This poll is to find out where rookie players stack up after the combine.

My goal is to run these polls up until the NFL and see how far we can get. Hopefully a top 25 at least, but if polls go fast maybe we can get deeper than that. Will have to see how this goes.

There are two polls, one for typical 12 team leagues 20 roster spots, PPR or standard scoring. Although there are some differences between these two scoring formats, I don't think the information gained by that difference is much, the order should be about the same except that WR should be valued more in PPR leagues.

The second poll is for 2 QB leagues as I want to see where the QBs are valued compared to other players in this format.

Please suggest players you think should be on the next set of polls or changes you might make to the players currently available in the poll.

I am pulling names from Mike Clays nice top 100 list here. But I will add new players based on the communities recommendations before just adding the next player from Mikes list.

Discussion very welcome.

I added Marlon Mack to the poll as jdt13 voted other for him in the previous one.

Thanks everyone for voting and the discussion.

You got it. I was considering adding Samuel before I saw the suggestion of Mack.

Mike Clays next guy after Kupp is Josh Reynolds, then Godwin and Samuel.

There are some interesting WR from this draft class.

If Stewart does not get any votes in this poll I will add Samuel and Godwin to the next poll. I don't see him getting any votes yet in previous polls, he was just higher on Clays list.

I did have a recommendation for Kupp in previous poll so he stays. Everyone else on the list has gotten at least one vote, so they stay also.

One vote for Samuel in this poll noted.

Henderson & Mahomes. Mahomes over Trubisky/Kizer because I think he offers by far the most upside. Average/good QB's are very valuable in 2 QB formats,  but great QB's are gold. I'll gamble on the higher upside when it comes to QB, even of it comes with a higher risk.

Not to derail the thread entirely, but if in an IDP (standard IDP) league is this around where some defensive players should be looked at?

Wow, that early?  I'm in a 10 teamer, and I think the only rookie defender ever selected with a first round pick was Luke K. back in the day, and people laughed when it happened
Are they laughing now?

I suppose it depends on league particulars, but in our format LB are stud players - they score along with RB/WR and their replacement value is the equivalent based on our starter positions.  It's common in these leagues that the first LB goes right around 10.

And the top defensive guy is Foster this year (or looking to be the top defensive guy)?

Just checked my league, LB went as follows last year (12 man, 16 man, 16 man):

7,13,19,21,23,24
11,13,15,18,20
7,13,14,22,24

I'm fairly out of the loop this year* on IDP but IDP is very league and scoring dependent. Foster (and usually LBs) is the safest pick because he should be a tackle machine. Myles Garrett is pretty much the unanimous #1 overall pick in real NFL mock drafts. So depending on your league structure he might go pretty high.

When it comes to your rookie draft, if Luke was the only IDP ever taken in the first round (and by you) then A) you might have lower IDP scoring B) don't need to take them that high.

Maybe do a thread in the Assist Coach. Put a spoiler in with your starting position requirements and your scoring.

*I had to prune out a bunch of leagues which included all my IDP leagues. One league has 2 IDP spots so I don't really count that. It's stupid but the guys are great.

Situation will help a number of others but Foster has drawn multiple Kuechley comps by guys like Mayock and that analytics specialist on NFLN - all of which I totally buy into.  I have Foster as pretty situation proof, but I could put a couple of guys like Cunningham or Jarrad Davis in that draft range if they go to the right place.

I'm in a 10 team league, start 2 LBs (and two DLs and two DBs).  1 pp tackle.  .5 per assisted tackle.  2 or 3 points per forced fumble, recovery, INTs, and sacks.  But with only 10 teams and most teams only rostering 3-4 LBs, you can typically find a decent enough one if you needed one.  The #3 LB from last year (Zach Brown) was a free agent early in the year, as was the season ends #5, #6, #7, #11 and #15 LBs.  You never see that from the QBs, RBs, or WRs.  That's generally why defensive players tend to slide a bit more than in deeper leagues.

I voted Other for Corey Clement. He wasn't added after the last vote. Mack was added after an other vote...

A lot of this depends on your scoring system. For example in a tackle heavy scoring system (2pts/tackle) then yes possibly. I think it also depends on the draft. You generally are looking for a off ball LB who can make a lot of tackles, unless your scoring system gives 6pts for sacks (some do) then perhaps you would also be looking at top quality pass rushers.

In a more typical scoring system of 1pt/tackle the best IDP players score similar to a WR 2. So yes this is where you might start considering a top guy. I do not see a Pat Willis or other elite LB prospect to take this early in this scoring system.

If you do land an IDP stud such as Willis I think those players are worth more than a 1st round pick when they are in their prime. I usually won't trade these guys.

I am talking about older players because I haven't played IDP format for over 5 years now. I used to play this format for a decade or so though. I never did high scoring IDP leagues, but I have looked at how such scoring systems cause IDP to stack up against other positions. Personally I think 6pts for a sack is too much when it is equal to a TD. So I never played in that type of league before.

The 2 QB poll is showing me some interesting things compared to the regular poll.

First Alvin Kamara was passed up for John Ross in the 2 QB poll at 1.09 and I had to break a tie between Ross and Trubisky. Then after Ross won, Alvin Kamara wins poll 1.10 skipping Trubisky who had tied Ross in the previous poll.

Currently JuJU is ahead of Trubisky in votes as well. Either different people are voting, or voters have changed their mind.

The other option is that 10 people like Trubisky now and 30 don't, so it went from 10-10-8-7-7 to 10-15-10-7 to 10-20-12 to 10-32, where the same 42 people are voting and the same 10 like Trubisky but he did a lot better when it was 5 way than 2 way.
