Yeah….some really whacked choices here.

You guys know you’re in the minority with these opinions right? For most of these if you go look at other horror boards, the vast majority consider all of these horror.
Some are debatable but the consensus on Black Swan is that it qualifies, even if I don't necessarily agree. Its a psychological thriller to me.

Stuff like Black Swan and Se7en I can see. If you are also talking about Young Frankenstein and T2 being in the bolded, I would like to see evidence of that, and that would be surprising to me.

At the end of the day, I am just glad for this exercise so I was forced to think more about what I consider horror. I like having something to debate or think about when watching movies.

Also, we are all coming at this from different POVs too. I get the impression we have some hardcore horror fans mixed in with some general movie fans that like a good scare now and then. In my experience, the hardcore fans get more chippy when "real horror" isn't represented. I think of it similar to heavy metal fans. Both genres that get crapped on and brushed aside as a whole. It rarely gets credit for taking talent, people who like it are looked down on as weird freaks, I could go on. Where I am going with this is I think these are the people who love watching all the good and bad of the genre, the crappy Nightmare and Friday sequels, etc. So when it's time to shine a spotlight on the genre, things can get heated if it's not done up to their high standards. Nothing personal. I'm guessing the same happens with fanatics of anything. Hell, I've heard similar bicker fests over what is "real country" or what is funny in TV and movies.

Long story short - Young Frankenstein and T2 in this countdown is like Jethro Tull winning a metal Grammy over Metallica. :p

If we're using Wikipedia as the determining factor, then there's this -

"Young Frankenstein is a 1974 American comedy horror film directed by Mel Brooks"

Young Frankenstein on Wikipedia
Sure, and if you look on imdb Young Frankenstein is described using basically the same terms as Scary Movie.

I'm less interested in what another list has to say, I'd rather the people who listed them thought they were horror. So I have specific questions. First would be....

If Young Frankenstein is a horror, Scary Movie as well? Why or why not?

Maybe I need to revist that one as well.

Yes, but Young Frankenstein is better

Gotcha. So Scary Movie is a horror movie, but it's not on the list because it's not good while Young Frank is. So does this apply to all spoof/parody movies? For example, is High Anxiety a suspense/thriller because it spoofs Hitchcock movies?

#144 - Drag Me To Hell

After denying a woman the extension she needs to keep her home, loan officer Christine Brown sees her once-promising life take a startling turn for the worse. Yes!!! Captain Spalding, Doctor Death….The Great Murder Ride at Captain Spaldings Gas Station/gift shop/

The movie was insane and the characters were tremendous and evil.

One of my favorite grimy lunatic, sadistic family horror films.

Obviously it was heavily influenced by TCM.

Zombie has made some excellent “white trash” horror flicks and also some real stinkers.

This is my favorite from him.

As far as Halloween in 2007 I loved it. I thought the new take on his back story was refreshing and actually highly terrifying. The scene where he has his very first kill on that bully was incredibly disturbing. I thought Malcom McDowel did a fantastic job as Doctor Loomis in this 2007 reimagined version.

I felt Zombies Michael Meyers was brutal. He was fast, strong and did not **** around. I really enjoyed the teen victims and they did a great job making you care. The music was spot on authentic.

To me this was probably one of the strongest reboots made.

So Interview with the Vampire and Near Dark.

These two were some of my favorite Vampire movies in the genre.

Interview is just an exercise in first class acting and storytelling. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt? And a terrific debut for one Kirsten Dundst. The movie never lets up and Lestad and Louies relationship has that borderline homosexual angle but never really goes or commits to it. Yet that tension is always present.

It really is a great movie. I also enjoyed the complete 180 Queen of the Damned took. Rock Star Lestad!!

Near Dark is a cult classic….I think I already touched on that one. If you have not seen it…..you should.

Oh this was so hard to leave off my top 75. I am a bonafide Carpenter fan boi. The soundtrack is classic Carpenter and Alan Howarth. The evilness of this Plymouth Fury is incredibly believable. A really great watch.

One of my favorite movies. I love cars and 50's music.

There's been rumors of a Blumhouse re-make. I hope they don't.

It seems Blumhouse is now a factory where as when they first came on the scene they were a beacon for Horror Quality.

I agree with you….hope they leave this alone.

In this version I prefer the short that was on the DVD of what the gun store guy went through. I would have liked the movie better if it was a side-quel of the original from the gunshop guy’s perspective.

I considered listing this, because the first 10 minutes or so are brilliant. But (a) I like the original much better than the remake overall, and (b) I tried to avoid listing two versions of the same movie.

The opening 15 minutes alone was worth the price of admission.

A tremendous reboot that holds up extremely well.

I watched this one this afternoon. Nice movie. It's great visually, and it has that "Grimms' fairy tales" feel that makes for a cool horror film. Not as scary as Terminator 2, but it had its moments.
