When the police say this, you know the situation is still fluid.

@JSOPIO: Mass shooting at the Jacksonville Landing.  Stay far away from the area.  The area is not safe at this time.  STAY AWAY #TheLandingMassShooting

Personally I'm wondering if this is gang related. The twitch video looked like one player was intentionally targeted. Locally we had a shooting Friday after a HS football game that was gang related.

Early report is he lost in the tourney and then decided to open fire.

One good thing was the the fire dept was doing training nearby. First responders were there almost immediately.

@rwyse: Station 1 were treating victims before call went out. Victims ran to them as they were doing training right next to Landing.

Sadly, I feel like I am becoming way too desensitized.  I watched that twitch video and felt like I was in some sort of game myself.  My mind registered those gunfire shots as if it was a cap gun from my youth.   :(

Just rumors at this point, but apparently the gunman killed himself and he was an eliminated player who came back seeking revenge

Yeah that's what I'm seeing. Funny thing is local media isn't reporting that.  Don't know if they're waiting to hear from local cops.

JSO just had update. No additional suspects. They refused to identify shooter or motive.  Also refused to give fatality/injury totals. Shooter identified solely as white male.

Local news just had phone interview with one of the gamers who was there. According to him, the kid in the right who was lit up by the red laser light is among the deceased.  The kid next to him supposedly had minor wounds from shrapnel.

I played the hell out of the very first version of Madden with an old friend of mine. No way I would ever think video games would get this type of news.

Latest press conference says 3 fatalities - shooter plus 2 others.

Shooter is from Baltimore and FBI raiding his home there.

Video games feed an unhealthy addiction.  They don't need to be violent to be mentally destructive.
This is just plain stupid.  Anyone who believes this should really check their pretend ambitions at intelligence at the door.

TVs, video games, and social media exist in most other countries too, but their rate of gun violence is a fraction of ours. Whatever is wrong with us is unique to our country.
And arguably more prevalent and the games are more violent in places like Japan, yet like you say - tiny % of these incidents in those places.  If only we could figure out what makes us so different.

:sarcasm:

Stop while you are behind.  Pick up a book and learn something about how the world works.  You sound like one of the intellectually deficient parents who blamed role playing games on kids turning to satanism.
so angry.  I hope your parents don't take away your Call of Duty

Oof. Apparently the murderer won a recent Madden tournament in Buffalo somehow sponsored by/attached to the Bills. They literally tweeted out congrats to him today for winning the tournament.

That is unfortunate.  Seems like eSports need to have the same security that stadiums/casinos do...
