I'll might watch it again someday but it is definitely a tough watch. And agreed on the American remake. Horrible.I’ve said it before in the other thread and I’ll say it again here: I’ve only watched this movie once and I’ll never watch it again. It’s good, but very disturbing.#84 - Martyrs (French version)
A young woman's quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tortured her as a child leads her and her best friend, also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.

Also, the American remake is pure garbage. I fast-forwarded through at least half of it. Swill.
This is one of those movies that I was almost afraid to watch. As Scoresman said, you can't help but feel the utter horror of what's happening and just want it to end. Too often, I analyze movies with a full awareness that they are actors. Like when a dog dies in a movie, my wife gets really affected by it but I know a dog didn't actually die. It doesn't bother me. I will listen for the sound effects, pay attention to the lighting, judge how well the actors are doing. It's actually a flaw in me since it prevents me from enjoying movies as deeply as other people can. That's why a movie has never made me cry. But it's a rare movie that gets me so absorbed in what's happening that I can forget all that and just experience it. This is one of those movies. I'm not sure if a rewatch will do the same for me though. I don't think the experience will be the same.
