Big fan of this one. Absolutely terrified my wife. Like she refuses to watch it again

10 Cloverfield I liked.

I don't, however, get the appeal of Event Horizon.
Zelda in Pet Sematary and eyeless wife in Event Horizon were two scenes I have long avoided in horror.

It has nostalgia for me. I went with a group and one was crying in the theater because she was so scared and another had nightmares for a couple days. That said, I don't think it holds up and isn't a great movie.

I'm positive I've seen this but I can't recall anything about it. Need to rewatch it obviously.

It's really really good. The only downside is that it's a two and a half hour found footage movie. I never felt like it wore out it's welcome, but some people can't do found footage for that long a sitting.

It's made by the same people who made my #4 movie, The Medium. So if you liked The Wailing, check that one out too.

Based on the trailer I'm no longer sure I know what "found footage" means.

Yeah Event Horizon is an uneven horror movie for me. Some great sci-fi terror but it fizzled for me in the last act. Sam Neil is always great though and he gives a dn creepy performance here.

I agree with you on some of it, but it works on me when done well and the bolded is basically the point of the subgenre, no? It either works for you or not, and I find myself getting sucked into found footage movies more than most horror movies. Some I think have great plots and ideas, and some the lack of plot is again the idea. Group of people go into abandoned insane asylum, scares happen. The ones of this type that work on me the most also are tied to things that naturally freak me out - like the above referenced asylum concept.

It also seems to be the subgenre the wife and I seem to agree on the most so we have fun watching these. I seem to think of way more I love that I have seen than ones that I think were bad. I can't say that about many other horror subgenres, especially stuff like slashers.

So I just recently watched this and it just did not do it for me. I enjoyed Train to Busan far more in my recent foreign Asian horror viewing.

This movie just really fell flat for me once it got into the meat and potatoes of the plot.

I see it's on Paramount in 4k, so I might grab my headphones and see if this one can still freak me out. Might as well watch something on it before the sub expires.

My memory is for me it's closer to a Pet Sematary in that there are some great scenes that still scare me, but overall I don't like the movie and find it not great on rewatches. They were ones I was thinking about for my 40-100 range because of those scenes.

I need to lay off the weed. I totally have seen this recently and the f/X do not hold up here. Should get a point off for the opening music too..

I guess this goes to my comments to Lambskin, overall I'll get sucked into a found footage movie. Ones like this have scares but also have too many moments where I am laughing at or cringing at the acting or f/X.

My # 2 movie. Sad to see it this low. There was talk in the thread about rewatching horror recently, and this might be my most rewatched horror movie. The atmosphere this movie gives off with the lighting, camerawork and especially the music is like no other. It's like a dark, twisted, modern fairy tale.

Goblin, who did the music for the movie has been touring, playing the soundtrack live while the movie shows. I saw this a couple years ago live and it was an amazing experience. Highly recommend if they are still doing this.

Unless I'm watching a whodunit or a slasher where you're trying to figure out who the killer is, I usually just try to sit back and enjoy a movie and not try to analyze the storyline too much. I'll admit to not knowing what was going on until maybe a split second before Bruce did. Total mind blower. Unfortunately, M. Knight movies all became about the twist but here it wasn't known yet that it was his thing. Great movie.

Just curious Scoresman, but I was wondering if there will be a way to see everyone's top 75? Perhaps as tabs on your Top 200 Spreadsheet? Love to find hidden gems that didn't make the list in some way from other's lists.

For sure, but it didn't need to. It was pretty good in it's own right. The original will always be too unique to replicate.

Yes to all and once it's done I'd encourage everyone to post theirs and talk about the movies that didn't make it in.

We're also going to allow people to revise lists based on movies they forgot or discovered, and come up with a final top 200.

Also will have the Dan Lambskin approved "Top 200 Horror that doesn't cross any other genre boundaries" list.

Just curious Scoresman, but I was wondering if there will be a way to see everyone's top 75? Perhaps as tabs on your Top 200 Spreadsheet? Love to find hidden gems that didn't make the list in some way from other's lists.

Yes to all and once it's done I'd encourage everyone to post theirs and talk about the movies that didn't make it in.
