I actually prefer this to the original. It just ages a lot better and is still a really fun zombie movie.
In this version I prefer the short that was on the DVD of what the gun store guy went through. I would have liked the movie better if it was a side-quel of the original from the gunshop guy’s perspective.
I'll search this out, thanks.

If we're using Wikipedia as the determining factor, then there's this -

"Young Frankenstein is a 1974 American comedy horror film directed by Mel Brooks"

Young Frankenstein on Wikipedia
Sure, and if you look on imdb Young Frankenstein is described using basically the same terms as Scary Movie.

I'm less interested in what another list has to say, I'd rather the people who listed them thought they were horror. So I have specific questions. First would be....

If Young Frankenstein is a horror, Scary Movie as well? Why or why not?

Maybe I need to revist that one as well.
Yes, but Young Frankenstein is better
Gotcha. So Scary Movie is a horror movie, but it's not on the list because it's not good while Young Frank is. So does this apply to all spoof/parody movies? For example, is High Anxiety a suspense/thriller because it spoofs Hitchcock movies?
I say so, and it actually works better on that level than YF does as a horror. Of course, both are also hilarious

It's an interesting conversation. The original has a deeper story with serious sociological themes but this one has significantly better effects. Not to mention the whole plodding zombies vs sprinting zombies debate.

Also, I thought the characters in the original were much better. To be fair, it's been a while since I've seen either, but the characters in the remake felt a little cartoonish, especially the rich dooshy couple. The original felt more real, as if this is actually how a zombie apocalypse would really play out.

I don't think I included a single sequel on my list, except that I included several of the Romero "Dead" movies. I'm sure I'm not the only one - each of those feels like a standalone film in its own little genre, not a series of sequels. And I darn near included the reboot too. It's amazing how good this franchise is, top to bottom.

This came out around the same time as another, better known ghost story that caused this one to get overlooked. While not quite as memorable as the other one, Stir of Echoes is a high quality ghost mystery in its own right. The Boston neighborhood, the amateur occultist and the creepy kid help Kevin Bacon tell a compelling tale that is both fresh and familiar.

Been awhile since I seen this one but i remember liking it quite a bit. Kinda like a modern TCM
Yes!!! Captain Spalding, Doctor Death….The Great Murder Ride at Captain Spaldings Gas Station/gift shop/

The movie was insane and the characters were tremendous and evil.

One of my favorite grimy lunatic, sadistic family horror films.

Obviously it was heavily influenced by TCM.

Zombie has made some excellent “white trash” horror flicks and also some real stinkers.

This is my favorite from him.

As far as Halloween in 2007 I loved it. I thought the new take on his back story was refreshing and actually highly terrifying. The scene where he has his very first kill on that bully was incredibly disturbing. I thought Malcom McDowel did a fantastic job as Doctor Loomis in this 2007 reimagined version.

I felt Zombies Michael Meyers was brutal. He was fast, strong and did not **** around. I really enjoyed the teen victims and they did a great job making you care. The music was spot on authentic.

To me this was probably one of the strongest reboots made.

I feel like as crazy as it is it’s still possible, those are the ones that scare me. There’s another I’d almost not rule horror but based on what’s in here I’m sure it qualifies

It seems like I had go-tos like this for when I saw people renting certain movies. I'd go with Stir of Echoes and The Others instead of more popular ones. Behind the Mask is one I'd pull out if I saw people getting similar flicks, etc.. Man, I miss that job. (which is probably why I am always on here yammering about movies).

It's okay. I like classic movies and this still isn't one of my favorites.

Found my first real mistake of this thing, which I'm surprised it took this long for one to turn up.

The biggest challenge in organizing all this has been dealing with remakes and figuring out what version of each film everyone listed. Apparently, there was a time in Hollywood where remaking Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde every 10 years was a thing for some reason. Kind of like with Halloween today. Anyway, I was checking today's list of movies and sure enough it came up at #135. As I was looking for the trailer I realized there were so many remakes so I checked and sure enough, even though I lumped them all together, turns out one of you picked the 1920 version, one the 1931 version and one the 1941 version. As such, none should have made the top 200. Fortunately, this doesn't change things too drastically.

What this changes:

- Every movie below this spot actually moves up one rank, so the last movie I posted, Stir of Echoes, is now actually #136.
- The Black Phone now enters the top 200 moving from 201 to 200! Congrats! This movie was highlighted and discussed during the honorable mentions.

not horror
Dual is a brilliant film and gave a first look at what was to come from the great Steven Spielberg. I just recently watched this on BD and it still holds up so well. The tension was fantastic. Dennis Weaver was awesome.

I just watched this. It’s nice to see Walken before he leaned into his own weirdness, and it’s always striking to see how much Matin Sheen and Emilio Estevez look alike. The movie was decent, but there wasn’t any hint of horror. Maybe the book was horror, I haven’t read it… but the movie wasn’t.
The horror of knowing peoples fates, the worlds fate or should I say potential fates.....it was quite creepy with the serial killer storyline in the first act and then Stillson's intentions who we find out is a narcissistic sociopathic maniac.

I thought thru the Terminator and T2 and yeah I can go along that they qualify as SCi-Fi horror. I mean we have a maniac android hell bent on killing a woman (Sara Conners) and then a 13 year old boy (John Connors) and it will stop at nothing to do so murdering others who stand it's way. Yes that is horror in my book.

Young Frakenstein....yeah that is a pure spoof on horror in every way. There is not one scary thing about that movie at all. And dudes....I love that movie...like top 25 comedy for me of all time.

"What lump"?

Where as Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein...yeah there are certainly elements of horror even though we know it's primarily comedy.

Look it's all debatable.......but @Scoresman is doing a fantasti cjob on this thread and the conversation has been great. I am happy to have a short list of movies I have never seen already.....and I am sure it will grow even more.

Fede Álvarez who directed Evil Dead (2013) tweeted : "While you’re at it, try to find the one shoot in the film where you realize Drag me to Hell and my Evil Dead are part of the same Universe. It’s there, trust me."

Need a rewatch meow
This one was a crazy ride from start to finish. I knew it was by the director of the original Evil Dead movies but seemed so much more refined (for lack of a better word) than those. For me, this was a FUN horror watch that had it all.

The google sheet will show these corrections when I update it.
You're fired!
