Dynasty: QB Brad Kaaya, Panthers (1 Viewer)

ESPN's Todd McShay noted that Miami junior QB Brad Kaaya "can really excel in a precision/timing-based offense."

McShay ranks Kaaya as his No. 2 draft-eligible quarterback, just behind Clemson's Deshaun Watson. "Decisive with his full-field reads," the analyst writes, "Kaaya showed very good accuracy on short-to-intermediate throws and consistently made good pre-snap decisions [last season]." A year ago, the 6-foot-4, 209-pounder threw for 3,238 yards (61.2% completions) with a 16/5 TD/INT ratio. His yardage total and completion-percentage both showed slight bumps from his 2014 freshman campaign, but his TD/INT ratio took a noticeable step back from the 26/12 mark he posted two years ago. With more stability on the coaching front this season (sorry, Al Golden), 2016 should serve as a key developmental year for the gunslinger's NFL prospects.

Miami junior QB Brad Kaaya will be held out of early week practices to give his shoulder injury a rest.
"He got his shoulder banged up," head coach Mark Richt told reporters. "He probably won't throw for a couple days. We'll see how that goes." Kaaya took a number of hits in Saturday's loss to Florida State, including a targeting call and a hit that caused Kaaya to lose a tooth. In that game Kaaya completed 19 of 32 attempts for 214 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Miami faces UNC next.

The Bears, Cardinals, Saints, Texans, Chargers and Dolphins are showing more interest in Miami junior QB Brad Kaaya compared to the other 26 NFL teams, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Those six teams "ask the most" about Kaaya. At this point in the process we would not read into which teams visit schools or attend games, as teams will visit every program and attending games is many times about convenience and entertainment than focusing on a specific prospect. Kaaya has thrown for 17 touchdowns and six interceptions this season.

Miami junior QB Brad Kaaya completed 24-of-34 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns in Wednesday's 31-14 win over West Virginia in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Kaaya started slowly as Miami fell behind 7-0 after one quarter. The switch would flip in the second quarter, when the NFLer-to-be hit freshman WR Ahmon Richards on a short pass. Richards would do the rest of the work, running it in for the score from 51 yards out. That came with 6:30 remaining in the first half, but the Hurricanes were far from done. Kaaya went on to toss two more touchdown passes to boost his squad to a 21-7 advantage. The teams would trade touchdowns in the third quarter before Miami polished off the contest's scoring with a 30-yard field goal. Kaaya said after the game that he will make his draft decision in the coming days, with a decision probable after New Year's. He is widely expected to declare. In a thin quarterback class, the 6-foot-4, 209-pounder has first or early-second round potential. Wednesday's bowl win showed Kaaya at his best.

One NFC personnel director told NFL.com's Lance Zierlein that Miami QB Brad Kaaya could end up being "just another guy."
How could Kaaya avoid doing that? "He has to throw with better accuracy and velocity" the personnel director said. Kaaya's intangibles are already being discussed, but it is unlikely Kaaya ends up as a first round selection.

ESPN's Mel Kiper says Miami QB Brad Kaaya is a Rds. 3-4 prospect.
We think Kaaya made a big unforced error by opting into the NFL as a true junior. Instead of entering his senior campaign as a first-round possibility and one of the nation's best quarterbacks, he's settled for a mid-round slot, the land where teams take developmental prospects to bury behind established starters. An NFC personnel director told NFL.com's Lance Zierlein earlier this month that Kaaya could end up being "just another guy."

ESPN's Kevin Weidl believes Miami QB Brad Kaaya "throws a great ball" despite possessing other flaws in his game.
"Clean coming off his hand with a lot of RPMs," Weidl tweeted. We think this is well down the list of desirable quarterback traits and place "working in a closing pocket" as No. 1. Many believe that is where Kaaya struggles most.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah believes Miami QB Brad Kaaya "really struggles when forced off his spot."
That is not a good trait. Jeremiah notes when everything works, Kaaya looks good with a "firm base" and is accurate. As you all know, we care most about quarterbacks when they are pressured. This is not a good sign for the Miami Hurricane.

The MMQB's Emily Kaplan believes Miami's Brad Kaaya is now viewed as a developmental QB.
One NFL scout believes the expectations were too high for Kaaya entering the season, but he "still has a chance to be very good." Numerous evaluators have discussed Kaaya's tendency to be frenetic and crumble when facing pressure, a situation where successful passers stay composed. Kaaya could be a second to a fourth round pick.

Miami QB Brad Kaaya had "one of the strongest throwing performances" at the NFL Combine, according to Scouts Inc., and his "smooth and crisp footwork stood out."
Kaaya drew raves around the industry for his Saturday workout, but, as the Scouts Inc. crew notes, the performance must be kept in perspective. "Kaaya's performance in this type of venue isn't surprising as he is one of the most naturally accurate throwers in the class when can set up and deliver from a clean pocket," wrote Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl. "Questions still remain about Kaaya's ability to handle pressure and function from a muddied pocket, but coming from a pro-style system and showcasing the touch and accuracy should help him build some momentum coming out of Indianapolis." Kaaya's ceiling is Rd. 2. His floor is early on Day 3.

A director of pro personnel for an NFC team believes Miami QB Brad Kaaya will be overdrafted.

"I really love his mental makeup and I want to like him more as a prospect," he said. "I just think someone is going to overdraft the person or the intangibles. At the end of the day, he has to throw with better accuracy and velocity or he’ll be just another guy." NFL Media's Lance Zierlein likens Kaaya to Browns second-year QB Cody Kessler. "Kaaya flashes the mechanics and intelligence of a player who has spent hours in quarterback camps," Zierlein wrote. "However, he can be too mechanical and thinks too much rather than just flowing and responding to what the field offers him. Kaaya ... has the tools and intangibles to become an NFL starter. While he can work around his average arm strength, he must improve his accuracy and anticipation if he is to make a mark in the NFL." Kaaya has fallen behind Davis Webb in the quarterback hierarchy and may be headed for a tumble into Day 3.

Speaking about Miami QB Brad Kaaya, an anonymous NFL scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: "It sets me back when the coaches are excited he’s leavin’."

It's a surprising sentiment considering that Kaaya started every game he was on campus and left as the Hurricanes’ all-time leading passer. "He’s a mystery guy," another scout said. "Extremely talented but it looks like he’s got dead eyes. He’s like Carson Palmer. I see a guy who holds the ball. Against Virginia Tech he got sacked eight times. Their offensive line wasn’t that bad." Kaaya led this year's QB class in the Wonderlic with a 34. "Hasn’t run the 40," said a third scout. "Said he had a turf toe at pro day. I get the creeps about that kid. He doesn’t extend a lot of plays and he’s not going to hurt you with creativity." NFL Media's Lance Zierlein compares Kaaya to Browns second-year QB Cody Kessler.

Lions waived QB Brad Kaaya.

A sixth-round rookie out of Miami, Kaaya completed 24-of-40 passes for 293 yards with three touchdowns and one interception during the preseason. He should catch on elsewhere, at least as a practice-squadder. Jake Rudock will open as Detroit's No. 2 behind starter Matthew Stafford.

Panthers claimed QB Brad Kaaya, formerly of the Lions, off waivers.

A sixth-round pick out of Miami, the Lions almost certainly were hoping to stash Kaaya on the practice squad. Instead, he will spend the season behind Cam Newton and Derek Anderson in Carolina. The Panthers cut former No. 3 QB Joe Webb on Saturday.
