET

The immaturity thing posted above probably had as much if not more to do with it than his knee. The combination tanked his draft stock

I also can't believe he didn't get drafted. In this weak QB class, he might be the best drop back passer.
Yeah - from what I’ve seen, he’s better than Pickett. There has to be something with how he interviewed, or a dead hooker & blow story or something.
